Thoughts And Minds

Chipita walks out of the gym as the bell rings for the next class. He sighs as he is glared at or even ignored by others around him as he walks down to his next class. This was typical since he was the only transgender male allowed in the boy’s locker room after his parents threatened the school.

They just weren’t used to a person like Chipita going into a locker room with a bunch of other males. Chipita slows his pace. Now that he is thinking about it, his surgery is coming up soon. Afterward, he will have to rename himself. He should’ve already had a name picked out since he was legally able to change it now that he was nineteen.

As Chipita walked down the hallway, deep in thought, he didn’t notice the other people avoiding him as he cut through their path.

“What the fuck.” A male mutters as he avoids Chipita’s mindless walking pattern.

Chipita snaps back into reality, realizing that he was on the ‘wrong side’ of the hallway. He quickly walks to the other side and continues to press forward to the quad.

Chipita sinks into their desk. At least it wasn’t a bad class like the gym was to him. Someone sat next to him. Chipita noticed their awfully happy smile.

“Well howdy there! Nice to see you again!” They chirp.

Chipita turns to look at them, a surprising look overtaking them as their eyes meet.

It was that boy from earlier, Yunxu. Chipita began to panic. When and why is he here in his classroom? Chipita smiles back to hide his fear.

“Hey...Yunxu, right?” Chipita guesses, forgetting his name for a moment.

Yunxu beams in delight.

“Yup!” He chirps as he leans over to scavenge in his backpack.

“So, when do you think we’ll get our pasties?” he asks as he pulls out two sheets of paper, handing one to Chipita.

Chipita kindly accepts the paper. He takes a moment to think about what to tell him. Usually, people receive their pastie on their graduation day, but if you were held back like Chipita was, you receive yours on your eighteenth birthday. Chipita did receive a pastie, however, he had difficulties with his and requested another pastie.

“Soon, I think. You usually receive them at graduation.” Chipita said as he took out a pencil from his pocket.

“I know, but I can’t wait to get acquainted with whoever they were!” Yunxu says as the bell rings. The teacher gets up from their desk and heads to the center of the class.

“Okay class, today…”

“Mr. Ovol.”

The teacher looks up at the intercom.

“Yes?”

“Can you send Chipita to the front office? She’s being checked out.”

Everyone takes a glance at Chipita, who rolled his eyes. Of course, the old lady at the front keeps on calling him a girl, which doesn’t help with anything.

“He’s on his way.” Mr.Oval says, using Chipita’s correct pronouns.

Chipita slowly starts to put everything away. When everything was put up, he slung his backpack over his shoulder and headed out the door. On the way to the office, Chipita couldn’t help but wonder why he was being checked out. No one had told him in advance that he was, so this might be urgent. Maybe his sister got in a bad wreck and was in the hospital, or mom hurt herself in a bad accident. Maybe his cat died. Chipita rolls his eyes. If it was that urgent then maybe they would’ve been more panic sounding over the intercom. Chipita looks up from their thought process in the realization that they were at the front desk of the office. The old lady who called him up here was in her normal spot. Chipita hated her so much. Not only does she use the wrong pronouns for him, but she also is just rude overall.

“Um, excuse me,” Chipita says, getting the attention of the old lady.

“What is it?” The old lady growls.

“I’m being checked out.”

“Oh, well go on through the doors. I think your mom or whatever you call her is waiting for you.”

With that, the door next to the office made a whirring sound. The little security lock next to it flashes green. Chipita walks over to it and turns the nob.
