Chapter 5

The rickshaw stopped in front of a huge mansion surrounded by paddy fields. Chen paid the rickshaw man. Then he hold my hand and led me to the front gate of the mansion. The front white, iron gate was intricately carved with pictures of dragons painted in vibrant colors.

Chen rang the bell. After a few seconds an old man came out to greet us.

"Welcome. Master Lim is expecting you," said the old man looking at Chen.

We walked through the iron gate and up a long drive way.

There were beautiful flowers lining both side of the drive way and in the middle of it was a big fountain. The mansion was white in colors with intricate carving of dragons on all the window panes, roof as well as on all the doors. They were beautiful.

The mansion had two wings. There were many rooms on both side of the wings. Servants can be seen walking busily around.

We took off our shoes when we reached the entrance into the mansion. The old man then showed us into the living room. The living room was filled with antiques furniture.

"Please have a seat and wait here. I will go and get Master Lim," said the old man.

There were butterflies in my stomach. I clutched Chen's hand tighter.

"Sabrina have a seat and relax," said Chen.

I slowly let go of his hand and sat on a chair.

Few minutes later, a very tall, tan handsome man in his early forties walked into the room. He wore a pair of round silver-framed spectacles which complement his sharp features. He has brownish colored hair, a pair of big, brown eyes and a sharp nose.

"Welcome, Chen and you must be Sabrina. You had grown so much. The last time I saw you, you were still an infant," said Master Lim looking straight at me.

"Where is Grand master Lee and Mrs Lee?" he asked Chen.

Chen looked at him and shook his head.

"How about Master Lee?" he asked.

Chen shook his head again.

Master Lim's face turned pale and his eyes watered up.

"My poor child. I am so sorry for your lost. From today onward you will be part of our family. You will live here and I will take care of you like my own daughter," said Master Lee with teared filled eyes.

He walked over and hugged me. I started sobbing.

After a heart-breaking moment, Master Lim asked the old man whose name was Dusit to show both myself and Chen to our room.

Dusit brought me to my room first. My room was on the East Wing of the house where all the family members were while Chen's room was at the servant quarters which was at another smaller building located beside the mansion.

We walked passed a few rooms before reaching my room.

According to Dusit, the first room was the master's bedroom followed by another two rooms which belonged to both the young masters.

When he opened the door to my room, it was painted in soft pink. There was a four post bed with mosquito netting in the middle of the room. A big make up table with mirror was on one side of the bed and on the other side was a big wooden closet. There were many fluffy pillows on the bed.

A door opened up to a huge balcony over-looking the drive way while on the other end was a big window facing the garden. At one corner was a big modern bathroom with a huge bath tub.

It was a room fit for a princess!

"Your maid in service will attend to you in awhile," said Dusit.

A while later a short, chubby middle aged woman with long, braided hair came into my room.

"Good afternoon, Miss Sabrina. I am Aom. I will be helping you from now on."

"Nice to meet you, Aom."

"Let's get you unpacked and settle in. Then I will prepare a warm bath for you," said Aom.

She busied herself unpacking the few things which I brought. Then she prepared a warm bath for me. She helped me to wash my hair. It was very filthy as I had not bath in a few days. There were leaves and sand sticking all over it.

She was a very nice lady. She sang some Thai traditional lullaby to calm me. It reminds me of my mother.
