The Valuable Gift

The waning crescent moon illuminated the sky as the darkness engulfed the district. Its thin curve looked almost unnoticeable. Fireflies and other tiny insects were dancing around the light bulb of the street post near the convenience store.

When Sofia crossed the pedestrian, there was a street vendor pushing a small wooden cart slowly on the side of the road.

"Sister, do you want to buy?" the street vendor asked. Only then did Sofia take notice that the vendor is female when she spoke. It was because this vendor was wearing baggy cloth, big jeans, and a men's cap that was completely hiding her hair. Her face was also covered with a plain black face mask giving anyone the impression that she is a man.

Sofia waved her hand, "I don't have enough money with me. Sorry."

She was not bluffing. There was really not enough cash in her bag or pockets to purchase any items on the wooden cart.
