His End

Mason watched as the enormous dragon dove towards him, huge, sharp teeth flashing.  His heart was racing, and he knew this would be his end.

It was as if time slowed for him.  His eyes were on the dragon's terrifying mouth, but his mind was far away.  Images of Ilona flashed before him.  He pictured her laughing as he teased her, holding tight to him as he shared her bed, raising her swords fearlessly as she prepared for a fight.  He pictured her beautiful flowing hair and chocolate eyes with their hidden golden flecks.  She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, and she was his.

He wished he could tell her he was sorry.  He was sorry he hadn't listened to her, and he had insisted on fighting the dragons.  He was sorry they had been the end of him.  He was sorry he would never hold her in his arms and kiss her again and tell her just how much he loved her.
