Chapter 61: The Luna Who Cried Wolf

Everything was stagnant.

“Hello, Waverly,” he said.

“Christopher…”

“It’s Chris, remember? We don’t need to be so formal. We did almost kill one another.”

Waverly’s throat felt constricted. Was this truly happening? Were the Donovans telling the truth?

“What are you doing here?”

Christopher smirked. “That’s a great question,” he said, taking a few steps forward towards her. “But I’m technically not in Trinity Mountains, am I?”

Waverly’s fists balled together at his sly tone. Was it all a game to him? Did he get some sick pleasure out of what he had done? Always tiptoeing the lines of boundaries, but smart enough to not fully dip his toes in the deep end.

“What do you want?” she asked assertively, hoping to show the confidence she was currently lacking.

“Who said I want anything?”

“Why else would you risk your life showing up here?” Waverly pushed.

“Am I really here though?”
