Chapter 13

Sven P.O.V

As soon as I began to examine Tatiana, I knew something wasn't quite right. As her doctor I didn't want to believe she was capable of hurting herself or her baby. The way she reacted to me trying to examine her sent alarm bells. She kept thrashing around and refusing to let me find the source of the bleeding.

"Where's Eric?" she cried hysterically.

"We had to send him out of the room. There's too many people here." I said placing a reassuring hand on her arm.

She shrugged my hand away and pouted before launching into another fit of wails.

"It hurts. Make it stop!" she screamed.

I got Jenny to give her some painkillers and after fifteen minutes, we finally got her to lie still. To me she looked nervous rather than concerned but then again maybe I was judging her too harshly because of my dislike of her.

However, I was alarmed to find a large laceration extending from her virginal opening to the beginning of her cervix. It was superficial but explained the extent of the bleeding. What made me more concerned was that it looked like a claw had dug into her creating the laceration. I concluded that she or someone else had to have done this to her, which was very worrying.

As far as I could tell, there was no sign of damage to the cervixes and it appeared to be firm and closed. However, after any kind of trauma it was best if I conducted an ultrasound to check on the uterus and baby to make sure everything was ok.

"Nurse Jenny could you please grab the portable ultrasound machine?" I smiled at Tatiana while Jenny wheeled the machine over to the bed.

"Is the pup ok?" she asked softly.

"So far I don't see any damage to the cervix which is a good start. I just want to check on the baby make sure the trauma hasn't affected her in any way."

I set up the machine while Jenny squirted the blue gel on Tatiana's stomach. When the machine was ready, I placed the transducer onto her stomach and pressed down slightly. Werewolf pregnancies are faster than human ones and it was not uncommon to see the foetus more active and growing quicker. Tatiana's baby was no exception. She looked perfectly healthy.

"Everything looks good Tatiana. Your pup is doing very well." I packed up the machine while Jenny helped Tatiana wipe away the gel on her stomach.

"Good." She smiled.

I didn't know how best to approach the cause of her laceration, but it was important that I find out.

"Tatiana, I have to ask, what happened when you started bleeding?"

Her eyes widened before slowly narrowing. "What do you mean Doctor?" She sounded all innocent.

"This is a substantial wound that made you bleed a lot. It was not something to do with your pregnancy and didn't happen naturally either." I tried to keep as calm as I could.

She looked around the room avoiding eye contact with me. "I have no idea what you're talking about." Her gaze rested on Gamma Luke who was waiting outside the door. "Luke!" she called.

He looked like a puppy timidly coming over and smiled meekly. "How can I help you Luna." He tried to grab her hand, but she withdrew it quickly.

"Call Eric for me, will you?" She looked up at him and smiled sweetly and he melted in front of her.

"Of course Luna." He disappeared quickly out the door again.

I looked at Tatiana with confusion. Why didn't she just use the mind link to contact Eric?

"Couldn't you have done that yourself?" I asked rather boldly.

"I'm going to be the future Luna. I need to know who's loyal to me." She glared letting her gaze linger on me.

I knew she was up to something. I had to tell the Alpha. I could not stand by and let Eric be used by her. I smiled at her with my usual reassuring smile. I decided there was nothing else I could do for her. Her wolf was beginning to heal the wound. I got up and made my way towards the door.

"Doctor." She called sweetly. "Not a word of this to anyone, or I'll have your job. Understand?"

"I wouldn't dream of it." I said and the quickly left the room.

In the corridor I was met with Luke who sheepishly smiled before ducking into the room again to be with Tatiana. It made me wonder what Tatiana had on him that he doted on her. I wanted to talk to him, tell him that he needed to talk to Eric but every chance I got he'd avoid me.

I began walking towards my office when I saw Eric, shirtless, carrying Sophie. I raced over to them. I felt a strong urge to protect her probably because she had been through so much and we were yet to discuss my findings on her scan.

"What happened?"

