Chapter 12

Eric POV

I'd left her in her room after she proceeded to try and undress me. I told her I had a headache (such a girl thing to do I know) and that I needed some painkillers from the Doctor. What I really wanted to do was to check on Sophie.

I knew he'd probably with Sophie when I reached his office. I couldn't barge in, she already thought I was a dick. As did Blaze. He was furious with me and set up a mental block so that I couldn't talk to him. I know I was hurting him as much as I was hurting Sophie, but it was in her best interests right?

I walked to the reception desk and found nurse Jenny working in the back office. She was stocking up a trolley full of medical equipment.

"Jenny would you be so kind as to let Dr Sven know I want a word with him?"

"Yes of course Alpha. You can wait in consult room B if you like."

I nodded my head and made my way to consult room B, directly opposite his normal consult room. I knew she was in there and my body was desperate for her. I could smell her toffee apple and strawberry smell from behind the door. Even Blaze poked his head out from behind his barrier, but he slunk back down when he saw I wasn't going to do anything about it. I entered the room, sat down opposite the desk, and waited.

"What can I help you with Alpha?" He sounded very formal.

"How is she?" I asked eagerly.

"If you're asking about Sophie she's confused and scared. I'm not surprised after the way you treated her Eric. Your Father would have been disappointed." He glowered at me from behind his glasses.

"I had to. I promised myself I would stick by Tatiana." I felt angry. It's not what I wanted but it was the right thing to do. Why was everyone telling me it was wrong? I was told to be responsible for my actions and now that I am it's my fault. I got up and started pacing the room.

"Beyond your own true happiness? Seems a little harsh. No one expects you to be a martyr Eric, she needs you.

I look at the floor. I know what I was doing was against the Moon Goddess, but wouldn't she want me to be responsible for my heir as well?

"Did she say anything about me?" Perhaps she'd said something to the doctor.

"You know I can't divulge patient confidentiality. I need to conduct my MRI now." He moved to open the door and I pushed my hand against it. I growled in the back of my throat. So, he did know something.

"I can make you tell me as your Alpha." My face was inches from his.

"And I can blatantly refuse because I am head doctor of this pack. This is your mistake Eric, stop trying to find someone else to blame and fix it!"

Without another word he left. I sat down on the chair again for a moment. Perhaps I did need to talk to her. Explain the situation. We could work through it together.

"Now that's more like it." Blaze piped up.

"I know its what you wanted Bud. Its just hard when I'm trying to do the right thing for everyone."

"You can't please everyone Eric. It's not possible." Blaze purred. When did my wolf become smarter than me?

Before we could discuss it any further James's voice sounded in my head.

"Sorry to disturb Alpha but there has been an incident at the territory boarder. Jamison has been injured."

"Where is he now?" I roar through the link.

"He's on his way to emergency. Can you meet us there?"

"I'm already here."

I jumped up from my seat and took off towards the emergency rooms which were down near radiology.

Jamison was sitting upright in a bed cradling a very bloody arm. He looked pale and a thin line of sweat had broken out on his dark-skinned forehead.

"What happened?"

"Jamison and I were do the patrol as usual." Kiara said from a seat next to Jamison.

"Yeah, but I said to Kiara I felt we were being watched." Jamison winced as a nurse took his arm and extended it out next to him. "Next thing I know this giant black wolf with black eyes came charging at us."

"A black wolf? Was it a rouge?" I asked. This didn't sound good.

"If he was a rouge, he covered his scent well." Kiara added.

"It was a male wolf?" Both Kiara and Jamison nodded. "How do you know?"

Kiara looked at Jamison and squeezed his hand.

"Alpha it was weird. It was like he got into my head." Jamison flinched again as the nurse began washing the wound.

I looked at it. There were four clean-cut slashes. The skin folded in flaps on his arm.

"What did he say?" I asked.

"He said 'This is a warning for your Alpha.' "

This wasn't good. Was it the same wolf that attacked Sophie and spied on me? Who was he and why was he sending me a message?

"Thank you. You've both been very helpful." There was one more thing that was bothering me.

I walked over to the nurse who had been washing Jamison's wound.

