Flying lesson

A gasp left Skyla's lips when the forest entrance came into view. Even from afar, she could visibly see the mist floating in the woods, concealing half of the trees within its cloudy white blanket.

It was as if the mist was deliberately concealing the forest mysteries just like how a child would discover different flavours in a candy as they keep munching.

As they approached the clearing, a shudder travelled down Skyla's body making her instinctively rub her arms. Her lips trembled slightly when she felt the coldness seep into her body making her crave for warmth from the huge jacket placed over her shoulders.

Skyla let out a breath in relief when she felt her body warming up a little. She didn't even want to imagine how cold it would be in the mountains if the forest entrance was this cold.

'Would she even survive this temperature?'

She couldn't help but glance at the vampires around her and subconsciously shook her head in dismay, 'I guess… not'

When the carriage came to a full stop, Ezekiel got out first followed by her and then Casper. As soon as her feet touched the ground, her eyes widened at the masterpiece before her.

Skyla was taken aback by nature's creation as she looked at the small trail leading from the clearing towards the entrance which was hidden away by the mist. Her lips curled up when she saw the small wooden signboard planted just before the mist concealed the entrance which said 'Misty Woods' in block letters.

The entire setting made her wonder how this place turned out to be dangerous when it gave off a very peaceful yet beautiful feeling. Lifting her eyes, she could still see the thick branches through the cloudy white mist.

Skyla was excited to discover the mystery behind the forest like a kid who would be excited in tasting a new flavour.

Suddenly a voice echoed beside her, putting an end to her daydreams, "We have to go by foot from here onwards"

Skyla swiftly turned around and asked in shock, "Foot?" How will she even make it to the mountains?

She couldn't help but glance at her feet and wonder, 'Would I be able to catch up with them if I run?'

But the next second, she took a deep breath and shook her head sadly, 'No way….'

She didn't need anyone to remind her that the other party was a vampire and she was just a human, a human who can't run fast at that.

Casper raised his eyebrow questioningly as he followed her gaze and finally understood her distress. He couldn't help but chuckle as he knocked her head softly, "Do you think we can reach the mountains at your speed?"

Skyla rubbed her head and pouted her lips, making him smile widely. He moved closer to her and winked at her, "You will be flying, little lamb"

"Fly?" Her eyes widened in horror as she looked at Casper who had a sly grin plastered on his face.

Casper bent down to her eye-level and whispered, "Yeah… you should be honoured that you get to fly with yours truly"

Skyla's lips twitched as she suppressed her smile and pretended to look annoyed. She pushed him away in mock-anger but couldn't keep it up when she saw him narrow his eyes at her.

She grinned at him before succumbing to her chuckles making Casper laugh along with her. But soon, his laughter came to a halt when he felt his body stiffen under a stern cold gaze.

He turned around swiftly and instantly noticed the dark face of Ezekiel, who was glaring at him. His palms turned sweaty making him wipe it off his clothes.

'Did I do something?'

He finally let out a relieved breath when he saw Ezekiel turn away from them. He shook his head helplessly as he thought, 'Does he hate Skyla so much?'

Now that he thought about it, apart from the time Ezekiel visited her in his room, he never interacted with her. He was avoiding her completely and he did look quite mad when he left her in his room.

'I think I should keep Skyla away from him lest something unwanted happens'

Casper nodded his head sharply at Ezekiel making him frown. Not wanting to think what that idiot thought, Ezekiel waved his hand as he walked off towards the clearing, not knowing that this slight mishap of his, would cost him greatly in the future.

"Let's hurry and secure a hiding spot before the night hits" Ezekiel uttered as he prepared to take off. But he halted when he heard Casper inquire worriedly, "What is it, Skyla?"

Unaware of his action, Ezekiel instantly glanced at Skyla and noticed her staring intently at the road behind her. He frowned and quickly inspected the area once more.

He had checked the surroundings when he got off the carriage and there was no one hiding in the shadows. But maybe he missed someone?

But soon, he heard her say, "Elena isn't back yet" making him grit his teeth.

'Stupid human'

Right as her words left her mouth, suddenly she felt a gust of wind hit her, making her long black strands flutter. She took a step back involuntarily but in the next instant, surprise clouded her face.

Elena stood in front of her and gazed at her keenly for some seconds before turning towards Ezekiel and informed, "It's all taken care but the main person has yet to come out of his hiding"

Elena rolled her eyes and uttered annoyedly, "I guess Alistair sent an annoying dog to our doors this time"

Ezekiel pursed his lips, sharing her same feelings. Nevertheless, he looked at Elena and said, "Let's finish this mission as soon as possible and deal with this afterward"

The vampires nodded while Skyla took turns to look at everyone. When she finally glanced at Ezekiel again, to her surprise, she found him gone…

'Huh' She blinked as she turned towards Casper who smiled at her and asked playfully, "Ready for the flying, little lamb?"

"Wait… weren't you kidding?"

Casper knitted his brows as he pretended to think for a second before he grinned, "No"

Before she could say anything else, he immediately scooped her up in his arms, startling Skyla. She clutched his collar tight as she glanced at Casper anxiously.

"Relax, little lamb… You are in safe hands"

Skyla disregarded him as she held onto his collar tightly and focused on his chest. She closed her eyes tightly and soon heard his laughter sound above her head, "Hold on tight"

And then she felt the wind hit her...
