Dinner in the Cafeteria

Feng Hei Lang checked every corner of the "room" to see that it was simply like a concrete box with an exit and a bucket. She sighed and turned around to exit. However, the flap which she entered now read: "Please insert your medallion to exit."

Feng Hei Lang placed it inside a slot, and the door opened. She furrowed her eyes at the system. 'Shouldn't it be insert it to enter? Not exit?'

She sighed and headed out of the dormitory. Feng Hei Lang walked out of the tower and stood on the street once more. 'Mmm...I'm quite hungry! I should go and get some food right now!'

She sneakily pulled out Xing out of her shadow. He yawned in response. 'Mommy! Xing hungry! Xing want food!' Feng Hei Lang giggled and patted his head. "Yes, yes. I'll get you food, don't worry!"

She placed him on her back and started running down the street. There were clear signs directing her which direction to go. There were many foxes, most in human form. They all wore a uniform, with an emblem on their arms.

Feng Hei Lang assumed that represented their disciple rank. She found the cafeteria after going in circle for a few times.

She slipped through the door flap and gasped. The cafeteria was very wide with many tables. A aroma rose from the kitchen, and Feng Hei Lang licked her lips in excitement.

She found Kang Lei sitting at one of the tables with Ke Qi, the orange fox that passed the entrance exam. Feng Hei Lang walked up to them and placed Xing down. "Hello Kang Lei, and nice to meet you Ke Qi."

Kang Lei grinned. "Hello Hei Lang! This is Ke Qi, and Ke Qi, this is Hei Lang. I met her a bit before the entrance exam."

Ke Qi nodded. "Nice to meet you, Hei Lang. I'm Ke Qi, from the Lunar Fox Clan."

Feng Hei Lang gasped in surprise. "Oh! You're from the four great families! Nice to meet you! I'm from the Obsidian Fox Clan."

He nodded again. "That clan...why don't you join us for dinner tonight? Besides, is that a Mind Link beast? Please refrain from bringing out beasts in the cafeteria."

Feng Hei Lang tilted her head. "It's not allowed? But, Xing is hungry!" Xing let out a little "Rawr!" when his name came up.

Ke Qi shook his head. "Not allowed...you can feed him later. I'm going to go order first." He stood up from the table and walked towards the line that was heading towards the kitchen.

Feng Hei Lang quickly put Xing in her shadow after that. She whispered, "Xing, I'll save some food for you. Just stay there for a bit longer." He nodded and Feng Hei Lang turned back to Kang Lei.

She pointed towards the kitchen. "Imma go order, do you want to come with me?"

Kang Lei nodded. "Sure, I'll go with you. I wonder what's on the menu."

Feng Hei Lang walked towards the line with Kang Lei and saw that there were only three choices. She tilted her head. 'The first one is fish with fresh falberries? What are falberries?'

She poked Kang Lei. "Hey, what are falberries?" He shrugged. "It's just a fruit. It tastes okay. I think I'm ordering the third one."

Feng Hei Lang turned back to the menu. 'The third one is... Organic caprena with roasted squirrel? ARGH! WHAT ARE THESE?!' She checked the second option. 'Grilled pig? That sounds like something good! I haven't had a proper meal in like FOREVER!'

Feng Hei Lang placed the menu back. She quietly asked Xing, who was in her shadow, what he wanted.

Xing didn't respond for a while. Then, his voice filled her head. 'I want three! Three, Mommy!'

She nodded and assumed that he meant the third option. Feng Hei Lang saw that the line still had a decent amount of people left, so she quickly opened her quest menu without anyone noticing.

[Quest:

Drink the blood and eat the flesh of any fox.

Penalty for Failure: User will become deprived of blood and flesh, and go into a starving phase. Identity as a demon fox will be exposed.

The quest still didn't change. Feng Hei Lang sighed. 'I guess quests don't change when they are given...But how will I complete this? Maybe it's the best if I do it in a fight, so it doesn't seem as if I drank their blood on purpose or something...'

She closed the quest menu as she saw that she was approaching the front of the line. The chef was in human form. He held out his hand and said, "Medallion please."

Feng Hei Lang took it out of her shadow and passed it to him. He scanned it and handed it back to her. "You have one free meal today. What would you like?"

She pointed at the menu. "I would like to get the grilled pig. Also, I would like to order the caprena with roasted squirrel to go along with it."

The chef reached out his hand once more. "You'll have to pay for the second dish. It'll be twenty tallies."

Feng Hei Lang tentatively placed her medallion in her hand once more. 'EHHH? I FORGOT THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR XING TOO! This completely ruins my calculations! Three meals a day...four credits per meal... My current number of credits will only last me A DAY!'

The chef gave back her medallion and she dropped it in her shadow. He grabbed two plates and handed placed it in front of her. "Do you have a way of carrying them?"

Feng Hei Lang nodded and used [Shadow Manipulation] to make two tendrils to carry the food. She then walked back to the table and placed it down in front of her.

Ke Qi was already eating. He greeted her with a nod when he saw her sit down. Feng Hei Lang peeked at the two dishes and her stomach rumbled. 'Mmm! It looks so good! And turns out caprena is similar to basil back in my old world!' She decided to experiment and place the second dish in her shadow.

Feng Hei Lang whispered, "Xing, do you see the food?" A reply came shortly afterwards. 'Yes, Mommy! Thank you!'

She smiled and turned back to her own dish. In a few gulps, Feng Hei Lang finished her meal. When she stood up to leave, a fox blocked her path. It was Tian Si, the fox who blamed her for not making the race earlier.

He shoved her with his paws, and Feng Hei Lang stumbled a few foot backwards. Tian Si growled at her. "You! You made me lose ten tallies today! I, Tian Si, a first-year, Silver-Rank Disciple, challenge Hei Lang to a duel!"
