The world stood still as Xial's fingers quaked against the textured fabric of Mae's robe; her hand holding his in place over her heart. His eyes, like steel ball-bearings, growing wider as he fixated on their connection.


"Your heart," he muttered the words, breathless from the weight of them, and the truth they carried.


He swallowed, harshly, as he pulled his hand away; turning it over to stare down at his palm.


"But how? How could you be here? Sah'Korhune is a closed planet, only…" His eyes shot up, his mouth hanging open. "You said Karanosi warned you?"


"I did. He's Kyurn's father, and he's the one that brought me here."


"What was he thinking? He should have sent you back!"
