Gabriel sat by her bed and watched her sleep while he called Justin, Marlon, Alex, his aunt, and her other sisters. They were all very relieved to hear that she was okay and promised to come and visit as soon as they could; except for Alex who wouldn't be back for another couple of months, Gabriel was also pleased to hear that everything was going alright between Alex and his mother.
His stomach growled and he realized that he hadn't eaten since he left the hotel. So he called Diana and asks her to bring back a sub sandwich for him and a chicken and fruit salad for his very stubborn, jealous, and very pregnant wife.
A few minutes later Diane woke up and stretched sleepily. "Hi, baby boy." "Hi beautiful; how are you feeling?" he asks massaging her hand gently. "Very hungry." "Yeah me too, I ask Diana to bring back something for us to eat but if you can't wait that long I can go get you something now." "I think you should, I don't think I can wait until they get here." She said rubbing her stomach. "Okay, what do you feel for?" "Um…I want milk treat biscuits and cheese and chocolate milk." "Alright, I'll be right back." He was about to leave when the nurse wheeled a cart into the room with a bowl of soup on it.
"It's time for you to eat something, Mrs. Maxwell." "That's just what I was thinking," Diane said trying to sit up. The nurse did a short examination; made sure she was comfortable then put the tray in front of her. "Your babies are doing much better Mrs. Maxwell but your pressure is still high, I'll be back to check on you in a little while." She smiled sweetly at Gabriel as she leaves and he smiled back at her then turn to see Diane scowling at him. "Stop it." He snaps pointing his finger at her. "That's the reason you're laying in that bed right now." He said in a stern tone.
"The reason I'm laying in this bed is that I didn't listen to you," Diane said her scowl growing deeper. "That's a part of it but the hurtful truth is that you don't trust me." "What're you talking about Gabriel of course I trust you." "No, you don't and that's because you keep looking at me like the man I was before and not the man I'm now."
"That's not true." She replied pouting her lips. "Isn't it, alright, let me ask you this, have I ever accuse you of been unfaithful to me?" "No." "Why do you suppose that is?" He asks crossing his arms. "Because you know that I'm not that kind of person Gabriel." "But I am; right?" "I didn't say that but you've to admit that it's a lot easier for you to cheat than it is for me."
He took a deep breath and ran his hands over his face. "I see, even though that means I would be committing adultery, that's the kind of person you think I am? Listen to me woman, I've never had a steady girlfriend before and I've never cheated on anyone before and I don't intend to start now. We both stood in front of God and vowed to be faithful to each other, I trust you a hundred percent to honor that vow and all I'm asking is that you trust me the same because a marriage without trust is destined to fail." He said folding his fingers in a fist as he fights to control his temper.
"Now seeing as though when we're together at home you accuse me of cheating at least three times a week, I know that you're going to drive yourself crazy in here thinking that as soon as I leave here I'll be going to another woman's bed but your health and the babies health depends on you trusting me right now, can you please do that for me?" He asks through clenched teeth.
Silent tears ran down her face as she pushed the tray away and nods her head. Taking the tray he put it back on the cart and went back and sat beside her, taking her hand in his he lock his fingers through hers and smiled as he placed his other hand on her stomach and felt the babies move.
"I love you, Diane, you, Jasmine, these unborn babies and your family means everything to me, baby girl, I was the one who chooses to give my life to God, I was the one who chooses to change, I also choose to marry you and now every day I choose to remain faithful to you, and I'll be damn if I don't sound like the devil right now with all these I this and I that. But listen I'm not saying that there's isn't temptations out there because there is, especially when they're practically throwing themselves at me but every morning that I wake up I make the choice to remain faithful to my wife and with the help of God I'll remain that way."
"Okay but I'm going to miss you tonight when you leave." She pouts. "No, you won't, because I'm not going home tonight." "But you just said that…." "I know what I said but I also know you very well, and you're going to be obsessed about it no matter what I say, so I think I'll stay right here." "Where are you going to sleep?" "On this chair." "Oh no you won't, I can't let you do that Gabriel." "It's my choice, not yours and there's nothing you can say to change my mind."
She was about to protest but he silences her with a hot passionate kiss. She moans deeply and wrapping her hands around his neck and gripping his hair she pulls him closer to her. "You two just never stop, do you?" Gabriel turns his head and saw Mike, Diane's two sisters, and Jasmine standing at the door. "Daddy's favorite hobby is kissing mummy," Jasmine said, giving Gabriel a goofy grin as she put a big bottle of water on the table beside her mother and they spend the next few minutes teasing Gabriel about kissing his wife. An hour later Gabriel left the hospital went home did a few laps in the pool then took a shower, Mike left as well but Jasmine and Diane's sisters stayed with Diane.
