Introductions are My least Favorite Thing

Apryl felt her dread grow as each person introduced themselves- name, major, year in college, where they're from, and one interesting thing about them. She was thankful at least that the professor had decided to go in row order starting from the furthest point from where Apryl seated. If he had begun with last names, she would have to introduce herself sooner than she wanted to do.

She didn't like the idea of having to stand up in front of class and speak already, she hadn't been prepared for this part in the slightest. All these new people that she didn't know and probably wouldn't ever really get to know would be staring at her while she spoke. Werewolves never had it this hard when it came to introducing themselves, why couldn't humans make it simple as well or give the option to pass on the introduction?

"Apryl?" The professor finally called her name after another five minutes. She took a deep breath to try and steady her nerves as she stood up from her seat carefully to make sure that she didn't accidentally knock anything over in her nervous state.

"Hello my name is Apryl Black, this is actually my first semester here at this college, I just recently moved here with my family and still trying to get used to everything. My major is currently business, but I may end up changing it in the future depending on where my interests take me. I guess something interesting would be that starting in fall, two of my other siblings will be joining me here at this college."

Sitting back down in her seat, Apryl was certain that her face must've been bright red due to how nervous she was at the way her heart was pounding in her chest. She didn't think that she could handle having to do this for each class if it was going to be like this. Even though everyone in the classroom was polite and clapped for her like they did everyone else, it didn't make her feel any better.

The rest of the class went by rather smoothly. He handed everyone a copy of the syllabus with important areas highlighted or marked that he wanted them to pay attention to. Because it was the first class of the week, he thankfully didn't assign any homework aside from requesting that everyone have read the first chapter for discussion by Thursday so that they could discuss it in class.

History on the other end ended up being the worse of the two classes. The introduction wasn't the worst part, but rather that the professor, Dr. Humphrey already assigned homework he wanted them to have done by the next class period. He said that it was because they had a lot that they needed to cover in eight weeks and there wasn't much time for them to lose in getting started on assignments.

He was requesting that they write a brief essay on something that they found interesting in the first two chapters of the textbook. On top of that, they had to explain how it has or not changed between the past and present. The textbook was much larger than the one she had for composition and it meant a lot of reading she would have to get done in two days. He also made a big deal out of the fact that he didn't accept late work unless there was a genuinely good reason as to why a student couldn't turn it on time. Even then, he would accept it with a ten point penalty. At least she wasn't the only one in that class who seemed dismayed over how quickly everything was already moving.

By the time that class had been let out, she was already ready to call it quits because everything felt like it was going to be overly hard and impossible to do in the time frame that her professors were expecting her and her fellow classmates to accomplish it in. Maybe her mother had been right in saying that she might've been better off waiting until the fall to start classes when she would be able to do it over a whole semester rather than a half one.

Apryl had already committed to this though so she knew that she was going to have to give it her best shot even if she did feel like she might end up falling her classes.

The first one that she texted once she was done with her classes was her mother to let her know how they went and how she was feeling afterwards. She tried to word it in a way to her mom that didn't make it sound as impossible and stressful as she was feeling at that moment in time.

She messaged Keith after that to tell him that she hated introductions and that she wished he would've warned her that she would have to worry about something like that on the first day of classes. She might've seriously considered skipping the first day if she knew something like that was waiting for her.

Keith apologized of course, though she had a feeling he was probably laughing at her reaction even though she couldn't see his face. It was easy to a laugh when you were the person who wasn't dealing with the uncomfortable position.

Now that class was over though she had to figure out what to do next. She didn't think that going home right after classes would be a good idea since she hadn't eaten lunch and knew that most likely she would end up getting distracted rather than working on her assignments, but she also didn't want to go and hang around Keith as she was certain the same thing would happen if she started talking to him, plus she was certain that he was probably busy with work and didn't need a distraction either.

Leaving the building that her history class was in she tried to pull up the campus map on her phone. She wondered if it would be possible for her to find the library from where she was at, it would most likely be her best bet for an area to study since Keith had told her it was a generally quiet place set up for students go when they needed to study.

The map didn't really help her much in terms of directions, but it let her know that if she basically kept walking south of where she was standing she would eventually find it. It appeared to be located a few minutes away from where he class building was. At least with all of the walking that she was doing, she didn't have to worry about getting out of shape since she suddenly had to drop the typical level of exercise that she normally got as a werewolf.

Maybe once she got her class schedule sorted and her mom was in a better place after having the pups she could consider taking a look at the gym the college had. It might be worth it to help her burn the extra stress energy she was building up after only her first day of classes.
