The Calm Before

~Chapter 82~

When Baas arrived with Mae at Nimaro's temple, he went to take her through to the room at the back farthest from the entrance. Her hands wouldn't stop shaking when they weren't clutched to something or someone, and the air felt poisonous, every breath causing her throat to constrict and her lungs to burn. Every part of her felt weak and broken. Voices were distant and the world shifted unnaturally around her, the contents of her stomach demanding to be purged.

"I'm going to be sick," she warned Baas, who carried her to the nearest relief closet instead.

No sooner had her feet touched the floor, when she relived her earlier dinner in reverse. Wiping her mouth, she pushed opened the door with her foot. The floor was comfortable and the entire room smelled of a strong cleanser.

"Feel better?" Baas questioned from the hall.
