Chapter 034

"I caught it!!"

Arthur cried out in happiness as he pumped his fist into the air. He felt a sense of happiness in his heart as he looked at the pokeball that contained Scyther.

Halfway through the battle, he had feared that Charmander wouldn't be able to win, but in the end, they had managed to attain victory even though their opponent was really strong.

It was all thanks to the grit and determination shown by Charmander, and the tactics that Arthur came up with.

In a way, both of them were equally responsible for this victory and that made it more sweet.

"Charmander, you did a great job!"

The first thing that Arthur did after the battle ended was to praise Charmander for the hard work he had done. It was important for a trainer to praise and thank a Pokemon after a battle.

It was something that the anime had taught him, but the books of this world also highlight this fact.

"You were really great during the battle. Good job!"

"Charrr."

Charmander also cried out happily as Arthur patted his chest.

The warmth and affection that he had gotten from Arthur was one of the reasons behind his growth, motivating him to train even harder.

After praising Charmander for a while, he checked the injuries on his body and as he had thought, there were several injuries all over his body.

The cut marks were countless and if not for Charmander's hard reptile skin, the injuries would have been way worse.

Arthur decided to treat the injuries first and brought out a super potion and bandages. He threw a sitrus and oran berry to Chatmander to eat while he bandaged him.

After a while, the healing process was finally done and he guessed that Charmander would be able to heal completely in three days.

'It's good that I don't have anything else left to do in Viridian forest.'

It's been about two weeks since Arthur had been living in Viridian forest and he would finally be able to move to Pewter city now.

After all, his final goal of catching a Scyther was finally accomplished.

Thinking that, he looked at the pokeball that contained Scyther. He walked towards it and picked it up. Then, with a deep breath, he called out Scyther.

With a red light, Scyther appeared in front of Arthur.

"Scythe?"

Unlike how he acted during the battle, Scyther was now more calm and composed. The fierce aura that he was giving earlier was nowhere to be seen and he just stared at his new trainer.

His eyes reflected many worries and questions, but it didn't look like Scyther was thinking of disobeying his new trainer.

After all, he had been defeated fairly in the battle and he had no qualms about it.

He just wanted to know how his new trainer was going to treat him and whether he would be able to become stronger.

Understanding the worries Scyther had, Arthur opened his mouth.

"My name is Arthur Blade and I'm your trainer. Well, I know you have a lot of questions, but don't worry, I won't treat you badly."

Arthur's words made Scyther stare at him in his eyes, but he kept speaking without any stops.

"First of all, I'm not planning to cage you or anything. If you don't like me or my ways, you can leave. I won't hold you back or try to make you loyal by force."

He said this because he knew that Pokemon were sentient beings like humans and you can't make them loyal by force, at least not a rare and strong Pokemon like Scyther.

If he can't make Scyther like him, then it would only cause hindrances.

Scyther also widened his eyes hearing Arthur's words. He contemplated his words and wondered if Arthur was saying the truth or not.

Arthur continued his words after taking a short break.

"Another thing I can promise you is that I will make you stronger, way stronger than you can imagine."

This made Scyther look intensely at him. Arthur knew that he had managed to gain his interest and continued.

"If I'm not wrong, you were the previous patriarch of the Scyther tribe that lives here, right?"

"Scyther?!"

Scyther raised his voice in amazement, wondering how Arthur knew this. He slowly nodded his head and Arthur's guess proved to be right.

'Like I had thought.'

When Arthur had seen how Scyther had retaliated against Charmander, he had already gotten the clue that this Scyther was special.

Just the fact that it had mastered using both double team and slash at the same time was the proof of this.

And the reason a Scyther would even be on the outskirts of its territory was to either look for a prey or if he had been exiled from his tribe.

The first option doesn't apply here as when Arthur had found Scyther, he was just sleeping. That's why he made the conclusion that Scyther had been exiled from his tribe.

'The only reason a Scyther will be exiled from his tribe is when he lost his seat of the patriarch to another Scyther.'

Arthur recited a line he had read a long time ago in his mind.

Due to all these facts, he had reached this conclusion and it looked like he wasn't wrong.

"I know how you feel. If you want, I can help you become stronger. You have the potential to reach the top and I can certainly help you in this. Believe me!" Arthur patted his chest while saying this.

He knew that Scyther would have a desire to become strong, especially after losing his place in his tribe.

His battle with Charmander had just reminded him of the fact again that he wasn't strong enough.

In the first place, Scythers usually have an innate desire to grow stronger and battle tough opponents. Arthur was just trying to ignite that desire in Scyther and it indeed worked.

"Scythe!"

After hearing Arthur's words, Scyther pondered for a bit and decided to be with him, at least for now. He just wanted to know if Arthur can really make him stronger and that one chance was enough for Arthur.

With that set aside, the only thing left now was to find the treasure that was buried here.
