Chapter 42

Calvino then returned Calista's phone, not wanting to look overprotective in front of his beloved lover. After that, he immediately took Lenata to the hospital canteen.

--

The first person that Calista wanted to call wasn't her mother or father but Leonard. Her heart was suddenly filled with deep anxiety after making repeated calls but never getting an answer.

"Is Leo so busy that he doesn't want to pick up my calls? He hasn't come to the hospital to see me for the past four days. Or maybe Calvin has done something bad?" Calista muttered to herself.

All the evil thoughts raced through her brain like a broken record. She then sent a message to confirm her man's condition.

||•

Hello honey, how are you? Where have you been these four days without visiting me at the hospital?

Are you okay, honey?

Calvin doesn't do anything bad, right?

Are you in a meeting?

A happy smile was etched on her lips when she saw her message read by Leonard. Still, her smile faded after not getting a reply.

'What is this? Why do you suddenly change, Leo? Even if you are in a meeting, you can tell me tho.' Calista thought.

Calista's mind began to travel everywhere as well as her lover.

Leonard rubbed his face roughly, not knowing what to do. The events of that night still shackled his soul, imprisoning him between deep guilt.

'I'm sorry, baby, I have betrayed our love, and have tarnished the sanctity of our love.' Leonard's mind was filled with deep guilt.

'You're a crazy bastard, Leo! A man like you doesn't deserve a woman like Calista. You should leave her rather than hurt her heart with betrayal!' His heart cursed himself.

Leonard rubbed his face roughly while staring at the ceiling.

"Is it worth my betrayal to be paid for by our separation, baby?"

While he was deep in thought, his phone suddenly rang, and it was Chander who called. His boss asked him to accompany him back to the club, which he refused firmly.

"I'm sure last night was too beautiful to pass up, right? Don't you want it again?" Chander asked.

"Sorry, sir. I feel unwell now, so I need to rest." Leonard replied.

"Then I will send staff."

"No need, sir. Thank you."

Leonard leaned his head back on the bed with his eyes closed. Curses just kept coming out of his lips when his phone rang. One thing he hated most about Chander was his pushy attitude.

He quickly reached for the phone that was lying on the nightstand. His eyes widened when he saw the name on his phone screen, not Chander but Calista.

'What should I do?' He asked himself.

Who would have thought that his demonic lust last night could confine him like this? Not even facing Calista but he was already confused half to death. What if she came right in front of him, looking at him full of love? Oh, he must be dying.

His phone rang again. The woman didn't give up either before listening to his voice. Finally, he reluctantly picked up the call.

"Hello, baby." Leonard answered the call.

"Hello, honey. What happened? Why didn't you reply to my message?" Calista asked.

"Sorry baby, I was in a meeting, so I couldn't pick up the phone and also reply to your messages."

"How are you?"

"That question is more appropriate for you. How are you, have you recovered?"

Calista didn't answer. Instead, she attacked him back with the question, 'why haven't you come to visit for four days?'

"I was out of town. I'll go back to Surabaya tomorrow morning. Honey! Are you okay? You haven't answered my question. Please don't make me worry."

Calista immediately smiled at the attention her lover showed.

"I have been allowed to go home this afternoon, and maybe I'll start working tomorrow. See you tomorrow honey, I can't wait to meet you."

Leonard asked Calista not to go to the office first. He wanted her to fully recover.

"But I can't leave my job for too long."

"I know. I monitored your division while you were sick. Matius and Kiara are also helping out."

"Don't get inexperienced people into my division, Leo. Sorry, it's not that I don't appreciate your help but..."

"But why? Does this have something to do with Reno's fraud?"

"Without me explaining, you must already know what the answer is, right?"

"I know. Never mind, forget about that problem. I miss you."

"I miss you too."

"Give me a kiss, baby." Leonard was being clingy.

Calista immediately hung up the phone when she faintly heard the door open. Her brother showered her with questions.

"Have you called mom?" Calvino asked.

Calista nodded.

"Good." He then stroked Calista's hair lovingly.

Lenata, who was by Calvino's side, didn't feel jealous by the sight in front of her eyes. She realised that by loving Calvino, she had to be ready to be the second of his priority.

"Oh yes, babe, you've been allowed to go home this afternoon, right?"

Calista nodded.

"Well then, what if I stay in your apartment for a while?"

"Sure. Why did you ask? You're my future sister-in-law, so don't hesitate, Belen."

"What's Belen?" Calvino asked.

"Bebeb Lenata," Calista answered with a grin.

"That's cool, bebeb Lenata." Calvino teased and gently touched Lenata's shoulder, who was busy putting Calista's clothes into the bag.

"Keep your health, Calista! Don't let the doctor change his decision and delay your return," Calvino ordered when he found Calista was about to help Lenata.

"Your brother is right," Lenata added

"Ish, you two are not married yet, but already compact like this. What if you guys are already married? Huh, I can't imagine what you guys will be like later." Calista growled.

"Just imagine something good, babe. If we get married, you will definitely get married too, so don't worry." Lenata replied with a seductive wink.

It wasn't that Calista didn't like being monitored, but she wanted the two of them to think about their future, not to be busy taking care of her all the time.

"What are you thinking about, huh?" Calvino asked when he found his beloved sister lost in thought.

"Nothing, Calvin." Calista replied.

"Don't lie, Calista. Don't cover anything up. I don't like it."

"I have nothing to hide, Calvin."

"Alright then, I'll go out for a while."

Calista nodded.

Calvino, who was walking out of the room, was immediately stopped by Lenata.

"Where are you going?"

"Completing the administration." Calvino answered.

Calista witnessed how possessive her future sister-in-law was. She smiled in amusement.

"Why did you smile like that? You're laughing at me, hum?" Lenata asked.

"Nope. I'm happy because now someone is paying attention to my brother." Calista replied.

Lenata immediately blushed because of her future sister-in-law's words.
