Thank god!

Chapter 59: Thank god.

'Dragon sword? What's a dragon sword?' Kalon thought he had no idea what he was talking about as he heard the man shout with joy, but it seemed like Igris was also well known as a warrior.

"Sam. What are you doing here?" Igris sighed before asking the middle-aged man that was standing in the new courtyard and waving his hands for Igris to see him even though there weren't many people there.

The man who had called out to Igris also had a sword by his hip, but he held a wooden cane in his hands and used it to help himself stand. He had a muscular build, and short brown hair with rigid facial features much like you would expect from someone who had been fighting battles every day of his life.

Although Kalon was new to the kingdom of Ysaven and didn't know anyone, he could still tell that the man Igris had called Sam was a soldier or at least one in the past by his presence alone. It was much like the soldiers back at the barracks in Sylton, but he was a human instead of a nine-foot-tall monster with horns.

"Well, you know, It's time for my boy to head to school. He turned thirteen last week, and he's been bugging me to let him try the entrance exam. My wife was a little hesitant, but you know me. A little bit of smooth-talking brought her around." Sam bragged with a smile before pointing over to a boy who looked around Kalon's age, who had short blond hair and was looking at a doorway on the front of the large building.

"Is that so? You didn't promise you would take her to one of his majesty's dances, did you?" Igris asked with a slight smile on his face.

Given his initial reaction to seeing Sam, it seemed that Igris was a little annoyed, but from hearing a little bit of their conversation, Kalon could tell that they didn't hate each other, and it was more likely that they just had a few disagreements that made Igris not look forwards to seeing him.

"Uh, no. Why would you think something like that?" Sam nervously scratched the back of his head as he replied. He knew that he was seen through and didn't know what to do but deny it.

"I just remembered what happened the last time that you promised to take your wife there. Didn't a lot of the nobles hit on her?" Igris smiled as he reminded Sam of the past. And as he did, a furious look spread across his face.

"I had almost forgotten about that. Why did you have to go and remind me? Now I will have to smash some heads together. But enough of that. Who is this? I didn't know that you were hiding a kid all along. Does Aria know?" Sam asked confusedly as he assumed that Kalon was Igris's illegitimate child.

"What? Do you think he's my kid? Of course not. Roah Magnus brought him to me and asked if I could bring him to take the exam. I just didn't expect that I would bump into anyone I know here." Igris said with another sigh, but this time it seemed more like something was on his mind.

"Is that so? Well, I'm not the only one here who you know. Take a look over there." Sam said and then nodded his head in the opposite direction to indicate where to look.

Igris looked over in the direction that Sam had told him to see a man with long dark hair looking at the same doorway that Sam's son was looking at with a young boy who also had dark hair standing next to him.

"When are they going to come out! It's boring out here. There's nothing for me to do!" the brown-haired boy complained to his father with frustration in his voice.

"I don't know, but they better hurry up if they know what's good for them, or I will let the principal know that they made me wait here like a peasant." The child's father roared, telling everyone nearby that he was better than them, before locking eyes with both Igris and Sam. The man then shrugged his shoulders and looked away.

"That bastard's here? I know he likes the attention when he walks amongst the citizens. But I never thought that he would come to a place like this and complain. Doesn't he know that we come from different worlds? Even the weakest of cultivators could crush him with one hand." Igris sighed as he looked back at Sam.

"Well yeah, that was the case before. But apparently, his youngest son is now the pride of the Dawson family. He was the only person in his family who was able to gather Qi, so their family is now headed by their child. But I heard that the kid is just as awful as his father." Sam said with concern as he, too, looked back at Igris.

"Well, If he is going to be a student here, then you had better make sure your son stays out of their way. Ever since he sold his daughter to the royal family, they have been doing whatever they pleased without consequence." Igris said and then turned back to Kalon.

"You be careful too. I don't want Roah coming back and causing more trouble if you end up getting hurt." Igris said and then ruffled Kalon's hair expecting that he would get a reaction. But Kalon's mind was elsewhere.

Kalon felt a familiar feeling in his body and a shiver ran down his spine as two people wearing dark robes stepped into the courtyard after getting through the illusion. One appeared to be the size of an adult, and the other seemed to be the same height as Kalon.

They both gave off the feeling of the cloaked people he had seen in the city the day before, and it made him worry that they knew he could see them. He still couldn't explain what had happened, but his suspicion soon disappeared as the smaller of the two cloaked figures dropped their hood to reveal short shoulder-length hair that was as dark as the night sky but had lighter shades of blue mixed within.

'Thank god! I thought that they had come back to kill me because they thought that I would tell someone. But even if I did tell someone, they would think I'm crazy.' Kalon thought as he looked at the boy wearing the robe who was glancing around the yard like a curious cat.
