Chapter 44 - Enen versus the Dark creature

With Lias and Roy gone, Emma along with Skull soon left the room as well – Emma going back to her own room and Skull going to visit Sally yet again.

So as it were now, only Evan and Teya remained in the room. Evan, in particular, was as much as troubled as Lias when it came to the strange scepter and Rifts. He, for one, didn't like being left out from the loop. But then again, having been banished from the Kingdom for most of his life, this wasn't that much of a change.

Still, though, he couldn't help wondering and only continued to look to the underground tunnel which lead towards the Gate. Perhaps in Hell, there would be more answers.

The boy took a step towards the throne, his body seemingly moving on his own. How would he even activate the Rift?

A familiar, strange symbol appeared within his eyes and the boy began to feel a strange tingle within himself. What did all of these things mean? Evan took another step forward. What is going to happen…

Teya grabbed his shoulder. "Hey, are you okay?" she asked.

Evan snapped out from his pondering. And at the same, his eyes reverted to what they had once been. He then turned around and looked to Teya.

With a hand placed behind his neck, he smiled and said. "Oh nothing, I was thinking about that scepter. But I guess, no matter how much I try, I won't be able to figure it out."

Teya sighed. "Well, if I'm honest, it interests me too. After all, when it comes to historical artifacts, I'd like to consider myself an expert." Her eyes then dimmed as she pulled her hand away. "But I suppose I'm not that much an expert. Much of history still remains a mystery to me."

Evan frowned. "Yeah, I suppose that's true."

And once more, when the room was beginning to fill with gloom and despair, an overjoyed, eccentric figure marched into the castle. Of course, that figure was none other than Blyke Electura who walked into the room with his usual high spirited energy. "Yo guys, wassup!"

Both Teya and Evan looked to the tall boy, their eyes blank and oozing of depression. "Oi…" Blyke made a face, twisting in his lips with his eyes twitching, as if to say "What happened this time?"

And at that, Evan proceeded to make his way out of the castle. "Don't worry about it." He said.

As Teya passed Blyke, still using Evan as her personal barrier, she said "Yeah, an empty headed goofball wouldn't get it."

"Hey!" Blyke raised a hand and scrambled angrily behind them. "Who are you calling goofball?"

At that, the group left the castle.

Maya and her group had arrived at Keshla River, which served as a border between the district 2, where Maya currently was and district 1, where the capital was located.

As it were now, the group, Maya especially, needed rest and as such, they had decided to stay at another little village found near the wide river. But Maya couldn't help wondering what would become of these people. The current set of about a hundred was already quite a lot for her to carry all the way to the capital. Anymore would just be too much for her to handle.

Somehow, they would have to stall until they received reinforcements from the capital. There was already a messenger bird that had been sent to the Eregard but Maya knew that she could get there much faster. So perhaps, after getting some rest, she would do just that.

Until then, she supposed that the current group of Gifted would have to hold out. Or perhaps, the girl, who was lying within a bed found within some kind villager's house, looked to the white robed man. He had been sitting with crossed legs, flat on the ground. And occasionally, Maya saw the green aura emanate from his body, only to be sucked back in as the man downed his head in a hint of frustration.

"What are you doing?" the girl asked.

Enen turned himself around to face the young woman. "Hmm…" he placed a hand to his chin. "I suppose you can say I'm trying to leave. But something is interfering or rather fate is interfering. I don't know what exactly, but a historical event is occurring. And that prevents me from leaving."

A somewhat detailed answer. Though Maya didn't understand most of what he was saying, at least he seemed to attempt an explanation this time.

"What you did to that Malice beast, could you do it again if he comes after us?" the girl asked. If Enen could do that, they could definitely stall for time until reinforcements came.

Enen's eyes were still dead with no life. "I can." He sighed. "Though I rather not do it for too long." The man then braced his cheek with his right hand. "How long would you have me immobilize him?"

Maya, yet to have gotten proper rest, yawned. Though she tried to stay awake, the only thing that was keeping her as such was the worry she had felt. But if Enen could stall the malice beast, she would be able to get to the capital and return with help. "Just a few hours should be enough." And at that, the girl closed her eyes as she fell into a slumber.

About two hours had passed now, and soon the dark creature found himself being able to move again.

"What was that?" he asked to himself.

But strangely enough, a voice answered. A crow flew down from the sky and landed on the creature's shoulder. "It seems that man possessed a strange ability."

"You!" the dark creature swatted his shoulder, the crow flying up and transforming to land on the ground as a human, successfully avoiding the blow.

"Now, now, why are you angry this time?" the white gentleman asked with his cane hanged on his wrist.

"Yet again, you did nothing to help me!" the creature raged as it elongated a hand to the man, who only tilted to the side, letting the arm fly past him as he shifted away.

"What could I have possibly done to help you in that situation?" the man asked, as the creature's dark arm retracted. The gentle man had stuck his cane into the ground, resting his hands upon it, as he looked to the monster.

The malice beast placed a hand to his chin and thought about it for a bit. Then he gritted his red teeth and turned around. "I suppose you're right."

And at that, the dark creature dissipated into nothing and went after the group of humans as the gentleman shifted into a crow to follow behind.

Maya had slept through the night and she awoke to the sounds of shouting and panic. Immediately, she ran outside to where the commotion was coming from to see that a storm of malice had appeared over the villager.

At that, she used her winds and brought the malice together in one spot, where the dark form then appeared with grinning red teeth.

Lelita had been readying a beam of light to shoot at the creature but Maya interjected. "Find Enen!" she ordered.

But before Lelita could even move, the white haired man appeared beside Maya. "Calm down." He said as he yawned. "I've only just woken up, you know."

"Do it!" Maya shouted as the dark creature stretched its arm to reach for the girl.

The green aura emerged from Enen and it went after the elongated arm. But before it could connect, the monster retracted its limb to where he stood, floating within Maya's tremendous winds.

"Don't expect that to work again!" he shouted as he spiraled with malice. But without his third eye, he would not have enough power of break free just like that. So instead, he anchored his arms to the ground below and pulled himself away from the winds.

Then, not wanting to risk using his power just to be caught again, he dashed forward and soon appeared behind Maya and Enen.

A dark claw struck the white haired man's throat.

There wasn't enough time and the aura around Enen's hand wouldn't reach the creature.

Is this how it would end for him? Winds flared around Maya but they wouldn't reach him either. She could only watch, in a sort of slow motion, as the creature's hand reached closer for Enen's neck.

And as the creature's pointy finger touched the bare skin of Enen's neck, he vanished. And then he appeared behind the dark creature where the man touched the monster's back.

Soon enough, the green aura surrounded the darkness and the creature was once more frozen.
