He had managed to raise his stats to the point that he was equal to a level 8. His month of training was not in vain.
He spent as much time as he could every day practicing his mana circulation, but he never got any missions to raise its stat. However, he did manage to get extremely good at controlling his mana.
Standing outside the training hall were Emelia, Eta, and Henry. They were there seeing Jimmy off.
Eta was fidgeting in place, not quite sure what to say. She had grown attached to Jimmy over the past 2 weeks as they trained together.
Jimmy grinned and patted her on the head. "Don't worry Eta, I'll come back to train with you as soon as I can."
"You better!" She said with a pouty face.
Henry fist-bumped Jimmy and said "Make sure to become stronger before you come back. We still need to beat sensei."
Emelia cut in and said, "You're going to have to train for a million years if you want to catch up to me. Here, take this recommendation note. You can take a test to directly become a D rank adventurer if you have it."
Jimmy grabbed the note and bowed to her.
"Thank you sensei, I appreciate all the help you have given me this past month. I will definitely be back after I make enough money."
Emelia suddenly lifted him up and put him into a bear hug. His face was being smothered by two large objects, and he could not breathe.
"You better come back, you are my precious disciple now! You got that?!" She yelled while squeezing the soul out of him.
'Why does not one let me breathe…' He thought to himself as he started to see white light.
"Hey sensei, let go! I don't think he can breathe!" Henry called out worriedly
"Oh, your right. Sorry about that." She said as she let him fall to the floor.
His spirit re-entered his body and he picked himself up. "Thanks, Henry, I nearly respawned there."
With his goodbyes done, he headed to the adventurer guild. He walked down the streets for an hour following the directions his sensei gave him before he left.
Soon, a massive three-story building came into view. It had a grand feeling to it that you normally wouldn't associate with an adventures guild.
The world in Ascension is called Earth, however, unlike the Earth in real life, it is almost three times as big. With its massive size and numerous magical beats and monsters roaming the world, only around 20% of the land is colonized by intelligent species. The rest is an untamed land filled with dangers. This has led to adventures being a much-needed and respected profession.
Jimmy walked through the large double-door and saw a massive room supported by marble columns.
There were multiple queues with people lined up and waiting for their turn to speak with the guild staff.
He saw a sign labeled "Administration" and joined its line.
As he was reaching close to the front of the line a commotion happened in front of him.
A level 1 player who just joined the adventurers guild had his request to take the advancement test. He wasn't satisfied with only being a rank F adventurer because they weren't able to take hunting missions. However, he did not have the required completed missions or a recommendation to take the test.
Behind him was a rugged-looking warrior who was level 10. He had a thick black beard and a shaved head, making him look like he took the hair off his head and shoved it on his face.
"Move out of the way rookie, you wouldn't be ready for D-rank missions at level 1. You have to work your way up just like the rest of us." He said with a sneer.
The level 1 noob who was red in the face and embarrassed quickly left.
The man walked up the counter and said, "I am here to take the promotion exam."
The clerk scanned his identification card with a magical device and nodded her head. She gave the man a ticket for the exam and then told him where to go.
After the man finished and started walking away Jimmy's turn finally arrived and he approached the counter.
"Hello, I am here to join the adventurer guild. I would also like to take the exam to be promoted directly to D-rank," he said to the clerk.
The burly warrior overheard and stopped walking. He turned around and had another look of disdain on his face.
"Another level 1 rookie wanting to take the exam? You people need to learn your place and stop making a fool out of yourselves." The man mocked.
Jimmy ignored the man and pulled out his recommendation note and handed it to the clerk.
She looked at the note with shock before quickly saying, "Yes, sir! With your rank-A recommendation, you are qualified to take the exam."
She asked him a couple of questions and filled out his adventurer identification card. She then handed him his exam ticket and told him where to go to take it.
Jimmy walked past the dumbfounded Warrior with a smirk and said, "Good luck on your test."
He went down a side hall and entered a waiting room for the exam.
Four people were already waiting inside and glanced at him before quickly losing interest.
He took a seat on a bench in a corner of the room just as the door opened again. The warrior from before shot him a glare before sitting down on the other side of the room.
After 10 minutes of waiting no new examinees showed up, the examiner walked through the door.
She had dark skin which was rare in the Rone kingdom. The daggers at her waist signified that she was most likely of the assassin class, which clashed with the pleasant and bright look she had on her face.
"Hello guys, I am the examiner today. You can call me Seia. Follow me to the arena so we can begin the test." She said as she walked through the set of doors on the other side of the room.
Everyone got up from their seats and followed her into the next room.
Inside was a large square ring 40 feet across.
Seia faced the examinees and said with a smile, "We will now begin the exam. There are six of you, so we will be doing a sparing session. Each of you will partner up with another person and fight on the stage. I will be watching from the side and judge who is fit to advance."
She clapped her hands and continued, "This is only a spar so no dismemberment or killing allowed! If you break the rules you will have your license revoked and you will be banned from the adventures guild permanently. Not to mention I will be personally handing you over to the city guards."
The matchings were announced and to Jimmy's surprised he was matched with the warrior who mocked him earlier.
The other two matches finished quickly and his match came up.
"Ok we are at the final match, would Jimmy Green and Alton Brawn please head into the arena," Seia said.
After they both entered the arena Alton had a fierce smile on his face and gave Jimmy a disdainful look.
"You may have somehow acquired a Rank-A recommendation, but that doesn't mean you are ready to become a D-rank. I look forward to the face you'll make when you fail." Alton snarled.
Jimmy put a finger in his ear and said, "You talk too much."
Alton's face turned bright red and it looked like steam might come out of his ears at any moment.
Seia held back laughter on the side and said, "On my mark, you guys may start."
Both sides readied their weapons. Jimmy pulled out his basic iron spear while Alton pulled out a massive steel hammer.
'He is level 10, so he should have a big stat lead. Every 10 levels you get 100 bonus stat points to allocate, but I have the stats of a level 8. This gap is nothing compared to sensei." Jimmy thought to himself.
"Begin!"
As the battle commenced Alton charged forward, confident he could crush a level 1 with ease.
Jimmy stood still, waiting for his moment to strike.
Alton, confusing Jimmy's lack of movement for fear, laughed and said, "I am going to crush you!"
Alton swung his hammer at Jimmy's side, expecting a one-hit k.o.
Expecting this development, Jimmy narrowly ducked under the hammer and swung his spear at the man's now completely undefended legs.
His strike, plus the momentum of the man's swing, caused Alton to collapse to the ground.
Jimmy placed his spear's head against Alton's neck and Seia ended the battle.
Alton never expected Jimmy to be capable of moving so fast nor skillfully and dug his own grave.
