Time to make a cake

"Divinity... divinity itself really isn't all that special." Hessian's spoke out loud as he sat back on the surface of the abyss, staring up at the nothingness above.

To his side, was a young 7 year old Wave. His eyes were empty, seemingly devoid of any life. His body didn't move an inch as he layed next to his father. There wasn't even any movement on his chest, indicating that he obviously wasn't breathing. Yet he was undoubtedly alive.

Hessian paused for a moment before continuing. "Having divinity does not automatically make you powerful, nor would it give you godlike powers. Like all other forms of energy, you must train yourself to harness it. Although like all things, there are exceptions like people being able to use it instinctively."

Despite his son not even showing any sign that he was even registering his words, Hessian had continued to routinely speak to his broken son each day. The topics would generally always be random or whatever was on his mind, but he hoped some of his knowledge would aid his son in his future endeavors when he finally regained clarity of mind.

"Like mortals, you can find all different kinds of gods. They are not all necessarily strong, nor are they all knowing, you could even find completely powerless deities who are not much different from a regular person. It really depends, but you do not need divinity at all for god-like abilities. In fact divinity itself is just another affinity. The only interesting thing that could be gained from it is an authority, but most people don't realize that you don't need divinity for an authority over something. It's merely a path that you could take."

One would think that he would eventually run out of topics to talk about, but Hessian never ran out of things over the years of blabbing to his unmoving son.

"Demi-gods usually find their bodies with higher capabilities than average humans to various degrees. It generally differs, and there are cases where a demi-god will find themselves with no increase in physical abilities compared to regular people. Similar results would occur if one were to use any other form of energy, like having a regular mortal pumped with magical energy. So divinity itself is not that special, R.O.Bs on the other hand are a different story." Finishing his little spiel, he blinked for a moment before turning to his unresponsive son.

He stared at the boy for a moment before humming."Hm... speaking of which. Should you ever want to become a R.O.B. here's a hint. Divinity and ultimate power is not the answer." he finished with a wink.

A couple months had passed since Wave found himself with not much to do. He was planning on starting his journey through realities after his 16th birthday.

'Where to start...' Wave thought to himself as he was lying on the cold surface of the waters of the abyss.

Although the abyss was a place he was forced to stay in for most of his life, it still felt like home to him. He had a room on the Onyxia but it just didn't give him the same sense of comfort.

"Waooaaaooooouu" He turned to the whale like hum that surfaced to his side. The reason it sounded like a whale was because, it really was a whale, an abyssal whale.

"Don't worry, I won't be gone forever. I'll be sure to visit." I rubbed the tip of it's snout that was poking out of the waters.

This is Furious Blache, supposedly I had made him and 8 other ghosts when I was still a broken shell of a person. They were a collective of countless souls refined into nine beings that became 'ghosts' is what I call them. Blache was the seventh ghost I created, although I don't have any real memory of making him. Perhaps I was trying to fill in the void of loneliness, but then again I didn't feel anything back then so who knows. I don't even know how I know it's name or why it's got 'Furious' in it's name when it's a pretty chill whale.

I'm not even sure if Blache is a whale or not. He's got pulsing blue light for eyes with cracks arcing outwards from it. His body looks like it's got a layer of rocks on the front half of his body and the other half is clearly made from solidified souls. His fins on the sides and top of his head have similar cracks except instead of emitting blue light, it emits a purple light similar to eridium.

The rest of the Nine generally kept to themselves and spread out to different corners of the abyss. However Blache traveled around the whole place, and liked checking on me from time to time. Kind of like a dog that wanted to play around.

[Master Wave, your parents are calling you.] I heard Onyx inform me.

Guess it's time, this is gonna be the first birthday I've had outside of this place."Alright, I guess I have plenty of time to think about things. Later Blache." I waved as it communicated to me with whale noises before submerging within the sea of anguished souls.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" Wave covered his ears the moment he stepped out of the portal. Although having his ears ringing from shouts would normally be annoying, he smiled nonetheless.

Streamers popped out from his family's hands into the air. He looked around the place and blinked in slight surprise at his surroundings.

"Woah..." he muttered in awe at the forest-like area. He hadn't really had any chance to travel around the past year since he was always busy with odd jobs from his sister. This was the first time he had ever seen such a lush area full of life and nature.

"Welcome to the New World! Well, atleast that's what it will be known as in the future when people come here." His father said with some dramatic flare with his arms spread out. Then he began muttering things under his breath shortly after.

"Hessian dear, you're doing it again." Ereshkigal patted his back to get his attention.

"Oh right, my bad. Well then, Happy 16th birthday and welcome to the Ancient Forest!" He snapped his fingers, getting back on topic. "This is probably your last official birthday celebration because let's be honest, celebrating birthdays afterwards just starts to become depressing as you-GAH" He was cut off by a bullet bouncing off the side of his head.

