Mae slowly sat up and rubbed at her eyes with a groan. She didn't need to open them to know it was morning, the smell of the air and rising heat told her that.

"He brought you back to the camp before he left," Baas said, offering her a steaming mug.

"Thanks," she replied, taking the mug from him. "Sorry if he woke you."

"He didn't. I was worried when you didn't return and went looking. He found me well before I found either of you," he explained as she ran her fingers over the collar of the Nimaro's cloak, which was now resting over her legs. "I offered to carry you back. He refused. Given how adamant he was about not coming to the camp, I found it a bit strange."

Mae looked over at him with a wary eye. There was an air of contempt in the way he was speaking, sounding almost accusatory in nature.
