Clear my head

"One day Chelsea, one day I'm going to kill your boyfriend." I say as I make myself comfortable on the bed.

The drive home from school was an awkward one. Each time Jaxon tried to speak, I interrupted him.

It was either I switched the radio on, or I changed the subject.

After he finally got off, I let out the breath I didn't know I was holding.

I knew I was just overreacting, but in my defense, I've never been kissed before. And this almost-kiss made my heart pound so hard I thought it'd literally come off.

I mean, why would he want to experiment with me?

It's not like he likes me.

Maybe, he's just helping me out because we're friends?

Yeah, that's probably it.

Yeah.

But why does that realisation make me feel a little sad?

'Because he's wants to kiss you out of friendship not love. He's doing it because he thinks it's the right thing to do as your friend.' My conscience whispers.

Oh.

Oh.

Yeah, right.

I got home, neither of my parents were home, so I went upstairs, showered, got my phone and called Chelsea.

"What did he do this time?" She asks over the phone.

"Well, Jaxon and I were by his car and he almost kissed me but Austin-"

"Wait!" She cuts me off. "Did you just say you guys almost kissed?"

"Yes. But then Austin came and interuppted us."

"Tell.Me.Everything." She says and I adjust myself well on the bed.

"Well," I begin "We were playing twenty questions, and then he asked when my first kiss was, but I told him I didn't have one so he said I could experiment with him and he was moving closer. Just when our lips were about to touch, Austin came and ruined it all." I say in a rush.

"Oh my. That sick asshead! How dare he?" She curses.

"I know right? He had this laughter in his eyes and just then I felt like strangling him."

"Don't worry. I'll personally hand over his head."

"That's why I love you." I say, waiting for her coy response.

"You were born to love me bitch." She replies.

There it is.

"Sure." I roll my eyes.

"So what did he say after Austin left?"

I rest my back on my pillow and sigh.

"I didn't let him speak. I interrupted him each time he tried to talk."

"You didn't want to hear what he wanted to say?" She asks.

"No I didn't. And that made it much more awkward." I groan.

"What if he didn't want to talk about it?"

"Guess we'll never know." I shrug.

"Poor you."

"Yeah." I sigh.

We talk more before I finally hang up.

I was about to sleep, when my phone rings.

I check the ID and it's Jaxon.

Shit.

I didn't expect to talk to him this soon.

I take deep breaths before I answer the call

"Hey Jaxon." I say lowly.

"Um hi. Were you sleeping?" He asks.

"I was just about to." I reply.

"I didn't know whether to call or not. I didn't want to wake you, but at the same time, I wanted to talk to you."

"Chelsea kept me up. I just ended her call like five minutes ago." I turn to sleep on my side.

"That's good." Silence. "Um, actually I called-" He clears his throat. "I called because I wanted to tell you something."

"What's up?"

"Um... There's no need to come pick me up tomorrow."

"Why?" I ask, a little disappointed.

"Um, I'll just take my bike."

"That doesn't answer the question." I mutter and he pauses.

"I- I almost did something I shouldn't have today. I don't regret it, but I still shouldn't have and it's driving me nuts." He pauses and clears his throat. "So I need to clear my head and get it out of my system. I don't think I can get it out of my system if I see you tomorrow morning, and I don't think it'd be out by tomorrow evening."

"You could go for a drive this night." I suggest.

"Already did that." He sighs. "But it didn't go as planned."

"How so?"

"I ended up in the wrong place."

"Where?" I ask again.

"A place I shouldn't be."

"And where is that place?"

"You wouldn't believe if I told you." He chuckles softly.

"Try me."

He pauses for a while and I check my screen to see if the call had been disconnected.

"You don't have to worry about that."

"Oh." So you're not going to tell me. "Okay then."

"I'll see you later Hathaway."

"Goodnight."

"I don't know if I can sleep this night, but goodnight." He says and hangs up.

I stare at my screen for some seconds before I hear the rumbling sound of an engine outside my window.

So I got up and walked towards the window to check it out.

A rider on a motorcycle drives down the road. He's in all black and I don't see his face because he has an helmet on.

Why the fudge would someone want to drive a death machine at this time?

I shudder and I leave my window to walk back to my bed.

I tuck myself in and I get ready to sleep.
