Father, Daughter, Sons

~Chapter 91~

Mae's heart throbbed with a combination of guilt and anxiety. She wanted answers but no longer felt they were as urgent to have as she'd made them out to be. Clarity had come through her own advice. Wanting nothing more than for Ven and Baas to find the camaraderie they'd once shared, reminded herself that the past couldn't be changed.

Mae was already emotionally drained, exhausted from the journey and longing for her bed, in her house; now answers were waiting. Karanosi had come, because she'd ask it of him, a privilege so few others had, and the thought that she had wanted to berate him, tore at her, clawing away at the inside of her chest playing her ribs like a xylophone. Exiting the house with Ven and Baas behind her, they found Karanosi, in his smaller form, dressed in a simple robe, petting a wiggling and drooling mound of excitement, Hidai having already come to greet him.
