SAVING MADY

Adrianne and the others who survived the veins didn't have the choice but to stop what they were doing. They got puzzled as to the kids who were caught up with vines quickly disappeared into the darkness.

"Aella, I'll find Mady. Go with Joseph and run as fast as you can!" Adrianne uttered, her eyes roaming all over the place. Her feet started to wander around, looking for Mady's traces.

Aella disapprovingly shook her head. Stomping her feet, "I don't want to! I won't leave you, Abigail!" The girl said. Her cheeks were wet with overflowing tears, dripping down.

Aella doesn't care about her own safety anymore after hearing the pain lingering on her friend's scream. The only thing that was running in her mind, was her friend, Mady's well-being.

"AAAAHHH!!" A loud scream echoed through the whole forest.

A glimpse of hope rose in Adrianne's heart. It was clear for her. That voice… That voice was surely from Mady.

"Mady? Mady, where are you?!" Aella shouted, anticipating that someone would answer.

Adrianne took a deep breath. With her eyes half-closed, her mind and body coordinated together. She was looking for Mady's body energy using her senses. "Isthevia… Isthevia…" She whispered in the air. An incantation from the old times that she had used to find someone or something missing.

A movement, not so far away from their direction, caught her attention. Running in full speed, she saw Mady's body floating midair. Two sets of veins were swirling around the girl's feet, making her float on air. The girl was saying her cries in despair. Thinking that she probably won't be saved from the arms of the vampires running for them.

Reacting to the situation hurriedly, Adrianne let a fire came out of her hand. It was a small ball of flame that can burn the vines completely, without affecting Mady, whose eyes were now glimmering with hope.

"Abigail! Aella! Thank you for coming back!" Mady bawled up. She couldn't contain the happening surrounding her heart. It made her seriously happy. Thinking that her two closest friends came back just to save her.

Adrianne's eyebrows formed a straight line. "What the heck are you doing here, Aella? Didn't I tell you to follow Joseph? What were you thinking?" Her lips were pursed by a suppressed fury after saying those words.

"I-I'm sorry, Abigail," Aella's voice trembled in fear. She couldn't look straightly at Abigail's blazing eyes. The girl's dark eyes that were looking at her were already enough to make her knees melt down.

Leaving Adrianne with no choice, she took a deep breath, calming herself down. This idiot person, she was trying to save them, but they're making it harder for her.

Can't they just follow her orders and not ask too much? After all, they know that she's the only one capable of thinking, right now. But thinking of it, what was she expecting? That these lowly vampires who came from the modern world will think rationally? That's funny, lmao.

Adrianne and Aella helped Mady to stand up. With her sore thighs, Mady needs to take extra precautions as she takes a step. Luckily, Aella was there to support her while Abigail checked if the pathway they're passing by was safe.

But the three children had not yet gone far when something suddenly exploded in front of them. The loud sound and the strong force from the explosion made the three of them helpless. They couldn't help but fell to the ground. With the powerful force Adrianne's body, as well as the other kids, rolled over several times.

A few pieces of rock and dirt sank into their skin. Adrianne can feel that some of her bones got broken due to the explosion. She tasted a metallic flavor on her lips. That's the only time she noticed that there was blood flowing out from her mouth.

Adrianne saw Mady and Aella from a distance. The two kids together with her were just like her, helplessly lying down on the cold ground. She tried to stand up but with her trembling and tired body, her efforts were put to waste.

Adrianne couldn't do anything but move forward using her hands and knees. Forcefully dragging her own body close to where the two girls were.

A pair of black leather shoes suddenly filled her sight. A man was standing in front of her, blocking her way to prevent her from going far away. The man grabbed her clothes from behind, lifting her small body, up.

Adrianne saw the smile lingering on the face of an old man. Yet, the Vampire's eyes twinkled with delight as he saw blood dripping down on the kid's face.
