Conflicted

Apryl had been conflicted at first when was trying to decide whether or not to message Callum and ask about hanging out together and seeing if he would be willing to help with her homework.

Keith had just enough free time around his work to be able to figure out a time next week that they could meet again for lunch and talk about everything else. She figured that it would work since Chester wanted to meet with them tomorrow to show her the place he was talking about that he thought would be of assistance as a temporary shelter for her family.

She had a lot on her mind, but knew that she couldn't put her homework off and that was the reason that had lead her to texting Callum to see if he was still free to meet up. She figured that even though it was only a little afternoon that if she went home she would not end up doing anything else with how distracted she currently was.

Callum was more than happy to meet up with her. He had no problem helping her with her homework, but he also had other questions that he wanted to ask about her. He was curious to know what kind of person had caught Keith's attention. As far as he was aware since the other had started going to college, he never had an interest in another werewolf before.

He picked one of the more secluded parts of the library which he thought Apryl would appreciate as he had taken note of the fact that she seemed to prefer being as far away from other people as possible. He had been a lot like that when he first had come to college as well until he learned that humans really couldn't tell the difference between him and their kind so long as he acted like he knew all the same things they did.

Callum also opted to pick up lunch since he figured the female werewolf had probably not eaten anything since morning and it would be rude he felt to get something without picking up something for her as well. He opted for smoked chicken wings and a sandwich as it was fairly cheap yet filling.

"You didn't have to get me anything." Apryl told him as he handed her lunch to her once she was sitting at the table he reserved for them.

"It's nothing really. I figure that you haven't probably eaten much which isn't good when you're planning on studying. You need a full stomach to be able to focus properly." He told her as he unwrapped his own sandwich so that he could start eating while they talked.

"So what classes have you gotten yourself into this semester?" He asked before taking the first bite. Apryl was a little more hesitant to starting eating as she was faced with more food that she wasn't that familiar with.

"History and English. Keith recommended that since it is my first semester that it would be better to start with lighter classes that wouldn't be hard to follow." Apryl replied as she picked up one of the chicken wings and gave it a tentative sniff. It smelled good which she presumed was a sign that it was perfectly edible.

"History is dry, but not too bad to follow if you have the right professor. Can't say that I care much about English. Too many words that I don't understand and a lot to follow, especially in only eight weeks." Callum replied. He was good at English, he just hated all the work that he had to put into the class when he took it in order to be good at it. He didn't have anyone to help him either so he ended up spending more nights than not up late looking at each word he didn't recognize and copying it down.

"History bothers me more because I don't understand why I have to learn about stuff that doesn't relate to me at all. Also, the past is the past, why do we have to keep digging it up and going over it. That never happens within our groups." Apryl sighed. The food was good, and Callum was right, with her hunger going away it was becoming easier to think about what she actually needed to do. The smaller werewolf laughed at her response.

"Yeah, I can't argue with that. But, we're among their kind now and not ours. That means we have to learn about all this stuff even if we don't like it." He replied.

"I'm curious to learn more about you too though honestly. Like what brought you here and what your goals?" He asked suddenly switching the conversation off of homework and onto the the female werewolf who wasn't expecting that question. She waited until after she had taken her next bite before she spoke.

"Same thing I think that has brought a lot of others around here, the necessity to change in order to survive." She replied honestly. It was the only reason that her family had decided to leave everything they knew behind and work to assimilating within a new species that lived in a way that polar opposite of their own.

"As for what my goals are, I don't know. Surviving I guess. Getting through college and onto the next step. How all that will work out or what it looks like I'm honestly conflicted on right now because there are a lot of things going on." The small werewolf listened intently before brushing his hair out of his face in order to be able to take a drink. Even though he had it tied back, his bangs still had a habit of falling into his face.

"That makes sense. I think a lot of us are conflicted and overwhelmed about what we want to do when we first come here. I know I was. Even Chester who doesn't seem like it was lost." Callum couldn't honestly think of a werewolf who embraced the complete shift that they had to make in order to make everything work. In fact, he knew more than not who couldn't handle it and decided to go back to the life they had come from instead.