"I found her just before a rouge wolf attacked her. She'd got her foot stuck in a tree root." He gestured towards Sophie's bruised and swollen right foot.

I directed them towards a private suite. The emergency room was a little overcrowded and I doubted Sophie would want to be in the same room as Tatiana. Plus, this would give me the chance to speak to both Sophie and Eric.

Eric placed Sophie gently onto the bed and sat down next to her grabbing her hand in his. I began feeling around her foot. She winced a couple of times which indicated to me that it wasn't broken just badly sprained. She was healing but it was slower without her wolf.

"I'm going to strap this up for now. It will need to be elevated tonight but I see no reason why you can't walk on it tomorrow. Even without your wolf it's healing, just not as fast." I grinned at Sophie and she smiled in return.

I walked over to a cabinet that contained a variety of gauze pads, crape bandages and different sized dressings. As I was returning to strap Sophie's foot a knock sounded at the door and Luke entered.

"Um, sorry to disturb Alpha but Lu… I mean Tatiana wants to see you immediately." He looked down at Sophie and stared at her.

"She will have to wait. I'm helping the doctor with our guest." Eric wouldn't make eye contact with Luke and I wondered if he had put up a mind block so he wouldn't be disturbed.

"She's insisting you see her now." Luke muttered.

"I'm busy!" Eric roared. He stood up, his face red with anger.

"Oh ok. Um…very well I'll tell her." Luke slunk out of the room and Eric relaxed back next to Sophie.

I sat back down and began to bandage her foot. "We never got the chance to discuss my findings of your MRI Sophie." I said as I continued to wind the bandage over her foot.

"I'm sorry." She looked concerned.

"Please don't feel bad we can discuss it now."

"Do you want me to go?" Eric asked as he began to stand up.

"Actually no, I need to talk to you afterwards and you'll want to know anyway." I replied and Eric sat back down. "Sophie it is as I suspected. You have temporary partial amnesia. What concerns me is there was no trauma to your head, and you aren't healing that part of your brain."

"She spoke to me." Sophie said sitting up. "She sounded really far away as if she was off in the distance. She told me to look out that 'he' was coming."

"Who's he?" Eric asked.

"I don't know just next minute that rouge was in front of me." She shrugged her shoulders and eased back onto the pillows behind her.

Both Eric and I looked at each other with concern. This wasn't right and I was starting to worry that this rouge wasn't a rouge after all. Perhaps the rouge had something to do with her missing wolf and it frightened me at the prospect of what or who might be involved.

"You said you wanted to talk to me doctor?" Eric broke through my concentration.

"Yes. Now I hope you don't mind Sophie, but I have to speak to the Alpha privately." She nodded her head and I turned to Eric. "Has her room been organised?"

"Yes, she will be staying on my floor so I can keep an eye on her." He grinned and winked at Sophie who rolled her eyes.

Eric and I walked out of the private suite and into the corridor. It was pleasantly deserted so I knew we wouldn't be interrupted.

"What's this about Dr Sven?" Eric crossed is arms over his chest and leaned into me keeping his voice low.

"It's about Tatiana." I began. "She wasn't bleeding from her pregnancy. Her wound was superficial however what concerns me is that it was most likely made by a claw." I let my admission sink in.

"Did she do it or someone else?" I could see the anger rising on his face.

"I'm unsure. For her to do it herself it would have been awkward and uncomfortable. If someone else did it, she let them. There are no marks to indicate a struggle."

"That bitch!" he yelled.

"Shhh! I know this is hard to take but I think we should let her believe she's getting away with it. She did this for a reason and it wasn't to hurt your pup." I patted Eric on the back while he took a few breathes to calm down.

"I should probably go see her then." He mumbled and he hesitantly walked towards the emergency.

I hoped that she would soon reveal her true colours. She was a toxic person. We didn't need someone like her as our Luna.

Just as I was about to go back and help Sophie to her room, I heard a man shouting.

"Where is she! Where is my daughter!"

I made my way towards the yelling but stopped when I saw who it was. In front of me stood a ghost, a phantom from years ago.
