Chapter 8

Shiras got the call from Gita right as Harjun pulled up to the Late Mr Chan company. "Mhm, okay, thanks, Gita, keep me posted, yeah?" Shiras said as he ended the call.

Harjun switched off the engine as he turned to face Shiras. He was not a big fan of Shiras. Despite Shiras being a great officer, there was this superficiality to him that puts Harjun off. Shiras ended the call and Harjun raised his eyebrow as a signal to ask what the call was about. Shiras lets out a laugh before answering his partner's doubt.

"Turns out Mr Chan has had several affairs. Gita thinks it could be one of them who did this." Shiras explained. "Even better, a board member named Mr Ng helped him out in handling this." He added. Harjun nodded his head and got out of the car.

Shiras and Hajrun made their way towards a grimly white building. As they stepped inside they were stopped by the receptionist who proceeded to let them in after explaining their job. The two men were sitting in a boardroom that oversees the rest of the buildings that were situated at City Hall.

After interrogating a string of board members, the two men finally met the famous Mr Ng. The door opened and a loud “Hey!” was heard to introduce Shiras and Harjun to Mr Ng. Shiras and Harjun looked at him and looked at each other; both were aware of exactly what type of man Mr Ng was.

Just like how there is a teacher's pet; there would always be someone in the corporate world who is willing to do anything to get on the good side of the bosses which was what Mr Ng was. Mr Ng, despite being a board member, was a company partner to Chan Limited and even started up a company under them. This meant that being on Mr Chan's good side was vital for his survival. Thus, he was the one who encouraged Mr Chan affairs and even set up a couple of them. Despite knowing about Mr Chan's private life; he still complied and did the acts to be in Mr Chan's good books.

Although; that's exactly what would lay him in trouble today.

"Good Afternoon gentlemen, so nice to meet y'all!" A chirpy voice greeted both Hajrun and Shiras. Harjun gave back a tight-lipped smile while Shiras bore a Cheshire grin. Whenever Shiras smiled like that; it was clear that it was not a genuine smile but rather, an insulting one to the unsuspecting victim.

"Mr Ng, nice to meet you. And thank you for making time to join us." Harjun replied. As much as he admired Shiras capabilities in solving crimes he is not one to possess mannerisms nor the type of being cordial. "Yes, we heard a lot about you and were expecting you. " Shiras added, still wearing a smile.

Mr Ng let out a laugh as he wavered his hands at him. "Oh please, gentlemen it is I who should thank you. Mr Chan was a respectable man. Aside from that, he was a good person and a good boss. To learn he was murdered and dumped like an unnamed corpse is disheartening to hear for everyone today. I will do whatever I can to help you " Mr Ng mentions as he feigns sadness.

Harjun rolled his eyes. People like Mr Ng are needed. Without their filial piety; people's egos can't be sustained. And people who feed into other people's egos also feed into the need of feeling they are important. It's an endless loop. First, it was with Mr Chan, now it's with them.

"That's great to hear Mr Ng. Your support is deeply appreciated. Now we are gonna just ask some questions about you guys and that day, okay ?" Harjun asked. Mr Ng nodded his head in agreement and Harjun let out a sigh as he turned the tape recorder on.

"So Mr Ng, explain to me about your relationship with Mr Chan." Harjun begins. "Mr Chan and I were friends in University. My father was a board member in this company and I took his place after his passing. As we were friends for a long time it always felt more personal than professional working together. " Mr Ng explained.

Hajrun nodded as Shiras proceeded to ask, "Tell us about the company you started under him."

Mr Ng smiled before answering. "Despite being a board member I wanted to have something on my own. When I broached that topic with Chan, he was interested in wanting to be a partner with me. So I open a company under him and he was my first partner as he invested in my company."

After learning the history between Mr Ng and Mr Chan, Harjun decided to ask about that day.

When Harjun asked about that day; the usual jovial demeanour Mr Ng possessed suddenly vanished. Mr Ng starts fidgeting in his seat and his eyes start to dart all across the room.

Shiras studies his composure and raises his eyebrow. He tilted his head a little back and bit back the smile that was going to form on his lips. This case was a lot deeper than he thought.

"So Mr Ng, back to the question, what happened that day?" Shiras prompted the question again.

"Well um, it was like every other day; you know how corporate people work. " Mr Ng replied curtly.

Shiras smiled widened, his cockiness was practically vibrating, Harjun could feel it bouncing off. He heaved out a sigh; fully aware of how Shiras was about to make this man sweat.

"No Mr Ng, we are police officers. Corporate isn't our forte." Shiras challenged. Mr Ng shot him a look that would have murdered him if it was possible. Whatever positive disposition Mr Ng had was completely worn off and it became obvious, he knows something.

"Listen, gentlemen, I woke up, went to the office, met Mr Chan for lunch and dinner and that's it. I know of nothing else." Mr Ng replied coldly.

"So, you have no clue that Mr Chan went to a club and he didn't go home after it?" Harjun piped up.

"Nope. I don't know anything about it." Mr Ng expressed.

"That's weird. We heard rumours that you go often to the club. In fact, you helped him held some out of company meetings for him. " Shiras taunted.

Mr Ng shot his head up with his eyes glaring at the both of them. Suddenly he stands up, clearly radiating with anger, "Listen, gentlemen, I have answered your questions, I will not answer anymore without my lawyer present and I sure as hell will not address some cheap rumours you hear. Goodbye" he said and left in a huff

Shiras and Hajrun looked at each other; what are they going to explain to their boss now