"Can you tell me why he hasn't started healing yet?"

"I'm not sure Alpha. It's very odd." She shook her head in disbelief.

"I'll find Dr Sven. Maybe he'll be able to help."

Without waiting for her to respond I took off towards the radiology department. I was about to ask a trainee doctor if Dr Sven was still in the MRI room when I catch the smell of blood. I turn around and find myself face to face with Tatiana holding onto Luke.

"Oh Eric!" She wailed. "Something's wrong with our baby."

Luke grimaced at her remark and let go of her arm. She hobbled over to me and cried out in pain. I grabbed the trainee and asked him to get a wheelchair. Nurse Jenny rushed over grabbing hold of Tatiana.

Next thing I know Dr Sven is walking towards us. Sophie is right behind. SHIT.

"Doctor!" Nurse Jenny called.

"Doctor please. Help me, I'm bleeding!" Tatiana cried.

Dr Sven started at me then at Tatiana. Sophie peered around the doctor and I could see her assessing the drama unfolding in front of her before letting her eyes rest on mine.

"She's pregnant!" Sophie yelled. I could see she was angry. She dived towards Tatiana but stopped when I jumped in front of her. Tatiana screamed in pain again and hung onto my arm. Sophie looked around the hall and then made a run for it.

"Sophie, stop!" Nurse Jenny and Dr Sven called out.

I went to go follow her. Blaze was urging me on. But Tatiana held on tight to my hand. All I could do was stare after Sophie while my wolf scolded me.

"Tatiana, we need to get you to the emergency room." Dr Sven said.

Tatiana nodded her head as she continued to wail. The trainee had returned with a wheelchair and we wheeled Tatiana to a bed. Dr Sven and Jenny worked around Tatiana, taking her blood pressure, and asking her all kinds of questions. I wasn't listening. My thoughts were on Sophie and I wanted to go to her. Dr Sven then approached me.

"You need to go find Sophie." He whispered.

I nodded numbly and began to leave.

"No Eric I need you!" Tatiana shrieked.

"Love, the Alpha is better off waiting outside." Nurse Jenny said calmly.

I kept walking and didn't look back even though Tatiana's wails got louder. I had to find Sophie. I had to fix this.

I took off out the front door trying to follow her scent. I picked it up heading towards the grove of trees and sprinted. Blaze wanted to phase so we did as I ran. It was much easier to follow her scent when Blaze was in control.

Suddenly, I heard her cry out. We leaped off in the direction skirting around trees and jumping over roots. In front of me I saw Sophie. She was trying to get her foot free from a tree root. In front of her was the black wolf snarling. She screamed again and I barrel towards him, knocking into his side headfirst. He whimpers in shock before standing up and growling at me.

Next time Alpha

He turned around and sprints off. I want to run after him, but Blaze reminds me that Sophie is behind us. I pad over to her and she cowers into the tree.

"Please don't hurt me." She cried.

I forgot she didn't know my wolf and after what she'd just been through, she was terrified. I knew the patrol scouts often left spare clothes in tree hollows for emergencies, so I set off to find some. It didn't take long to find some and I darted behind a tree to change. I emerged from the tree and she burst into tears again.

"Oh seriously! Why does it have to be you." She wailed. I looked at her confused.

"I'm rescuing you." I said softly.

"But why? You hate me." She covered her face with her knees refusing to look at me.

I moved slowly towards her and could see her foot was still wedged in the root.

"I don't hate you Sophie." I sat down next to her. "I could never hate you."

I was so close to her. I hadn't been this close since she slept in my tent. My heart was beating fast and Blaze was running madly in my head. I ran my hand down the leg that was trapped. She flinched slightly at my touched but then relaxed into it. I felt around her ankle, she winced in pain. It didn't feel broken. I yanked at the tree root and she pulled her foot free.

"Thank you." She looked at me with watery eyes. I moved my hand to cup her face and run my thumb over her cheek taking away the tear trickling down. I looked at her soft lips then back to her eyes. Do I dare kiss her?

"Alpha, Tatiana is asking for you." Luke called through the mind link.

Of course she was. Her timing sucks.
