Make me proud

"I'm just trying to solve the first mystery and yet he drops another one." I groan.

"I like this Jaxon guy. Aside from the fact that he has a famous sister, he's full of mysteries." She blows on her wet nails.

After 'shopping', we came to Chelsea's house and I told her about my phone call with Jaxon.

I'm lying on her bed frustrated, while Chelsea's by her desk, polishing her nails.

"I always hated mysteries." I grunt.

"But you like Jaxon." She points out.

"Which makes it much worse." I sigh.

"Hey." I turn to her. "Do you think this color's right for my nails?" She shows me her new polished nails.

What?

"Chelsea?! I'm going through something here. This is not the time for nail polish recommendation although it does look nice."

"I know right I just got it." She smiles and I sigh.

She sets her nail polish down and turns to me.

"Look, I'm no love expertise or anything, but I think you're overthinking everything."

I sit up.

"But you are a love expertise. You and Austin have been dating for the past three years now. Almost four."

"Yeah, our love is great but, you do get my point."

I fall back on the bed.

"I do Chelsea, I really do. But what if he's actually referring to himself and then he likes another girl that's not me?"

"Then make him like you!"

Huh?

I sit back up.

"Make him fall for you. His 'supposed love' for another girl will go away when he likes you."

"But I don't know how to do that." I mutter.

"You just have to figure it out. I don't know, call him more often, show love to what he loves, be supportive, I don't know, anything. But most importantly, be yourself."

"I didn't think of that." I fall back on the bed.

"That's why you have me dummy."

My phone rings in my bag and I reach to take it.

"It's Jaxon." I look at Chelsea.

"What are you waiting for? Answer it!"

I quickly answer the call before it ends and put it on speaker.

"Hey Jaxon."

"Hi. So guess what?" He asks playfully over the line.

"What's up?" I sit well.

"I just finished practice and I was wondering if you still needed some rescuing."

Chelsea looks at me confused but I just mouth 'later' to her.

"Sure, yeah. I'm at Chelsea's house right now."

"So I can come pick you up?" He asks.

"In your car or bike?" I ask back.

"My car silly."

"Then yeah. You can come pick me up."

"Great. Just text me the address and I'll be there."

"Alright." I say and hung up. Immediately, I text him her address.

"Are you sure Jaxon was referring to another girl when he told you the story?" Chelsea asks.

"Well, he didn't directly say it, but I know it's another girl."

"But what if it's just an harmless story?"

"Trust me Chelsea, I've watched enough movies to know that was not an ordinary story. And besides, what does thank for clarification mean? It means thanks for pointing out that I'm helplessly in love with a girl that's not you." I say in a rush.

"If you say so." She sighs. "Anyway, he's coming here to pick you up. He'd probably want to take you straight home, but you should find some excuse to hang out with him more okay?" She says and I nod.

"Want some new clothes to look prettier?"

"I look pretty the way I am thank you." I dust my uniform. "I want him to fall for me, not my dressing. And besides, he's probably still in his uniform since he's coming straight from school."

"I'm sorry, you're right. It's just that my baby is chasing after her man." She wipes an imaginary tear away. "She's finally a grown woman." She sniffs.

"Oh shut up."

"I have a right to be emotional you know." She huffs.

"Whatever." My phone beeps and I check it.

'Hey I'm here.' Reads the message.

"He's here?" Chelsea asks and I nod.

"He's here."

"Now go make me proud."
