Mae giggled, tossing the money into her bag without giving it a glance. She could have cared less about the payment Xial had given to her.  She had seen a hint of a smile, gleamed the sight of his satisfaction, and that was more than payment enough.


"I am truly flattered that you like it. I knew you would appreciate it. You have an eye for details and quality, which makes me wonder why the Viscero was sent to greet us. He's a sweet man, but he wouldn't know a well from a hole in the ground. He couldn't see the value until he was told how to find it."


"Is that why you brought a second one?"


Mae turned away. She wasn't certain how he figured it out, but since he knew, she saw no reason to hide it. Retrieving the second mask from her bag, she pulled it from its package and showed it to him.