He was on his way back to the hospital when his phone rang, it was Diane, she told him that she still wanted her milk treat biscuits and cheese and her box of milk, so he stops and got them. With all the food she had in front of her she still wanted all this, he thought to himself and smile, shaking his head he pulls out of the supermarket parking lot. Her sisters took Jasmine home with them that night and he spends it with Diane.
The next morning he was so sore he could hardly stand up but it was worth it and he had no regrets; her sisters arrive with Jasmine, their children, and boyfriends the next afternoon, so Gabriel took that chance to go home and get some sleep. When he was going back that evening he took her laptop, mp3 player, and Apple iPod to her as she had requested along with a bunch of beautiful red roses. When he got there he found his wife very sad because she didn't get a chance to see the rest of the work that was done on the house, so when he and Jasmine return home that night they took photos of the entire house and send them to her laptop. She was amazed at how exquisite everything was and she couldn't wait to go home.
The next morning he took Jasmine to school the went and visit her; she was asleep when he got there so he sat by her bed and check his Emails, then a thought came to him; he wanted to take a glamour shot with her and Jasmine while she was still pregnant but how was he going to do that now that she was in the hospital.
He wasn't sure how to get it done, so he dialed the doctor's number, and when she answered, he told her his plan and she agreed to assist. A few minutes later Diane woke up and after she was examined and had her breakfast he told her of his idea and she too was excited to get it done so he told her that he would be going on the road to do some business and that he would be back with Jasmine as soon as school was over, so after giving her a long passionate kiss he left.
Later that afternoon he took Jasmine home so she could have a bath and change into one of her ridiculously expensive dresses to take her photo in; he then chooses the one Diane requested and secured it in a carrying case with the soft pumps to match; then after putting on one of his light blue Giorgio Armani suits they both went back to the hospital.
He helped her get ready and Doctor Simms transported them to a high-tech photo studio where their glamour shots were taken. Doctor Simms then took them back to the hospital. Diane got many visitors over the next couple of days; she was visited by Gabriel's Aunt, his friends, her two older sisters, and their children, pastor and a few of her church members and Josh's wife came about three times for the week. She hardly had any time alone with Gabriel except the nights that he spends with her, but even though her room had about two or three-person at any given time during the days, Gabriel still called her constantly throughout the day just to hear her voice.
Diane also got a little time to herself whenever the doctor or the nurse was examining her and she used that time to think about what Gabriel had said to her. Was she really looking at him like the person he was before and not the person he was now? She knew he had changed a lot and he really hadn't given her any reason to doubt him, so why was she so worried.
She had told him she would trust him because she really didn't see any reason not to, he was so patient, loving, and gentle and she also remembers him saying that without trust their marriage wouldn't work, and not being with Gabriel wasn't even an option for her. She loves him too much to lose him because of her insecurities. So she had made a decision that she would trust her husband the way he trusted her. A little easier said than done but she was willing to try
It was Monday afternoon again and Diane couldn't believe that ten whole days had passed already, she had a lot of visitors last week and by the looks of it, she would be having a lot this week as well. It wasn't visiting hours yet so only Gabriel was allowed to see her at the moment, he had taken Jasmine to school this morning then came to see her before heading to his meeting, he spends an hour with her then they prayed together before he left and now she was alone again.
She used the time to do a little Bible study after which she began looking at the photos of their house. Gabriel had done a really amazing job with it, she knew it was beautiful before but now it was simply breathtaking and to her greatest surprise he had bought three puppies, one Rottweiler, and two Dobermann, they were so adorable, too bad they weren't going to stay that way because from what she heard those breed of dogs were dangerous, which is exactly why Gabriel picked them, a little added security was what he called them.
Her sisters arrived a few hours later but Jasmine wasn't with them. "What have you done with my daughter?" Diane asks as they took a seat beside her. "Don't worry, she's at home with her dad, he's helping her with her homework, they'll be here soon," Diana assured her. "Soooo seeing as though they scheduled your delivery for very soon and the babies are still not positioned properly, I guess that means they'll have to do a C section?" Dana asks.
