THE DREAM OF DARKNESS

"What were you thinking, Abigail? You seemed distressed." Mady asked in a suffocated whisper. Her forehead, tied a crease, looking at Abigail with haunted eyes.

The woman moved her body sideways. Placing both of her palms on her thighs. "Nothing," She answered in a low tone.

Adrianne glanced over to the egg's side. The hard thing was now stable in place, laying down comfortably on top of her soft pillow. Her eyes staring with focus, her curiosity bubbled up within. She wonders, when will this golden egg hatch?

It has been more than a week already since they took the examination. With her going to Level A, the number of people hating her doubled up. She knows that those people were just waiting for her to make a mistake.

She has to take extra classes after her main subject. If she only knows that there will be another set of classes for those who got Level A and B, then she should have intently failed the test at Level II!

Now, instead of having free time to polish her plans, she needs to go to a freaking 2-hour class. Of course, that wouldn't be a class without some boring teacher that would teach them random things.

Tomorrow was supposed to be the event that they said in the announcement. It got Adrianne thinking, what's special with her birth date? Does it have to do something with the curse she had inflicted?

"Abigail, it's already five in the afternoon. Just one more hour and our dinner will be served!" Mady jumped out of joy, announcing the said words.

Aella, on the other side, clapped her hands out of joy. Food, that was what they're looking for each day. The food being served in the place was undeniably good. Catering variety of dishes, that kids like them would no wonder, like.

"Hmm, wake me up when the food arrives. I want to take a nap." Adrianne responded to Mady.

Placing her hand towards her mouth, a breath of air went out from Adrianne. Her eyes started to get watery as she found herself getting succumb to sleepiness. Laying down on her bed, Adrianne placed the egg carefully on her side.

'Where am I?' That was the first thing that came into Adrianne's mind as she looked around, in order to see just complete darkness. The coldness that she felt made her body shivered. Dark, Cold, and lonely, that's what she's currently feeling right now. The loneliness she had always felt since in the past.

"Hello?"

"Hello? Is somebody there?!"

Adrianne shouted, hoping for something to pop out. But despite her efforts, she was stuck in the same place. All she can hear was the unendless voice echoing in the darkness, yearning for hope.

The feeling was bearable yet suffocating. Adrianne glanced over the side, anticipating a solution, a way to leave this darkness. But to her disappointment, she found nothing. All she found was the cold air, hugging her body.

A blinding light went up, depriving Adrianne's vision. Her hands went up in the air, placing it on top of her eyes as the light was too much to take in. When the light became bearable, Adrianne slowly lowered her hand, seeing a ball of light dancing in the air.

Adrianne was curious by the sudden light. She didn't notice that her two feet were slowly walking to nowhere. She followed the light, only to see that she was not in a place full of darkness anymore.

"Who are you?" Adrianne shouted when she saw someone walking from afar.

The place was old and rusty. Adrianne with her vision can see spiders on the side walking on their own made webs. Her body shivered, the coldness of the place was still there. She looked over her clothes when Adrianne noticed that it changed. The clothes that were on her body, was not the one she's wearing when she went to take a nap, earlier.

A Black V-neck dress was hugging the upper part of her body, as the rest of it was flowing freely, down her feet. Golden beads were put on top until the middle, creating a gradient effect going to the bottom. A slit lined on the left side is partly revealing Adrianne's legs.

"Hey!" Adrianne called again, wanting to get the man's attention. But to no avail, the man just walks straightly, not even bothering to look in her direction.

"Argh!" Adrianne groaned in frustration, gathering up the bottom part of her dress. She didn't even know where did she get all these clothes.

Adrianne followed the man's steps. She was already half running even if it was hard for her to do so, as the ground was quite rocky. The man arrived at an abandoned mansion that was made out of old-looking wood, half of it was already starting to break due to its oldness.

She followed the man as he walks in, straight ahead. But Adrianne's forehead met halfway. A black crescent of a moon was tattooed on the man's neck. It looks like the tattoo was just recently embedded in its skin.

Going up the second floor, Adrianne noticed a painting hanging on the corner. It was the same painting she painted way back. It was hanging on the side, disoriented. Why was that in here? She asked as she looked at the painting in disbelief.

"AHHHHH!!!"

Adrianne's heart skipped a beat when she heard a familiar voice shouting in pain. Her feet start to take fast steps, running just to get to the 2nd floor quickly.

Her brows rose in a surprised arc. With her lips pinched together in a hard line, she saw herself. It was her voice who shouted, coming from a woman that looks exactly like her. Overwhelmed, she stood frozen in place.

The woman was on the floor, bent knees. But what intrigued Adrianne was when the girl started begging for mercy. Especially as the unknown man called the woman, Abigail.
