A Misunderstanding...?

"What?" Lucas asked.

Turning back to look at him, she met his eyes.

He had blue eyes that were as blue as the sea and sparkled in the night with the light provided by the torch.

With his head tilted sideways, Mariam could see the handsomeness that all the young ladies; according to our dear soldier, are dying for.

Rolling her eyeballs, she muttered;

"Hopeless...!"

Once muttered those words, she was about to turn her back on him, when he gripped her hand.

Smiling, he asked;

"Didn't I just say that I wasn't done with you...?"

"And I replied, that you haven't even started yet...!" Mariam replied sharply.

Lucas'smile broadened as he said;

"I'm so glad you know that I haven't even started with you yet...!" Lucas said.

Mariam frowned.

"What do you me....!" She asked, but was cut off.

Letting go of her hand, Lucas took a step back and gestured;

"I said I wasn't done with you yet...and you confirmed it by saying that I haven't even started with you yet...!" Lucas said.

As he said that, the two soldiers that had followed him, laughed.

Looking at her, he asked;

"Doesn't that confirm it...?"

Frowning, Mariam said;

"I...still...don't...get what you are saying...!"

Lucas smiled and then tapped on the shoulder of one of the soldierand then said;

"Explain what I meant to her...!"

Nodding, the soldier responded;

"With pleasure...!"

With her eyes still on Lucas, Mariam slowly shifted her eyes to look at the soldier that had been ordered to explain what he meant to Mariam.

"What General Lucas was trying to say was; he was talking to you but you refused to listen, so he said that he was through with you yet when you had tried to walk out on him and you also confirmed it, saying that he hadn't even begun yet...!" The soldier explained.

Understanding now, but still frowning, Mariam put down the front of her dress that she had been holding, straightened it, shrugged her shoulders and then looked up at the soldier.

Her look was blank but sharp.

Slowly, she turned her head towards Lucas and then back at the soldier, and then said;

"I do not care if what I said confirmed what he said...!"

"But thank you for the thorough explanation anyway...it was really helpful...!" She added.

Turning her head back towards Lucas, she said;

"Now if you'll please excuse me, I've got a Prince to attend to...!" She said with dignity and with her head high.

Lucas looked at her up and down and then laughed, causing the other soldier to laugh with him (not the one that had explained to Mariam though...).

Mariam's shoulders dropped.

'What's funny...?' she asked herself.

Then she looked at her dress.

"Forgive me my darling, but it's just what you said...!" Lucas apologized but Mariam didn't give him a chance to finish.

"I'm not your darling...!" She snapped.

The other soldier stopped laughing, and looked at Mariam for a bit, before turning to look at Lucas, who just covered his mouth but chuckled softly.

Removing his hand to his mouth, he walked forward and took Mariam's hair in his fingers and coiled it, playing with it.

Seeing that Lucas had taken a step forward towards her, her breathing increased as she also eyed his hand that stretched forth and his finger that coiled her hair.

She felt uncomfortable.

Wait, wasn't Samuel following her just now...? She thought to herself.

"Now, now Darling, I won't hurt you, unless if you want me to...!" He said in a gentle voice.

Mariam still breathed heavily.

"I...am...not...your...Darling...!" She still managed to day admist heavy breaths.

Bringing his mouth closer to her ear, he whispered;

"You're not going to care for that bastard of a Prince are you...?" He asks in a hoarse voice.

"Because I would be very disappointed if you do...!"

He said again as he lifted his arm and placed it on either side of Mariam, preventing her form moving.

Unable to resist the temptation, Mariam looked into his eyes and asked;

"What do you want...?"

Looking down at her, lucas smiled, and then laughed and then said;

"Look boys, the brave princess is finally giving in...!"

The same soldier that had laughed earlier, laughed again.

Glaring at Lucas, Mariam asked;

"Giving in to who...? You?"

Scoffing, she said;

"Now way...!"

Smiling, Lucas asked;

"Still trying to put your guard up...?"

"Let it down princess...it's time...!" He added as he moved away form her.

"Time for what...?" She asked as she gave him, 'the stink eye'.

Smiling, he looked down to adjust his gloves.

"Time to get married of course...!" He replied stills smiling.

Mariam's eyes widened.

"Who's talking about marriage...?" Mariam asked.

Lucas only looked up at Mariam smiling.

"You had better watch your mouth Lucas or you're gonna regret it of you don't want the King to know...!" Mariam threatened.

But Lucas laughed, as if knowing it was an empty threat.

"Now, now Dear...you don't threaten your future husband, do you?" He asked.

Looking at Lucas closely as her eyeballs switched from one eyeball to another, she frowned in disbelief as she asked;

"Husband...?"

Lucas nodded.

"I don't plan on getting married now..." She said.

"Besides, were not engaged...!" She said.

"I don't even know you...!"

"In fact, I..."

"Do I hear husband and wedding bells...?" A male voice was heard.
