Chapter 77: Proceed with Caution

Waverly blinked her eyes. It was just an illusion—fake. Nothing about it was real. Only, when she kept blinking and the figure remained, she was less and less able to convince herself.

Pietro stood still, but fear consumed his eyes. “You need to stop him.” His voice was dark and husk, and Waverly sat frozen in her spot, completely paralyzed. “You can’t let him go.”

Waverly’s mouth was dry, and it took all her strength to find some piece of her voice. “I—P—Pietro…? You’re not—you’re not real. You’re…dead.”

Pietro continued as if he had not heard her. “He can’t go down there—Sawyer, if he goes, he will confront great danger.”

At this, Waverly’s reflexes clicked in, and it was like her entire body broke free of the chains of fear and switched into gear. “Danger? What kind of danger?”

“A danger so great, it will place all at risk. But only you can stop it. You hold the power to end it all.”
