I feel like I'm secured

I'm at home cleaning my dishes when my phone rang in the kitchen. The caller's name was Sugar.

"Hello?" I answered, putting the phone between my shoulder and ear as I continue my dishes.

"Are you busy?" He asked in his bedroom voice.

"It's 2 pm and you're still sleeping?"

"It's my day off, I can the whole day if I want to."

"Then why don't you sleep and not bother me today. You called me first." I rolled my eyes and held my phone with my hand since I'm done with my dishes.

"That's what I'm calling you for if you could stop nagging for one sec." I heard him shuffle out of his bed through the phone.

I didn't respond and wait for him to talk.

"Jimin called and asked to drink with him and friends. Are you free later?"

"Jimin? The cute one?" I asked excitedly. "Okay, I'll come."

"What? Yes, anyway I'll pick you up and send me the address of your place."

"Nah, I'll just come with my bike and tell me where we're drinking."

He sighed, "no, no one will be able to get you home if you're drunk."

"Why? What are we drinking?" I asked.

"I've known Jimin for 5 years now, and who knows what drinks he'll be serving. So, heads up."

I rolled my eyes, "okay. I'll just send you my address."

"Good, you should listen to me more often, shorty."

"Says the one who's not short when you stand next to Seok Jin and Namjoon." I rebutted.

He chuckled on the other line, "See you soon."

After hanging up, I got up and prepared for a shower. Although before I entered, I sent him my address before I forget. Then, after showering, I put on my robe and stared at my wardrobe. I picked up some black cargo jeans, a black oversized shirt, and a sock.

When I was done dressing, I was about to blowdry my hair when I heard my doorbell ringing.

I glanced at the clock and it's only about 5 in the afternoon. I pushed the button answer, "Who is it?"

"It's me." Says the familiar voice.

"Aren't you too early to pick me up?"

"The place we're going is about an hour away, that's why I picked you up early."

"Okay, come in. I don't want anyone's seeing you down there." I pushed a button to open the apartment door downstairs and told him my apartment number. A few minutes later he knocked, and I opened the door to greet the pale man standing in all black outfit, sporting a black bucket hat, mask, oversized black shirt and a short.

"Who's funeral are we going to attend?" I asked.

He knocked my forehead with his knuckles. "Don't say that."

"I'm just kidding, relax." I said as I let him in. Once he's inside my little apartment, he went straight to the sofa and I could see his eyes looking around.

I picked up my towel and continued to dry my hair.

"Don't you have any hairdryer?" He asked.

"No, I don't. What's wrong with the towel anyway?"

"I'll get you one tomorrow." He rolled his eyes.

"That's so nice of you, thank you." I told him sarcastically. When I was done, I combed my hair and put on a mask.

"What time is it?" I asked.

"It's only 5:30. Want to grab coffee before we go?"

"Yeah, sure. Let me just check my blood sugar before we go out." I told him, getting my equipment from a cupboard.

"I got you something."

I turned around to see him pulling out a box from his bag. I already recognized the box from where I'm standing because that's the one thing I couldn't buy. After all, it's too expensive.

"You..." I whispered.

"I thought you need this for your sugar monitoring." He was handing over the box to me, but I was too overwhelmed and hugged him instead.

"But this is expensive, how could I repay you?" I asked, my voice going lowering.

The box he's holding is a Dexcom glucose monitoring, it costs about 1, 200 dollars for the device, the C6 transmitters lasts about 90 days so 4 transmitters a year, a tot of 4, 800 dollars for a box of 3 Dexcom G6 sensors (each sensor lasts 10 days) estimated total: $6,000 per year, or $500 a month.

The thing is, there wasn't only one box, there were boxes... that would last me a year.

I pulled out from the hug and stepped back, even I was surprised by my sudden gesture. "Sorry, it's just that I already knew this box... how'd you know I needed one?"

"I had a little research about your diabetes and you don't know when your sugar fluctuates, you rely on your tiredness... I consulted a doctor and told me to get this for you. It's supposed to monitor your sugar."

I nodded, I already know how it works because I badly need one, but since I couldn't afford one and I got bills and rent to pay.

"Thank you." I said again, shaking my head. "I'll pay you, I promise, I just need to--"

"Do you want to try it now? Before we go out?" He cut me off. "Or continue to talk there till tomorrow?"

