Igris the dragon sword!?

Chapter 58: Igris the dragon sword!?

"Hey, Igris, What time are you opening? I've been waiting out here all morning. What's the hold-up?" One of the customers who was waiting outside asked as they saw Igris come outside, but as they looked to his hip to see the sword attached to his hip, the crowd suddenly went silent.

"Sorry guys, I should have let you all know in advance, but we won't be serving food until later in the afternoon. I have to go take this one to school. But as soon as I get back, I will cook you all a feast. You can still get some drinks, though, when Aria decides to open." Igris let them know as they all watched on with interest as Kalon came out holding his universe bag close to his chest.

"I see. That's fine. I will wait for you to return then." The man who asked replied with a stutter as he wasn't used to seeing swords.

Frisson was home to the King and one of the most famous schools in the country, so it was only natural that they had many guards to keep everyone safe. But outside of soldiers and guards, only a few people were allowed to carry swords. The ones who were allowed to had all done great things or brought glory to the kingdom. And Igris happened to be one of them.

Although his life as a chef was more public than his past as a soldier, so those who saw him with a sword didn't know what to think.

"Thank you for being understanding. Everyone's first drink will be on the house for today." Igris announced to receive a round of applause.

'Does alcohol really taste that good?' Kalon asked himself while looking at the happy faces of the customers. He had never been curious about it before since he had seen the effects it had on people. But he now wanted to know what it tasted like after seeing that it could inspire such a reaction from people.

"Okay, Are you ready now?" Igris turned and asked as Kalon started to wonder about things he had no right wondering about. He was still a child, after all. Kalon flinched slightly after coming back to his senses.

"Y-yeah, let's go." He stuttered briefly before smiling with excitement. After Roah had told him the marvellous stories of her time at Frisson Academy, he couldn't wait to experience a similar life. It seemed like fun, and she said that she made many friends there, so he thought that he would try to make friends as she had done.

Igris sighed and looked up at the clouds above his head before walking. Kalon followed behind him for what seemed like an eternity as all eyes locked onto Igris as he walked through the streets. It appeared that carrying a sword was intimidating for regular people, but no one stopped them before they ended up standing in front of black iron gates that surrounded the largest building that Kalon had ever seen.

"We're here," Igris announced as he walked through one of the gates to see a crowd filled with hundreds of people gathering around three small tables in the centre of the yard.

Until now, the palace in the Sylton empire was the most magnificent thing that Kalon had seen up close, but now that he was standing before the main building of Frisson Academy, he was speechless. He looked around, trying his best to look at the academy and try to grasp the exact size of it, but the sea of people walking around drowned out his vision.

"Stay close. I don't want you getting stomped on by all of these mindless idiots." Igris sighed as he continued to walk past the table that was in the centre of the yard and towards an old wooden door that looked to be the entrance to the building.

"Okay", Kalon shouted out, making sure that he was heard over the murmuring of the crowd around him. He didn't know where they were going, but he had a faint feeling that Igris knew something that everyone else didn't.

As they walked closer to the door, it seemed as though the people surrounding them became silent, almost as if they had faded into the distance.

Kalon looked up at the door with confusion as he felt a feeling of warmth radiate from it. It was just like the feeling he would get when he circulated his Qi which only led to more confusion. But as Igris reached out his hand towards the door, the scenery around them seemed to fade as they were met with another courtyard that seemed much larger than the last one, but there were a lot fewer people lining up.

"What just-?" Kalon began to ask as it seemed like reality had just transformed itself right before his eyes. He couldn't even begin to grasp what had just happened, but it was lucky that Igris was nearby to explain.

"That was just an illusion put up by the principal to keep out people who can't sense Qi since the minimum requirement for enrolling here is to be a cultivator. It's pretty stupid that regular people think that they can come here and cultivate when they have yet to understand the foundations." Igris explained and then added what he thought about the people outside who had fallen victim to the illusion.

"An illusion? Why would they want an illusion to block the entrance? Wouldn't that turn people away?" Kalon asked. He didn't see much of a reason for them to turn people away if they were looking for students, so it seemed strange to him.

"Well, if you can't see through a simple illusion, then you have no business being a student here. Even you felt the flow of qi that came from the door, didn't you?" Igris asked to make sure that he could.

"Of course. But I didn't know it was an illusion." Kalon responded with a questioning look even though he was making a statement.

"Then that is good enough. If you had walked towards the door even in the slightest, then you would have found out the truth sooner or later. It's only natural because cultivators are innately attracted to Qi." Igris smiled as he explained to Kalon, but a voice called out from the distance as someone seemingly recognized him as soon as he did.

"Igris the dragon sword!?" The voice sounded joyful and full of glee, like whoever it belonged to was excited to see him. Igris turned around to look at where the voice had come from and then sighed upon realization.