"Dad, enough depressing shit." Amber said with a bland look directed towards him.

Wave looked at his family's interaction with a smile as they hadn't all been together in a long while. "Is... is that a dinosaur!?" Wave exclaimed pointing over at the small looking monster.

Hessian glanced over to the side. "Oh yeah, Aptonoths. No worries, they're herbivores." He waved away his concerns.

"Aptonoth...Ancient Forest.... Where have I heard these from..." Wave muttered out lout for a moment as the gears in his head continued to turn. "Oh shit were in Monster Hunter!"

"Correct! Now for your birthday celebration, I figure we could work together to make you a cake!"

"...Were making a cake?" Wave tilted his head in confusion.

"Well it was either this or heading to the beach. Unfortunately your Mother was afraid I would be too distracted by other females so this is what were doing." His father shrugged with a 'What can you do?' kind of look as his mother gave him an unimpressed look.

"Now, let's split up and procure the ingredients! It'll be boys vs girls! Whoever gets their list finished first wins!" Hessian declared ignoring his wife's half lidded stare.

"Hold up, before we start. Happy Bday Wave." Amber held out a wrapped rectangular box towards him.

"Thanks." He smiled as he unwrapped the box. Breaking apart the box, it revealed itself to be "A shotgun?" He blinked as he examined the firearm.

The stock handle was made of an unidentifiable wood that was smoothed down to the grain. At the end of it was a skull that had dim light emitting from the eyes. On the barrel was an A-Tech symbol with a switch lever beneath the trigger. There was an axe underneath the muzzle with blue arcing lines spread from the blade. Overall it reminded him of Frost Fang from Killing Floor 2.

"That's because I based it off that." His sister said, making him realize that he just said that out loud. Ignoring his moment of embarrassment, she continued on with a lecturer's pose. "This is a mystic code I worked on myself. The wood is made from a dead tree deity that pissed me off while the metal of the barrel and axe was forged from netherworld steel." She explained as her brother wondered what unfortunate tree god made her mad.

"It has two firing modes that can be switched with the lever, the first mode fires custom-made armor-piercing rounds with the bullets bearing a core made from angelic essence. While the second mode fires a condensed shell of energy gathered from the netherworld, please note that the blast radius will always be 100 ft. You can fire as long as you want in the first mode, while the second mode requires at least a 10 second charge time." She finished her explanation as wave seemed to be excitedly playing with his new shotgun/axe after thanking her.

"My turn!" Ereshkigal pulled out a cloak from nowhere that seemed to match her own. "I made you a cloak in case you ever got cold! If you don't like the red color, then you can invert it to be black." The cloak looked like a carbon copy of the one his mother wore all the time.

Wave put on the cloak despite some reservations. It felt silky smooth and weightless, it was obvious his mother put a lot of work into making it. "Thanks mom, although I'm not sure if I can wear it all the time considering cloaks look out of place in modern settings." He liked it, but was unsure if he could wear it all the time.

"Oh don't worry I thought of that, which is why it can turn into a scarf too!" With a snap of the finger, the cloak turned into a long scarf.

"Huh, neat." he whistled. He turned over to his father who hadn't given his gift yet.

Noticing his gaze, Hessian winked "I'll give you my present later. For now let's make that cake!" he declared as the men and women split up to find ingredients.

"Dad, why aren't we just grabbing the egg?" Wave asked his father as they were crouched down under some rock formations, hidden from sight. He was confused, because he was pretty sure his dad could kill everything on this planet with just a thought.

They needed eggs and for some reason his father had decided on Rathian eggs. Sure the big green wyvern was intimidating, but it's not like they couldn't take it down if it shows up.

"Silly Wave, there's no fun to be had in just solving all your problems with power. Trust me, it gets old fast." His father explained casually as they continued to hide. Instead of staying in the ancient forest, they had moved to the Wildspire Wastes.

"Well, what exactly are we waiting for? The Rathian seems to be out right now." Wave asked as they had the perfect chance to take the eggs right now.

"Shh..." Hessian raised up a finger as something approached the nest.

'A Kulu Ya Ku?' Wave thought as he recognized the bird-like grounded wyvern. The monster walked up to the eggs silently. He was surprised that the smaller monster would choose a Rathian's nest to steal from.

*ROAR sfx* A screeching roar was heard from above as the mother Rathian soared down with fury. Realizing that it had been found out, the Kulu Ya Ku grabbed an egg and hot-footed it out there with the Green-scaled wyvern in pursuit.

"And now we get a couple easy eggs." His father declared as they moved to grab an egg each.

Overall it was a fun day.