I nodded, and let him open the box. We sat in my little kitchen as he unbox my device. He carefully read the instructions first, then pulled out the device.

"Where do you want to stick it?" He asked.

"My arm is fine." I rolled my sleeves up and with the click sound, the tiny device is in place. He even bought adhesives so they won't be taken out.

"There, I think that should be good. Remember to replace this after 10 days."

"Geez, yes daddy."

He paused a little, and then gathered the plastics and turned around, his ears red.

I guess that didn't come out like a joke.

"Your device is connected here," He gave me of what looked like an apple watch, "you can track your sugar here. Let's turn this on and see your sugar."

The watch displayed 60 mg/dl.

"This means?" He asked, looking at me with a raised eyebrow. Like he already knew that I hadn't eaten yet.

"It's low...?" I answered nonchalantly. "Can we go now? so we can eat?"

"You eat something here and get your sugar up before we leave." His tone was a little commanding.

I sighed and opened my fridge and found a chocolate bar, opened it, and took a bite. He wasn't satisfied with the bite, but sat down on the sofa and got comfortable. Stating that we're not leaving until I finish the whole bar.

When I did, he stood up, took his bag from the floor, and grabbed the keys. He came up to me and twisted my wrist a little, where my glucose read 100 mg/dl. "Let's go."

We got in his car quietly and left quickly. Suga's phone started ringing, and he answered it once we turned on traffic.

"Jimin." He answered. "We're on the way... No, it's fine. Okay, see you."

"Are we the only one missing in the party?"

He nodded. "We'll be there in 30 minutes. He said they already prepared food, so I don't think we'll be able to grab a coffee."

"It's fine, you made me stuff a chocolate bar on our way out."

I heard him chuckle, after that the car went silent. One of the things that we probably have in common is that we prefer silence rather than awkward chit-chat. We are in our world itself.

We pulled into a private villa away from the city, it felt like a club inside because of the lights and loud party sounds.

"Yoon-gi ah!" I recognized the voice that called him as soon as we got out of the car. It was Jin, and alongside him was a tall, elegant-looking woman in her silk white dress and flats. She smiled in my direction, and the moonlight shone on her pretty face.

"Hello." She greeted.

"Selena! Long time no see." Suga greeted, "this is Hye-Ri. Hye-Ri, this is Selena, Jin's girlfriend."

"Hello." I timidly greeted, for the first time I was shy to greet someone who looked so beautiful. She looked like an idol herself.

"Hello, Hye-Ri, nice to meet you." She offered her hand, and I politely shook it. After that Jin and Suga talked about the party, and that Jimin prepared it to surprise his girlfriend's birthday.

All of it was a surprise because I've seen a little of them in the media, and from the looks of it, I'm happy because they still have a life despite the success of their career.

"Yoon-gi, don't you think I'm a little underdressed?" I whispered to the man beside me.

When I looked at him, a smile was seen on his face. Like he was delighted by something that I said. "You're fine. What made you think that?"

"Well, look at Selena."

"That's fine, she's a model so everything she wears suits her. Even you, even if you wear pajamas you'd still look cute."

I smacked his arm, "seriously?"

"What? I'm speaking facts."

"Am I a dog? I'm not cute, I'm pretty." I flipped my long-ass hair to his face and walked a little faster to be in pace with Selena. She turned to look at me, unfortunately for her, she needed to bend down a little, and took my elbow, and walked with her side.

"Are you alright? Are you comfortable?" She asked right away.

"Yes, I'm fine. Thank you. I used to work at a club, although this time I feel secured."

"How so?" She asked grinning.

"Because I feel secured and no one would grope on me." I told her honestly. The pretty grin she had dropped and paused.

"I'm so sorry to hear that." She apologized, the look on her face was full of worry and guilt.

"Oh no, you don't have to be sorry for me. That's all done." I assured her, I even patted her hand to soothe her. I couldn't stand the thought of her worrying about something that doesn't bother me now. Her beautiful face shouldn't even be tainted with worry about others.

"But Hye-Ri..."

"I'm good. Because right now..." I trailed off, smiling, then glanced at Yoon-gi. Who's talking to someone; as if calling his name, he turned in my direction... searching for something, until he met my eyes and smiled. "I feel like I'm secured."
