Chapter 18

My journey back to Camelot was long and arduous. I knew Emilia was still searching for me but that was the least of my concerns seeing as I had heard word King Uther had begun a crusade to exterminate all practitioners of magic and this was the largest obstacle I would have to face.

It took me two days on horse back to reach Camelot but I wanted to visit my old home first. The home where Emilia and my children once lived. I wanted to see the place that resulted in my most harrowing failure.

I still had nightmares of that day. The day I lost my family. The day I failed my wife and children.

I approached the old cottage I used to live in and I was surprised it was still standing. Then I spotted the tomb I last saw Emilia in. It was broken from the inside out but there was no sign of Emryce and Morgana. While I was walking around I tripped on a stick.

I fell to the ground and checked to see what had tripped me. It was the spear I pulled from my torso two years ago. The same spear that led to me not being able to protect my family.

"DAMN YOU UTHER!!!" I cried out in anger.

After having gone through all those memories I wanted nothing more than to personally persecute Uther Pendragon along with every single one of his spawns.

"Hello Damien." I heard as I was about to leave and I looked around and it was her.

After all this time. There she was and she hadn't aged a day.

"Emilia. You look well." I said to her.

"I see you have your memories back. I suppose it shall be more satisfying to torture you when you know what you're being tortured for." She said to me her tone colder than ice.

"What happened to you my love?" I asked her.

" You failed to protect our children again. You are the reason we have no family anymore." She told me with pain in her heart.

"I failed you and I know that no amount of apologies will fix that but I still love you with all my heart." I explained to her.

"Did you love me when you left me for dead in that tomb? or did you leave as I begged for your help?" She asked while pointing to the broken tomb.

"Emilia I--" I tried to tell her but she stopped me and continued talking.

"That day you died to me and all I have wanted since that day was to make sure you actually died and that you stay dead." She told me as took out a dagger.

"What are you going to do with that?" I asked her.

She just smiled and threw it in my leg.

I grunted as I tried to pull it out and it only went in deeper.

"What is this?!" I asked her in pain.

It felt as if the dagger had increased in length and was deepening each time I tried to pull it out.

"It's enchanted. Do not bother trying to remove it. It will only increase your pain. The next dagger I throw will be directly in your heart." She said with this devilish grin.

She threw another dagger and I quickly dodged it and ran away from her as quickly as I could.

Once I thought she was out of sight I took a moment to breathe then I remembered what she said about the dagger.

"I know this enchantment. I just hope I am right." I said to myself as I pushed the damn dagger in deeper and it popped right out of my leg.

It was an inversion spell. Push became pull and pull became push.

I knew where I needed to go and what I needed to do.

"I have to kill Uther Pendragon if it's the last thing I do." I said to myself as my wound healed rapidly.

I walked to the gates of Camelot and saw as guards were deployed the moment they saw me. He knew I was coming for him but this time no mortal would stand in my way of vengeance.

I slaughtered them all and continued to Uther.

Archers shot my body full of arrows but I did not cease. I finally made it into the castle and I made my way to Uther's chambers. I broke down the door and found him cowaring with a sword in his hand.

"Damien d-do not this. I will get you anything you want. Money! Power! Women!" Uther pleaded.

"I want my family!! Can you give me that?!" I asked him as I grabbed his throat with my bare hands and squeezed.

"Father!!" I heard a young man calling out before a sword pierced me from the back.

I looked around to see a boy no older than thirteen and a girl I swear was Morgana.

"Morgana..." I said as the air left my lungs and everything went dark.
