7. THE RESCUE?

Felicity woke up. She was on her bed while Roger lay on the couch. She rubbed her eyes and looked around. Moving her hand, she felt something under her covers. She pulled it out to reveal her mother's book. Holding it to her chest, she decided to get out of her covers yet something was stirring within her trying to tell her something.

She sat on her bed and thought about it a while longer. The pent up emotions from the previous day flowed into her heart at once making her wince. The memories of the past night made her jump. She had seen the man who had rescued her in her dreams. He was the same man who sat by the shore on the rocks. She had confirmed that Roger could see him to but when she asked his name, she couldn't hear it.

Felicity had collapsed right after that. She was on her bed and Roger on the sofa. Both of them had been covered. It was like someone had been watching out for them. She could not help but smile at the thought. At least someone cared of she slept on the floor or not. And now that she thought of it, when she accidentally or intentionally slept on the floor, she always woke up in her bed. When she asked Becky about it, she had 'o idea what she was talking about.

From then on, some strange rings had been happening to her but they did not harm her in anyway. Even if she had been alone, she felt as if someone was desperately trying to cover her in their wings to protect them from something invisible. Her mind had stopped wondering about it but now it all made sense. For the first time in a long time, she smiled and it was genuine. A certain warmth she hadn't felt in a while spread through her heart.

For the first time in a while, her emotions felt alive. There was no more pain neither was there any suffering. Her shoulders felt lighter and so did her legs. She could see herself flying above the clouds. And she could also see the light at the end of the very dark endless tunnel. For the first time in a long time, she had hope.

Grandma Hailey walked in the hall, her destination was her grand daughter's room. Roger was not in his room when she went to wake him so the only explanation was… heaving a sigh she walked on. She was a till skinny woman with dark brown hair that was long and wild. She always had a smile that complemented her deep blue eyes. Whenever she walked with Felicity, one could not help but think of them as sisters. She did not have a single gray hair on her head.

This made her look a whole lot younger than she actually was. However, today something was terribly wrong. Hailey's wrinkles were visible, her yes were watery like she had Received the most devastating news. She constantly talked to herself even though her walk was slow and relaxed. Her body trembled probably from anger while she fiddled with her hands. Whatever had been troubling her, seemed too much for her.

When she arrived at Felicity's door, she paused. She lifted her hand to knock but actually do not. A tear fell from her eyes and she wiped it quickly. She breathed in and out and tried again but still could not. Giving herself another chance, she tried again but still failed spectacularly. With her plan failing, she headed back.

After some distance, she stopped and looked back before disappearing down the hall. If Felicity saw her as she was, then everything would be ruined. It was for the best. All she could hope was that she would accept it and not hate her for it. She just hoped against hope that she would still consider her family. And when this is over, they would sit back and laugh. A hurricane was upon them. And they were not ready.

Roger stirred in his sleep. Felicity snapped out of her day dream and got off her bed. She approached Roger slowly so as not to wake him. His face looked beautiful and calm as he slept. She crouched next to his face and continued watching him. Roger heard someone's heart beating rhythmically and he slowly opened his eyes.

Immediately, he squinted from the light that penetrated through the light curtains. He lifted his hand in an attempt to cover his eyes from the light when he hit something. He felt whatever he had hit and found it to be very warm and squishy. Looking at the direction of the squishy object he met two emerald eyes glaring at him.

He looked his hand which held her face in place. Roger squeezed and loosened his grip in order to confirm whether it was really his hand. Felicity frowned more but because her face was held in place, she had a funny look on her face. Roger let out a laugh and it only grew louder as he looked at her face. After getting the image synced with his memory he let her go but still laughed.

He sat on the sofa and wiped the tears of joy that had ben pouring out from his eyes. He looked at her again and could not help laughing. Felicity was pouting as this young man laughed at her. After his laughter had died down, he lifted his cover and sat down with his legs touching the floor. He looked at her and waited.

Felicity stood up and went on to sit next to him. She was silent for a moment. Her mind churned with questions that needed answers but she felt like time was not on her side so she decided to ask the basic and the ones that held weight to them. She was nervous for some reason and she could not distinguish whether that was a bad thing or a good thing.

"Who is he?"

Roger looked her in the eyes. Felicity felt as though he was looking into her very soul and he was.

"He told you."

She tried thinking back and her head ached.

"You will only hear it when the time is right." He finished.

"What are we?"

Silence.

"I can't remember. But, we are part of a dying race. There are only three of us left, apart from him that is. Me, you and Becky. We are the last of our own kind. I don't know what I am and no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to remember. Your mother told me not to force it but for some reason I know that I need to know what happened back then as it's important."

"What do you mean, our own kind? Mother knew?"

"Of course she did, before you, she Was the last…mmmh…lemme see. If it's our own kind them I can say am a rabbit, you're a wolf and Becky is a lion. Sound about right?"

He looked at Felicity to find her almost jumping out of her skin.

"It's an example, an example."

She sighed.

"All I can tell you is that to humans we are rare. Most of us are extinct or hurt beyond repair. Some of us are in hiding while others kill their own for money. But the three of us are special, if they find us they won't kill us but for some reason I can tell that we'd better be off dead than alive. Listen to me Feli, the only one you can really trust apart from Becky and I is him. He will protect you at the cost of his own life."

"Why?"

"He doesn't need a reason."
