Chapter 2: New life 2

Cassandra was now a newly graduate student of secretariat course. It really did not mean much to her as it only meant for her to once again enter the society as an addition to the workforce. Though she has to admit she was a little excited at the future she will have as a working adult. Her previous life does not really allow her to be a real functional adult in society.

Now as a new graduate she has to find a job as fast as she can. She heard if she does not get a job before the next batch of graduates joins the market her chances at getting a job will get slimmer than it already was. A sad reality is that even if the chances of having a good job is open to all of those qualified, it does not mean that you will find a job that truly suits the things you spent years studying with.

To be honest her parents are not in a hurry to make her find a job. They say she is still young and they can still support her. But only because she doesn't feel like being a freeloader. Stubbornly she printed out her resume and sent it to various companies in hopes of being called for an interview.

But so far there has been no call on her phone since she sent them out. Knowing that the competition is hard these days, she somehow understands that she somehow fails at them if she does not receive any calls. She has to admit that she is a little disappointed at her attempts to be independent and not so successful, it really just showcases that life here is really hard.

At times like this, she misses the convenience her rank back then provides her. As a duke's daughter despite being a cursed one, her life was not really so hard that she had to get a job to live well. Her standing in life only requires her to not shame her family name by not showing her face in public unless necessary.

She only became a maid to the prince because she wanted it back then. Though she has to admit being a maid of the prince brought her satisfaction as well as proving that she could be somehow normal, the pay as a royal servant to a royal was hefty to say the least. She remembered how her vault had grown so much back then.

Though even if she did not go to work for her prince, she enjoys a special status to whoever she will work with should she choose someone else to serve. For one even if she will not have the best pay, she will never be a subject of abuse or mistreatment. Her family will not stand blindly if something happens to one of their own.

Second, she was the priority of most employers back then. Jobs come flying to her as if she somehow graces them with her employment. They enjoy some honour of someone of her status in their midst. So she never gets the hassle of searching for a job like she does now.

"Hey Cassy!" Alexia said as she pounced at Cassandra behind. In her raven haired glory and sky blue eyes, she hugged the startled girl from behind.

"Hi Alexia!" Cassandra said as she returned the girl's hug with her own. "What are you doing here?"

"Well I was bored and Serio is being boring as he always was." Alexia pouted as she mentioned their other friend.

Accustomed to how the two get along with each other, Cassandra what happened between them now. She remembered that the two had some argument last week and had just reconciled yesterday. She really did not expect that the two would once again get in a fight right after they got better.

"He does not want to accompany me with my new work." Alexia is whining now as she narrates how mean the boy was in his rejection. He could have just said no and not been so vicious with his words. She can understand if he did that.

"Although I understand his refusal, I condone his way of handling your request." Cassandra frowned as she digested the words said by the boy. "I have a talk with him later on about this."

Alexia cheered at Cassandra's siding with her and hugged her tightly.

"Easy now. You'll break my ribs with how tight you're holding me." Cassandra tapped the girl's shoulder to indicate her pain. She is also feeling some shortness of her breathing with how the others hold her so much.

"Oops! Sorry about that." Alexia immediately removed her arms and stuck out her tongue out of habit. "I got carried away"

"You always get carried away." Cassandra rubbed her ribs for a quick measure to see if there is anything unusual on them. For a girl Alexia has always been strong that she is not surprised if she won a gold medal in olympics should she choose to be an athlete rather than an actress.

"Well nothing can be done about that." Alexia only grins on that and looks at Cassandra with renewed fervor. "You're not busy with anything now?"

"Does sending my resumes to companies count?" Cassandra said as she showed the girl the emails she is in the process of making.

Alexia glances at them for a while before deciding that it's not worth the headache to see them.

"I have a very brilliant idea that you are not allowed to refuse." Alexia shut the laptop of the other and brought the girl to the sofa in the living room instead of the dining room they are in. She never understood why Cassandra always finds comfort in the dinning more than any other place in the house. It was almost like a sacred place to her that she was obsessed with staying there.

In Cassandra's defense, the dining area was her refuge back in the days. As long as she is there most people will try to not rile her with words or anything. And when she served the prince, the dining was the place where they spent most time together other than the gardens. So this part of the house is special to her more than anything else.

"Please tell me it does not involve me accompanying you to where you will be. Coming with you is nice and all, but the people you work with are not the nicest people to be around with you know?" Cassandra pleaded to not be swept along with the other as she remembered her last experience accompanying Alexia. She thought that the thing with fake smiles and intents were only a thing in the past. But the other's workplace was proven that things only evolved into something more than the politics during a ball was tamer than she remembered it was. Though the one here is less life threatening than back then, it feels unnerving to be in there for so long.

"Well I admit that most of us in the circle are not the nicest people, things are not as bad as you think they are." Alexia was optimistic as she said this.

"The amount of work injuries I see due to some petty fight in the dress room is far from convincing me to believe otherwise." Cassandra rebuted quite calmly. "I remember that the starlet was no longer around after the incident. I just hope you know what you are doing."

"That one was an accident though." Alexia sounded unsure at her reply. Sure enough she is not lying to anyone about the darker side of her work. "The director has assured me that something like that will not happen anymore. Besides, the one I will be with this time is not with Angela, so such things are not going to happen again."

Cassandra is not convinced. She only looks at the other evenly with her eyes. Gossips she heard during the rare times she came over is enough to let her know that even if Angela is not around, there are other stars who are on par or worse than her. Hasty her generalization was, she does not like the system the current entertainment circle has.

"Come on Cassy! Don't be like that." Alexia pouted as she tried to make an appeal with her friend. "I don't want to go alone there. My assistant is off for a month to have her surgery and my agent has other people to check in on me. Serio and I are in a cold war at the moment for him to accompany me. I hope you'll not turn me away from this."

"But I have to continue sending these resumes. I also have my own life to worry about. I can't always accompany you in places that I should not even be at." Cassandra felt bad saying this, but she really has to say it face to face with the other.

"I know that." Alexia felt guilty. "But I really need someone to accompany me, you know? My parents are rushing me to not succeed on the path I made and want me to return home and get married to the man of their liking. I don't want that life, Cassy. This will be the last time I will impose you this much. I have to somehow get some fame in this show before I fade out of the public eye."

Cassandra could only sigh at Alexia as she knew the girl's circumstances. She suppose she has nothing to lose going with her. But she will make sure that she is not losing more than her time in this bargain.

"You better pay for my data if I'm coming with you. If I receive a call from any of the companies I sent my resumes with, I'm leaving you alone there." Cassandra gave out her compromise straightforwardly.

"Deal! I'll even pay for your food and accomodation if needed too." Alexia beamed.
