Nightmare

"Hi darling." I hear his voice.

His taunting smile was directed at me. His scaring eyes were looking straight into my bloody eyes.

He staring at me like a lion who was ready to devour his prey.

I couldn't move, I couldn't look away.

I felt helpless.

He then sits beside my window and sighs.

"You know, we wouldn't have to go through all this if you had just listened to me. I really hate getting blood on my hands, but for you darling, I could kill a whole city."

I gulp.

"You had one thing to do. Just one! But you disobeyed me. I sent you several texts, I called you several times, I left you several warning notes but you damn didn't just listen!" He sounded like he was getting frustrated.

I was silently screaming in pain. My body ached, and the only thing I could of was Nathan.

He wasn't moving, and he looked like he wasn't breathing.

Suddenly the man laughs. His laughter booms in the darkness and I felt a cold shiver through my body.

"Just for you, I killed a person." He pauses. "Just for you I killed a freaking person!!!!!!" He shouts. "And damn I don't regret it." He says lowly.

God please help me. Please don't let anything happen to Nathan. Please!!!!! I'd anything, but please don't let him die.

Suddenly, I hear a groan beside me.

"Na-Nathan?" I tried to call his name but my voice was above a whisper.

He didn't stop groaning.

"Na-Nathan?" I tried again but I couldn't even hear my own voice.

The man stands up from my side and walks round the car to Nathan's side.

I slowly turn my head to the other side even though it took most of my strength.

He crotches down to his level and grabs Nathan's hair tightly.

"You're the reason for all this. You're at fault. You should've just left her alone." He leaves his hair roughly.

"I mean, couldn't you see she was taken?!" He shouts in frustration. "What's wrong with kids these days? Trying to take what's not yours."

He sighs.

"You should have just left her boy. You look like you have a bright future ahead of you. Why did you just-" He pauses. "But no worries. Since this have been taken care of, I hope you've learned your lesson." He pats his shoulder gently.

The man looks at me.

"This is what happens if someone takes what's mine. They get cut off." He gives me a smile which slowly turns to laughter.

....

I wake up with a jolt. I was sweating profusely and I couldn't seem to calm down.

Suddenly, I couldn't breathe and my chest felt tight. I felt like something was clutching heart tightly.

My vision was blurry and I felt like I was left in the middle of a snow storm.

Slowly but painfully, I counted one to ten. I tried to focus on my breathing.

I was clutching my bedsheet tightly.

After some minutes of the worst moment of my life, I could finally control my breathing.

I've never had a nightmare like that before.

I reached for my phone on bedside table to see the time is just past two in the midnight. I dialed his number.

The phone rings and rings and just when I was about to give up, he answers the call.

Oh thank goodness!

"Hello?" He says roughly.

I don't say anything for a moment and he notices it to.

"Summer?" He calls my name.

I don't know what I was thinking. I had a nightmare, but I wanted to disturb someone who was peacefully sleeping on the other end.

Now that seemed selfish.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you i-i-i-"

"Is something wrong?"

"No. I-"

"Summer." He interrupts me with a stern voice. "What's wrong?"

"I had a nightmare." I say gently.

"Do you need me over?"

Yes.

"No." I lie. "I don't want to disturb you. You were-"

"Summer." He calls my name gently and I feel tears in my eyes.

"Yes please." I say hoarsely.

"I'll be there in 20." He hangs up and I just stare at my phone.

I pulled my covers closer to me and started rocking my self.

I don't know how long I stayed in this position but to me, it felt like eternity.

My bedroom door suddenly opens and I see Jaxon at my doorway.

He sees me and his expression changes immediately. "Summer."

I suddenly start crying and he rushes to me.

He takes me in his arms and holds me.

"There there." He pets me.

I couldn't stop crying. I don't know how long I cried for, but I cried.

When I calmed down, he didn't let go and we don't say anything for a while.

"Do you want to talk about it?" He asks me as he strokes my hair.

"He spoke to me." I say after a moment.

"Who did?"

Again I don't say anything for a moment.

"The man who killed Nathan."

"You saw his face?"

I nod. "I did, but..." I trail off.

"But?" Jaxon urges me on.

"He looked really familiar. I don't know where I might've seen him."

"Don't think too much into it. You should get some sleep."

I look at him with a worried expression. "What if I have another nightmare?"

"Don't worry, I'm here." He lays me down on the bed well and gets into the cover beside me.

He holds me tightly in his arms and somehow, I felt safe.

"I don't think I can stay for long though." He says.

"Why?"

"I don't want your parents coming in here and seeing me cuddling their daughter. What would they think of me."

I chuckle. "That you took advantage of their precious innocent daughter?"

"If only they knew how innocent their daughter wasn't." He strokes my hair.

"Stay till I fall asleep?" I ask.

"Sure."

As much as I didn't want to, and surely I did fight it, but I drifted into sleep.

And when I woke up the next morning, without another nightmare waking me up, the space on my bed beside me was empty.