"Oh no, they won't!" Diane replied angrily. "I'm not doing a C section." "I don't think you have a choice, Mrs. Maxwell." The doctor said walking into the room. "I've already scheduled your delivery date for Monday afternoon." "Monday! Can't you delay it a little longer?" "To delay the birth of your babies any longer wouldn't be a wise idea, Mrs. Maxwell."
"Okay fine then, Monday it is, but I'm still not doing a C section." She said as the doctor examines her. "With the position of your babies a vaginal birth may not be possible Mrs. Maxwell." She said making a note on her pad after checking the baby's heartbeat. "Anything is possible with God," Diane said firmly. "Okay Mrs. Maxwell, I'll see you later, and hopefully by then you'll change your mind.' The doctor stated as she made another note on her docket and left the room. Dana waited until the doctor was out of the room before turning to Diane.
"Why're you so against a C section Diane?" "Because having a C section means they'll have to cut my belly do you know how unattractive that's going to be? Every time Gabriel and I make love he'll have to look at the scar." "Well, at least he won't forget what you went through to have his children." Diana comments. "No I won't do it, Gabriel is used to girls that look like models, do you think he wants to be stuck with a woman with a big ugly scar on her belly?" She snorts in disgust. "Well maybe he won't mind, after all, that man does love you girl," Dana said with a smile. "Yeah, but will he loves me with a big ugly scar on my belly?" She mumbles.
Gabriel was on his way to Diane's room when the doctor stopped him. "Mr. Maxwell, could I have a word with you please." Gabriel stops, ends the tenth incoming call from Karen since that afternoon, and turns towards her. Calling one of the nurses the doctor asks her to take Jasmine to her mother, she then asks Gabriel to come with her to her office. She steps in behind him and closes the door.
"Is there something wrong?" Gabriel asks as the doctor took a seat behind her desk. "The problem is your wife is refusing a C section and as I've explained before when it comes on to multiple births a vaginal delivery isn't always possible, and in your wife's case, it's really isn't possible, I was hoping you could talk some sense into her because I've scheduled her delivery for Monday afternoon and we are going to need her full corporation by then."
"Will you be using that injection you were talking about?" He asks. "Yes, the epidural, it's usually recommended for C sections because the mother will be able to remain awake and can hear their babies' first cry." She explains. "I remember you mentioning that the injection itself comes with a few risks." "Well there's always a risk when it comes on to giving an epidural but I can assure you she'll be fine but if she keeps refusing the C section the babies could go into distress and we really don't want that." "Okay, I'll speak to her and have this sorted out by Monday." "Okay then, I'll be in to check on her later."
After leaving the doctor's office he went straight to Diane's room, an hour later her sisters left with Jasmine because he had decided to spend the night, one of the doctors had taken pity on him and had given him a fold-out bed for him to rest on when he stayed with her. He waited until the doctor had finished her examination and as soon as she left the room he turned to his wife. "Baby girl, the doctor told me you're refusing the cesarean, why is that?" Diane chews on the inside of her mouth but didn't answer. "Come on baby girl, talk to me, what's wrong? Why don't you want to do this?"
"Because it's going to leave a big ugly scar on my belly and you may find it very unattractive, I just want to remain as I am and if I have a vaginal birth then I won't have any scars." Getting up he ran his fingers through his hair and walk to the window. "Wow, I don't think you could possibly make me sound any shallower than that." Diane's eyes widen in surprise. "No, you don't understand I don't think you're shallow, that's not what I meant, I just…." "For God's sake Diane." He hissed cutting her off. "You're laying there worrying that I'm going to be offended by a scar; a scar you received while trying to bring our children safely into this world and you don't think that makes me sound like a shallow person?" He asks angrily.
"I'm sorry Gabriel…..Please don't be angry at me…. I ….that wasn't what I mean, I just want to be perfect for you, that's all." "Walking back towards her he took her hand in his and massage it gently. "You are and will always be the perfect girl for me Diane but to tell the truth I'm a lot more hurt than angry right now, how could a thought like that even cross your mind?" He asks in disbelief. "I don't know… I'm sorry…. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings; it's just that you're used to being with beautiful women and I won't be if….."
"Stop! Just stop it; I don't want you to compare yourself to women who throw themselves at men because of their looks, you're better than that; none of them will ever mean what you mean to me; none, and I'm hurt, very hurt." He sneers coldly; he then took a deep breath and ran his hands over his face. "I'm also this close to having you committed to the psychiatric ward because trust me, there's something seriously wrong with you woman." He said shaking his head.
