One wish

It's been a month since Jaxon and I talked about my awkwardness.

Sincerely, I was embarrassed. The fact that he had to see me all awkward like that wasn't really nice.

We didn't talk about it after, but certainly we had become closer. We did everything together, walked together, ate together, we would select days when we have to drive each other to school, and all that.

You could call us best friends because from the looks of things, Jaxon was slowly taking Chelsea's position.

But trust Chelsea, she wouldn't even allow a fly to take her to come close to being my bestie.

Today's Jaxon's game and he had been nervous ever since he called me this morning.

Today's friendly game is just a small match between two teams. No need for big players as it doesn't really count.

Like Austin says, it's just like practicing with people other than your teammates. But some people took this match seriously.

People like Jaxon. This match would determine the number of his shirt, his place in the team, it would determine if he's just going to be warming the bench for the rest of the season, or if he's going to be killing it on the field.

Today's match is a big deal for first time players.

"Jaxon c'mon, it's going to be fine. You are going to do great out there." I encourage him for the thousandth time.

Normally, I wasn't supposed to be here, because we were in front of the locker room. But I wanted to see him before his game.

I had gotten here like two hours ago to watch Jaxon practice. And now I just wanted to wish him good luck before his game.

I'm dressed in a baggy black plain tee, boyfriend jeans and white sneakers. My hair's in a messy bun, while Jaxon was yet to change into his jersey.

"Well that's easy for you to say. You're not the one who's going to be on the pitch playing."

"And that's why I'm on the side line rooting for you."

"And I appreciate that." He smiles.

"Hey how about this," I start. "If you do well enough, I'll grant you one wish." I say and his face lights up.

"One wish?" He asks with a finger up.

"Just one."

"I really get a wish if I do well enough?" He asks again and I nod.

"Yes."

"You're not teasing me are you?" He asks me skeptically and I laugh.

"I'm serious."

"Well then, I want you to-"

"You wanna say your wish now? Not after the game?" I question him.

"It's better I have an answer now. It'd be a driving force for me."

"Well then, let's hear it."

"I want you to go on a date with me."

"Sure. We'd head over to our bur-"

"No." He interuppts me. "I don't mean that kind of date. I mean the nice dresses, suit and tie, fancy restaurants with overpriced foods kind of date."

If I should tell you the number of times Jaxon had made my heart beat really fast in this past month, you wouldn't believe me.

"You mean the kind couples go to?" I tilt my head a little.

"We may not be a couple yet but yes. The kinds couples go to."

Wait....'yet'?

My poor heart!!!

"So? Would you?"

"Of course, yes." I nod and his face lights up immediately with a grin.

"Guess I'll have to win then." He stretches his arms and suddenly jumps up.

"I suddenly feel energized and I'm bursting with confidence! Woah!!" He shouts and I laugh.

He turns and walks to the door.

"Woah!"

"Good luck!" I shout behind him.

After he enters, I chuckle to myself and I walk back to the field.

"Where were you?" Chelsea asks when I meet her at one of the benches.

"With Jaxon." I sit beside her

"Ohhhhhhh okay." She smiles.

"Hey Winter."Austin waves at me.

"Winter?" I raise an eyebrow at him

"Summer's supposed to be fun and warm, but you are just cold and boring. Just like winter."

"Fuck you."

"But you love me." He winks at me and I gag.

"Tell me why you're not on the field again?"

"I already told you, This is just practice."

"But you're the captain." I point out.

"And I have an assistant." He smiles. "He's on duty tonight."

"You're just too lazy."

"And don't forget it!"

I shake my head but Chelsea just smiles.

"Yeah that's my boo."

The players start to troop in and I see our team in their usual blue and white jersey. The other team were in green and white jerseys.

"What's their name?"

"AIHS."

"Meaning?" I ask again.

"Ainstein international high school."

"Ainstein?" Both Chelsea and I ask at the same time.

"Yes."

"But isn't it supposed to be spelt with a 'E'?" Chelsea asks.

"Guess they wanted to be creative." He shrugs.

The referee blows his whistle and the game kicks off.

At first, it was just players passing the ball to each other but later on, it became tough.

Players were passing, dribbling, cornering and defending the ball.

Jaxon had already had three goal attempts but surely the opponent's keeper was a good one.

By half time, it was still 0-0. Looks like everyone wanted a place on the pitch.

We stretched, ate and relieved ourselves before the start of second half.

After second half started, the game became tougher. There were more goal attempts from our players and near goal attempts from AIHS.

Two minutes to full time, a certain player from our side had the ball. He passed it to Jaxon and Jaxon passed to him after dribbling some players.

Between them, it was a passing game. They were both fast, I'd give them that.

When the first player was in the corner side, a defender came to block him, so he kicked the ball to Jaxon.

Jaxon bounced the ball from his head, then to his chest and finally his foot. He was about to kick the ball when a defender from no where came and tackled him. But before Jaxon fell down, he shot the ball towards the goalpost.

Everything went in slow motion as we watched the ball go. And after the sound of the final blow of the whistle, I knew I had to start shopping for dresses.
