Chapter 4: Talking in the moonlight

We stayed there all night talking about our life, our dream life, our dream, our likes and dislikes, we were getting to know each other. All about Eric fascinated me, he didn't have an easy life: he didn't grow up with a father so he must have taken care of his mother and taken many small jobs since he was sixteen to save money to be able to go to college.

Then he told me all his weird, funniest experiences in college. He said that his mother helped him to move out of the campus, he went to parties, he made some new friends, and he was even late for his first day at college because his alarm o'clock was flat. « How about you ? » he asked me with a curious face. "There was not much to say about me", I replied to him.

"I did a homeschool with Richard and I couldn't make many friends. The only occasion when I could make friends were during some royal trip in another vampire kingdom and I met the other vampire heirs and I didn't hang up very often. "I didn't have a best friend (s) like every girl had , most of the vampire princesses are so materialistic and hypocritical I didn't really like their characters."

In friendship I really really envied him because he had friends who didn't judge his every behaviour, his appearance, his clothes and his fortune. "You know, despite that I was a princess, the people that I really cared about, especially my father, didn't listen to me very much and about my mother, she organized some charity events all the time in addition to her queen obligation and she had to travel sometimes .

It's true that they were nice to me and gave me all I wanted, they were present in the most important moments of my life but that wasn't enough for me. I..." and a tear fell on my cheek, I couldn't finish my sentence. " I'm so sorry I didn't mean to make you cry", he said looking at me with pity in his beautiful hazel eyes.

"Don't look at me with that gaze ; I know what you think you and most people think that I'm just a spoiled little princess because of her little pathetic problem which isn't even a really big problem and how cliche were the things that I just said", I replied to his look.

"Actually I think that you are really cute when you cry" he said with a little smile on his face.

" Seriously !?" I said, surprised.

" Yeah, and what I think about you or other people think about you doesn't matter, it's what you think about yourself that matters the most and I'm sure that it's not people who think about you", he replied to me. I don't understand why I feel so vulnerable with this guy, I mean I met him a few hours earlier.

There was something that captivated me in this girl. I don't know what it is but I like the way she speaks. I can listen to her all night with her soft and melodious voice. She isn't like everyone that I met before, she was kind, true and real and behind her fake smile in front of her her family and the guest there was so much pain and loneliness hidden in the depths of her and seems like she's been carrying it for a longtime, she even realized that it was so heavy.

I really feel sorry that she had to carry that for so long and I really want to do something for her that makes her laugh and smile to erase and makes her forget little by little these years of loneliness and pain. then I asked her "what are you doing tomorrow ?".

"I think that my father would punish me for my earlier behaviour and I would be locked in my room until I agree to talk to him and accept my fate to marry Richard but aside from that nothing special", she replied.

"But can you still free yourself for tomorrow night for only a few hours ?", I asked. "I think I can only for a few hours but why do you ask me that ?", she said.

And I responded "I can't tell you now but wear something fancy and comfortable for tomorrow night and meet me here at 9 pm. Is that ok for you ?"

"Well, yeah", she replied, "I think I should go back to the castle now. I feel very confident to face my father and Richard and the sun will rise soon.

« Eric, thank you so much for this night it really helped me a lot" and she softly kissed my right cheek "Oh and good night !" then she leaves without giving me time to respond. I was completely voiceless and I only managed to answer a few minutes later "go... good ni...ght" I finally replied stammering.

Meanwhile Vanessa's father and Richard continued to look for Vanessa everywhere in the city and they only stopped searching when the sun was about to rise. They came back to the castle and saw Vanessa coming from the garden entering the door that leads into the ballroom and was about to go up the stairs to her room. "Young lady, where do you think you are going like that ?" said her father with a loud voice.
