Meeting The Spirit God

But as soon as he placed his foot on the 91st step, his bloodshot eyes couldn't keep up any longer. Blood spurted out from his eyes. Ethan was completely stunned. Because as per the normal logic he followed so far, only the step that corresponds to the multiple of 10 has this kind of ability. So the 91st step should not have this kind of pressure. Then why exactly did he experience such massive pressure while stepping his foot on the 91st step?

He didn't know any answer. But it doesn't mean that he couldn't make a guess. He could come up with two possible explanations.

Firstly, He could see the end of the stairs and he could also see the first floor. He was just ten steps away after all. So starting from the 91st step, each step will have its difficulty increased. So, from hereon, his challenge level will be in a different league. Each step will be difficult than any of the steps he encountered which is multiple of ten.

And the second explanation is very simple. He felt that the Spirit God wanted to make things difficult for any cultivator that came to participate for the inheritance.

No matter what the reason is, he knew that from hereon the difficulty level will be different than any of the difficulty levels he encountered. He now understood the meaning behind that riddle. If it wasn't for the reminder from the System, he would have been dead by now.

After absorbing the Spirit Energy on the 91st step, Ethan finally got up with ease. He no longer found any kind of mental pressure from the 91st step. Without any hesitation, he prepared himself for the 92nd step.

He could tell from his experience that the challenge on the 92nd step will be multiple times higher than the challenge he faced on the 91st step. So he prepared himself mentally for the next challenge. After calming himself down, he raised his foot and placed it on the 92nd step.

But as soon as he placed his foot on the 92nd step, the pressure intensified. And Ethan's endurance was also nearing 0. He is been doing this for two days now. So it is only logical that his endurance would not keep up with the pressure.

Ethan failed to resist the pressure to some extent and he almost lost control over his body. His eyes and nose started to bleed.

He took out some restoration medicines and threw them in his mouth with great difficulty. He then gulped it down without any second thought. He felt some relief and sat down to take in the pressure. After he was done with it, he stood up for the next challenge.

Time passed just like that. Just like that he reached the 99th step. He advanced slowly but effectively. If one looked at Ethan's face, then they would be horrified. His face became bloody. He was not in any consciousness. Only his will to reach the first floor made him walk further. His consciousness was not in his control. The idea of advancing kind of became an instinct.

Only with his sheer willpower, he was able to manage to finally place his foot on the 100th step. His instinct told him that he will encounter massive pressure. His mindset was not on a right track. His instinct took over his brain. So he felt that another massive pressure will hit him. So he stood just like that.

But he didn't know that the final 100th step didn't release any pressure. Since his instinct took over his brain, he didn't realize it for himself. If Ethan's mind was on track, then he might have frowned at first and taken his time to enjoy his success. But since his instinct took over his boy, he stood just like that. Then as per instinct, he sat down on the ground to absorb more pressure.

But after a while, he fell to the ground and lost consciousness. He didn't know when, but he suddenly opened his eyes with a blank face. He looked here and there and was stunned to find himself in a strange place.

He found out that he was somehow on the first floor. He finally managed to reach the first floor. But he doesn't have any memories of how he reached the first floor. He doesn't even know when exactly he lost his consciousness.

But all this was secondary. Because the place he was in made him dumbstruck. Because wherever he sees, all he could find was nothing but golden light. Except for the golden light, he didn't find anything else.

"I never expected that the first person to come here would win my tough test.", When he was wondering, he hears the voice from his back. When he turns back, he finds that the owner of this voice belongs to a young man.

Ethan became alert. But it didn't take long for Ethan to understand who this young man is. This young man's eyes resembled that giant eye that almost killed him near the main entrance to the village. This young man was none other than the Spirit God!

Ethan doesn't show any hostility towards the Spirit God. Because he knew why Spirit God attacked him at the entrance of the village. But what he doesn't understand is why he was still alive and how could he enter the Golden mountain?

"Maybe my test was much easier than I have expected. You are the first person to come here and will be the only person to come.", Spirit God sighed and said.

"The test was not easy. Even I didn't know how I managed to reach the first floor. All I remember is that I have reached the 90th step. What happened later, I don't have any idea.", Ethan honestly replied. He knew that it was pointless to boast in front of the Spirit God by saying that only he is fated to win the Spirit God's inheritance. That might anger the Spirit God.

"Oh? So you have awakened the Willpower already! Not bad. Now I think that you are worthy enough to win my treasures.", Spirit God said with a bit friendlier tone.

Ethan looked at the Spirit God's eyes which contain an entire galaxy within them. He built up enough courage and dared to ask, "Spirit God! I know that it was you who attacked me at the gate. I don't want to ask why you attacked me. After all, you are strong and I am weak. This explanation is more than enough. But what I want to know is why didn't you kill me? After all, we cultivators are not allowed to enter the village, right?"

"I indeed wanted to kill you. After all, all the cultivators who invaded that village had to die. This was my rule.", Spirit God sighed at this point and said, "But someone saved you from dying."

"Someone saved me?", Ethan was stunned with this answer.
