Lies And Liars

The couple walked down the beach together hand in hand. They caught enough crabs to cook later, and now they were enjoying the sunshine for a time before returning to their cave. They were quiet, listening to the sound of the wind and the ocean and the gulls overhead.

Mason held Ilona's hand and walked with her, but he couldn't relax.

She was lying. He knew she was lying. He could see it in her eyes the moment it started. She may be able to fool others, but she couldn't fool him. He knew her too well. He knew her heart.

What he didn't know, was what she was lying to him about, and why.

Mason looked down at Ilona walking beside him. His eyes drifted over her lush, rosy lips and up to her golden flecked eyes under long black lashes. A piece of hair blew across her face, and she reached up to brush it away.

She looked calm and relaxed now, nothing like how she had looked earlier.
