Chapter 7

Once Seelan, Shiras, Gita came back from the lab, Seelan immediately arranged a meeting with all his officers. The case has officially hit the roof and if they don't nab this guy soon; Seelan's gut feeling says that they may have another body soon.

"Okay team", Seelan starts, “this case is more complicated than we expected". " He finishes as he runs up a PowerPoint slide that shows the photographs that Meena had to send him earlier.

"From what we had observed; the killer used a heavy object to hit the victim's head repeatedly. In addition to that, cuts are made to the femur bone. There are three on each leg. The toxicology report shows that the suspect used an anticoagulant to prevent the blood from clotting and then used a Tranexamic acid-filled injection to get the blood to stop flowing".

"But, sir, tranexamic acid is a medical chemical. It is impossible to get that unless the person has a prescription for it." A voice piped up. Seelan turned his attention to the direction of the voice that spoke in the middle of his presentation. The voice belongs to Harjun, a junior detective. Seelan shot him a smile. He always enjoyed receiving input from Harjun. Just like Shiras and Gita, he too was a competent police officer. Even though his only con is being a bit of an introvert; his knack for picking up hints people usually miss out on made him a plus on his team.

"You are right, Harjun. This chemical is hard to get and even over the counter prescription provides only tablet forms. Now I want y'all to see this picture." Seelan says as he too sucked in his breath and held in his anticipation.

He pressed play and the next presentation slide showed a small object being covered around some sort of fabric. Except that object was a heart and that fabric was the victim's face sewed to the heart with black thread to keep it together.

His entire team let out gasps of shock and disgust, further solidifying the fact that there is only so much they can take. Seelan quickly ends the slide show as he preps himself to give out a speech. Shiras could almost feel the righteousness oozing out of his chief. As much as he did admire it he had to admit it was becoming a bit of an eyesore.

"Team, so far this is what we got out of the forensic team. Just a gruesome murder with no lead nor suspects. The bastard even managed to not get a single fingerprint on the victim. I don't have to tell you guys that we are on a tight schedule. The media and the public will eventually need answers and we need to give them. Hence I want y'all to pull all the resources you can we have to nab this guy." Seelan expressed.

After getting mumbles of "yes sirs" from his team he nods at them as a signal to go off. Seelan then made his way to Gita, Shiras and Harjun to see what they had gathered up.

"We have called down his wife sir. I will stay here to talk to her, meanwhile, Shiras and Harjun will go to his office and talk to his staff and board holders." Gita said; feeling the tension radiating off her uncle. Seelan gave his approval nod and the team split up.

Gita made her way to the interrogation room where Mrs Chan was sitting. She walked in and the strong smell of perfume made her pinch her nose to prevent her from being overwhelmed by it. She saw a middle-aged woman in clothes that would cost more than a month's worth of pay. The quiet sniffles the lady was making were filling up the room and from the puffiness of her eyes, Gita could tell she had been crying for some time now. Gita slowly made her way towards the lady and sat down. The lady, who was facing the table, slowly lifted up to meet her. Gita's heart broke. There was this woman, in front of her, who had lost her husband, and the fact she was going to break the horrible news of his passing broke Gita's heart even more. But due to the nature of her job she swallowed all of her empathy and proceeded to do her job.

"Mrs Chan, I am so sorry for your loss," she begins with the usual cliche sentence. Mrs Kim just sniffled her nose. Gita gulped before continuing, "We called you in today to fill you in on what we have gathered but first I do need to know a bit about you and Mr Chan. Is that okay ?" Mrs Chan nodded wearily, indicating that she understands and gives consent.

Gita nodded in return and pulled out a clipboard with a confession form and a tape recorder to record the witness statement.

Gita heaved a sigh as she began the first question.

"So Mrs Chan, how long have you and Mr Chan been married?"

Mrs Kim wiped her nose before turning to Gita. "He and I had an arranged marriage. Our families were a bit old school and wanted to keep the old money within our status hence they thought it was the best idea. I couldn't object to it as I was young and was always taught to respect elders. " She finishes.

Gita raises her eyebrow slightly. It was sort of expected that rich people will always be rich people. They will always care more about their status than their family and even though this lady in front of her is being raw and showing her emotions, she is still from a rich family, there are just certain rules to them than to others.

She snapped out of the thought process and nodded, signalling that she was paying attention to her. She clears her throat and straightens her posture. "Mrs Chan, it would be helpful if you could give some inside of your marriage. " Gita stated wearily. Mrs Chan sucked in her breath before continuing, "I can't say we were happily married. But we were cordial with each other. As a dutiful wife I did everything for him. to keep him happy. But I know deep down, I was never enough for him. " She says as she shifts her gaze. This caught Gita's attention. Rich men are very much known to keep affairs. Sometimes with the wives knowledge. With Mrs Kim tone and choice of words, could Mr Kim be of the same?

Mrs Chan must have read her mind as she continued. "There are days he would come back late; it first started as once a week, slowly it started as three times a week and before I knew it, he started to see and sleep with other women. He even had a few sugar babies. I tried my best to be a good wife to him. But I could tell I am not what he wants. Hence I didn't push for anything and just let him have it."

Gita's eyes widened. Finally a breakthrough. Maybe this case could be a scorned lover's case or a mistress's attempt at becoming rich. She tries to contain herself from coming up with possible theories and decides to prompt more. "Mrs Chan, if you are comfortable with sharing this information, I am assuming you may know who he frequently visits and where." She enquired. Mrs Kim, unfortunately, shook her head. "I am so sorry but no. I am only aware of the affairs but never the people nor the bar he visits. But you can ask his colleagues." Mrs Kim exclaimed.

Just as Gita's felt deflated, Mrs Chan sparked up as she said, "Ah yes, Mr Alvin Ng, you can ask him. He was practically my husband's right hand. He helps him with anything that includes the affairs as well."

Gita bit back her smile as she thanked Mrs Chan and allowed her to go. She quickly grabs her phone and dials Shiras to share the news.
