~Chapter 147~

As Mae moved into the room, she was taken by the soft blue glow emanating from the octagonal platform in the center of it, and the circular apparatus extending up over it. She hadn't seen anything else like it in the Quarter and in an attempt to gain some context, broke her gaze away and began to look around.

Along the wall, to the left of the door, was a shelving unit filled with bins and boxes. A second unit, filled the same, sat in the corner and stretched a couple of feet along the outer wall, butting up against the edge of a workbench, worn with age and rigorous use, the top scratched, gouged and marred into an uneven surface with a rounded lip, the corners, where not broken or chipped, the only remaining evidence of the once squared edge. Above the bench, a rack of tools, saws, chisels, and hammers, were the only immediately recognizable items to Mae, and below were drawers, some shallow, others deep.
