The Fall

Ilona would never remember if she screamed while they fell. She would never remember if Mason did, either. It was as if she left her body somehow and this disastrous thing was happening to someone else. Except she knew she couldn't have left her body because she could still feel her heart in her throat and her extremities tingling. Plus, her stomach was causing her much too much pain for her to have been parted from it.

The whole thing passed so fast she could barely register it was happening. One moment she was standing on the cliff next to Mason, and the next, he had her wrapped in her arms and they were falling as the dragon's mouth snapped shut right behind them.
