Just like I told her to wait for me outside, she did and the moment I saw her, I tried to walk out of her thinking she didn’t see me, I didn’t notice she was running to catch up with me.
I didn't say a thing and I didn't push her, I was just helping after all.
The streets were so dark and silent, thanks to the street light. Truly if I had not agreed to go with her and if she had not asked, it was so dangerous, she might be kidnapped and I would be to blame.
Gee, why am I thinking that?
I sighed taking a secret glance at her, she was smiling walking by my side with her both hands held behind her back. I was probably escorting her now and none of us said a word since we started walking.
She led the way to her house and we stopped just a street opposite, she turned to me. "Thank you for your offer, I own you one" she said, I just stared at her. "Get going its cold out here" I said and she nodded stretching her hand formally for a hand shake.
"I'm April Connor, nice to meet you" it’s probably formal but God, this lady really got me. "Seth" I replied shaking her.
She nodded and turned leaving, I wondered why she didn't ask for my surname or something different, she was nowhere in sight so I headed straight to my apartment.
The next day was Tuesday 18 February, 2014, my parents’ Death Anniversary. They were buried that day. I still can't believe I couldn't move on. It was a year now losing them.
The next day, I took a full day excuse from my part time job saying I would be out for a while and I won't be coming around, I was allowed, I didn't even know where I was going to start from right now.
'Maybe I should get them their favourites before I go there, for offering at their grave.' I thought and left for the city shops.
My Mum had always loved roses so I bought a bunch for her and my sister; well she was just the normal girl I knew for some while. She actually loved chocolate then my father who we weren't in good terms because I'm a misanthropist, which was what my own father used to call me.
He never answered my greetings. I'm sure if he were to be alive and his with me, he'd blame me for Mum and Elena's death. What should I get him since I know nothing about he liked and what he didn’t like?
Maybe I'd buy him some books or no, I know nothing about him, Oh father, I whispered in my head tightening my fist so not to cry. It hurts so much in this heart of mine.
"Hey, we meet again" I heard a female voice say from behind me, that voice was so familiar; I turned to my left side where she stood. "What are you doing here?" I asked.
She shrugged "Just strolling out alone when I sighted you from outside. What are you using all this to do?" She asked pointing at my right hand.
"Don't get into a fight" I warned but she didn't answer just smiled at the books on the selves. "You love books?" She asked and immediately I was pissed off, I can't probably range my anger on her so I kindly left to pay what I picked and was heading out. She ran after me.
"Hey Wait!" She called running to catch up with me. I didn't stop but slowed my pace so she could walk by my side now.
"Where are you going?" She asked. Damn God, I've been chased by such a talkative little lady. She kept talking saying how much she wished to see the blossom tree bloom but my mind wasn't there until we finally reached the grave.
"Grave?" she asked, her voice was so low and faded.
"I don't want you stalking me lady, this is my parents’ grave" I answered before kneeling before the three graves, she didn't say a word after that so I thought maybe she has left but turning behind me, she just stood stocked, with her eyes widen and set on the grave.
I was curious of her reaction. "Are you okay?" I asked before I saw her dropped her head low. "I'm sorry" she quickly apologized.
I was amazed at first but then nodded and turned back to the grave, prayed for them then i dropped their offering except my father’s which I don't know anything about him so I dropped him a novel which I believe he would have appreciated if he was alive.
Not that they could ever see it again.
Done, I got up to leave; she held my hand with her grin smile. "There is a new eatery I'm eager to go to, would you mind coming along?" She asked.
"No, I will pass" I said taking my hand off her light grip but she held it back. "Maybe you'd calm down"
Of course I want to calm down a lot but how would an eatery calm me, I stared at her and tried to reason. Yes! Maybe at least I would calm down a little so I agreed to her request and she happily danced leading the way.
Indeed the eatery was new, I have never heard of it, the signboard says,
“welcome to Lisa’s paradise” it’s so big and wide, lots of people have started to launch it already. We entered, took a seat by the last end and she called up a waiter, ordered her dish and asked if I wanted something but I just asked for water which she objected with a straight face and ordered for me the same food she ordered for herself. “You need enough food in your system, you look kind of weird” she says but I didn’t take it as an offence at all.
Few minutes later, the waiter returned with our order and immediately she got hers, she prayed and then dug into it like some hungry lion. "It’s so delicious, go on have a taste of yours" she said and I nodded taking a mouthful, I could tell, it was nice.
"It’s nice right?"
I nodded and continued eating in silence, I could tell how focused she was while eating. While we were done eating she offered to pay because she dragged me along. I didn't argue or debate with her, she paid and we left walking side by side. She sighed happily.
"It was really nice coming along with you" she said.
"You did this to pay back for yesterday right?" I asked but she shook her head. "Not really, but in a way yes!" she answered giggling. It doesn't sound funny but she keeps laughing to her own stupidity. Great, I've been stuck with someone like her.
We finally reached her home, I stopped by the opposite street like the last time, to watch her go but she still stood beside me. "Aren’t you going home?" I asked.
"I'm happy you tagged along with me, there is somewhere else we can go" she grinned staring at me. Shit! I thought it was only for a day.
"I know you like books and there is a nice library at the city, so come let's go check okay?"
I need to get rid of this girl. "Fine" I agreed with a sigh. "Yayyyy, I will wait for you at the new eatery we went today so don't be late okay." She said running as she wave at me, I just stood there waiting until she entered her house.
'I've become a protector overnight huh' thinking of it made me smile.
