Designated driver

I close the door gently behind me and I walk to Jaxon's car.

Jaxon uses a white Audi r8.

Yup.

An r8.

Before I left her room, Chelsea gave me some tips.

1. I shouldn't be too forward.

2. I shouldn't let my intentions show.

3. I shouldn't be too shy nor nervous.

and 4, the best way to make a guy fall for you is slowly. The kind of love he doesn't know he has for you until you're away from him.

"Hey you." I greet him as soon as I enter his car.

"Hey. Was I late?" He asks and I buckle up.

"No, but you weren't early either."

"Classic." He starts the car. "So home?"

"Actually, I was thinking," I start.

"I'm listening."

"Shopping with Chelsea has worn me out and I'm starving. So I-"

"Say no more." He interuppts me. "Eat till you die?" He asks.

"Eat till you die." I confirm.

"Yes." He pumps his fist in the air and pulls out of Chelsea's driveway. "I have had cravings for their food for a while now but I didn't know how to ask you."

What?

"You could've been like, 'Hey Summer, wanna eat till you die?"

"Niceeee. I like that." He nods and I laugh.

"So next time, just ask. Don't hold back."

"I'll take that into consideration." He smiles at me before looking back at the road.

In less than thirty minutes, we get there.

We enter and choose a booth.

"I see you're back again." The waiter who attended to us the last time says as he comes for our order.

"Well, what can we say? We just want to eat till we die." Jaxon speaks up and the waiter smiles.

"One of the many reasons that particular name was chosen. It can be said anytime, anyhow or anywhere."

"Well I like it." I add.

"I'm glad you do." He smiles back.

He looks like he's in his late twenties. With dark brown hair, brown eyes and a small body frame, he could easily pass as a high schooler.

"Your order?"

"Two cheese burgers, one large fries, and a medium milkshake." Jaxon says.

"And for the lady?" John, as his name tag says, turns to me.

"A cheese burger, medium fries, and a coke." I say and he writes it down.

"Okay. I'll be back with your food soon." John says and leaves.

"Why are you eating little?" Jaxon asks.

"For me, it's enough. Unlike you, who needs all his strength back.'

"I know, I'm so tired." He sighs, rests his head on his chair and closes his eyes.

"Want me to drive you home?" I suggest and he opens one eye.

"Who's gonna drive you home?" He asks back.

Oh. Right.

"Then want me to drive myself home? You can take the wheels from there."

"No problem. It's a deal." He closes his eyes again.

"So," I begin. "How was practice?"

"Tiring. But besides that, it was thrilling. We practiced for hours and hours but I loved every part of it."

"You really do like football huh?"

"With all my heart." He says in a heartbeat.

I wonder if you'll love me with all your heart one day.

Our food arrives and we dig in. After we were done, we had an argument about who was going to pay so we agreed to spilt it.

"Here you go." Jaxon throws me his keys as I near his car.

"You want me to drive your car?" I ask and he nods. "Your Audi?" I ask again and he nods.

"You said you wanted to drive yourself home." He reminds me.

"Yeah, but aren't you scared I'll crash it?"

"I'm sure you won't." He opens the passengers' door and enters.

I'm still outside the car when he startles me with his horn.

"C'mon." I hurry to the driver's side.

I enter the car, start it and got on the road.

Jaxon makes himself comfortable beside me. He rests his head on the head rest and closes his eyes.

"Are you sure you don't me to drive you home?"

"I'm sure."

"I could call a cab."

"It's fine Hathaway."

"Should I call you a cab then? I could come pick you up tomorrow morning and drive us to school." I suggest and this time he opened his eyes.

"I never thought of that."

"So should I call?" I briefly look at him.

"You really don't want me to drive this night do you?"

"Not when you're this tired."

He doesn't say anything.

"I'll text Austin to come pick me up."

"Okay. Then I'll be your designated driver tomorrow."

"I can't wait."
