Chapter 8

There is half an hour left until Seb's brother arrives. I have already left Miracle with Rina. She hasn't changed at all. She is still as pretty as always with her blonde pixie bob cut and green eyes. She has always been the popular one from the three of us after Seb.

"I'm home." Seb calls as he enters. My eyes light up as I bounce over to him.

"I've already cooked for you." I say with a smile.

He stops and stares at me before ruffling my hair, "Thanks. You're like a housewife." He laughs before heading to his room.

"Like hell I would want to be your wife." I mutter. But my face is warm.

"So where is Miracle?" Seb asks after he has changed out of his police uniform.

I grin as I dish out some rice for him. "Are you missing him? I thought you were annoyed by the baby but in fact, you've fallen for his cuteness haven't you?"

"No, I'm just making sure he isn't here for my brother to misunderstand things." He mutters, placing a spoonful of rice into his mouth.

"Don't worry, your brother would never believe we slept together even if we did." I laugh.

Seb's eyes widen and he chokes. Did my words startle him that much? I quickly hand him the glass of water and pat his back.

"Y-You shouldn't say some things." Seb says once he has recovered.

"I'm only saying the truth." I shrug. "Maybe I should invite Jason in case there is a misunderstanding about us living together."

The loud clanging sound of the spoon makes me glance back at Seb. His hand is empty and the spoon is on the floor. I sigh and pick it up before washing it. Seb is getting more clumsy nowadays.

"Why do you seem so interested in Jason?" Seb asks, chewing his food slowly.

"Because I am." I smile. Jason is such a nice person. If I had to marry someone, he matches my standards perfectly. "Maybe, I should take the first step? Or should I wait for him? I'm going to see him tomorrow."

Seb frowns, "You don't even know him properly and you want to date him?"

"Why? Do you have an issue?" I ask, crossing my arms.

"N-no, of course not. He's a friend from university and I know him pretty well so you should be careful around him Eva."

My eyes light up as I stare at Seb, "You're friends? That's great. Tell me all about him." I say excitedly.

"He is actually a year younger than us."

"Who cares about a year difference nowadays? It's the trend." I say.

"Why are you seeing him tomorrow?" Seb seems pretty curious all of a sudden.

"To return his jacket." I say honestly.

"What an excuse." He mutters.

I roll my eyes and hide the remaining evidence of Miracle. I put the milk powder boxes, milk bottle, toys and baby clothes inside the wardrobe in my room. Sam wouldn't come in here so it should be safe.

Finally, I flop onto the sofa. I've been rushing around since I dropped off Miracle at Rina's and my feet hurt now. I slide off my socks and use one foot to massage the other.

"Eva, aren't–"

The doorbell and loud knocking interrupts and we exchange a glance before I stand up and walk slowly towards the front door.

It has been awhile since I saw Samuel Eccles. I briefly attended his wedding two years ago but then I became busy.

The familiar blue eyes and jet black hair meet me when I open the door. I don't know if Seb has told him I am living here yet. Beside him is a beautiful blonde haired woman with a small baby in her arms. I've met her as his girlfriend in the past but now she is his wife.

I grin and invite them inside, "Come in Sam, Rose. It's been too long. How are you? I can't believe you already have a baby."

Sam laughs and stares at me with narrowed eyes, "Since when have you been the owner of this house? Don't tell me you and Seb got married without telling anyone."

I almost choke on air at his words and I hear the same splitter from Seb as he stands up and calls us over to the sofa.

"No way José! I have high standards." I say, sticking my chin in the air.

Rose chuckles, "As you should Eva. Why settle for less when you can have more right?"

I laugh and gesture to Sam, "Don't forget you're married to his brother."

She grins and pulls me down to sit next to her, the baby on her lap. "Ah right. And I also have little George here."

Smiling at the blue eyed, blonde haired baby, I hold out a finger which he curls his tiny hand around. "He is adorable. He looks more like you than his dad."

"Really? Everyone has said he looks more like Sam." She says.

"Anyway, how come you're here Eva? Your mother has been complaining about you not getting married." Sam says. His eyes travel to Seb before he glances back at me, "Why don't you two just get married? Seb needs to settle down and be serious and you need a partner. It's perfect!"

Both Seb and I groan simultaneously. If we marry, wouldn't our friendship crumble and become dust? We each have different ideas about our ideal partners anyway. There is no way we could marry.

"Did he say something wrong?" Rose asks.

"Seb is a big player, I need someone serious and gentlemanly." I say.

"What part of Eva is a woman? I only date women bro." Seb says. The fact that he sounds a hundred percent serious stings a little. What a friend!

Rose seems to notice something in my expression as she silently squeezes my hand. I smile at her in reassurance. I've heard worse from him but why did it hurt this time. I can usually take it as a light hearted joke.

"Is it alright for us to stay over?" Sam asks. "We plan to return tomorrow evening."

Sam and Rose live three hours away and it will be late if they return. However, we only have two bedrooms. I bite my lip anxiously. Where will I sleep if I give up my room?

My eyes widen. What about Miracle? Will Rina be okay? I quickly stand up.

"I need to make a call." I explain and head to my room. Dialing her number, she immediately picks up. "Rina, I'm sorry to bother you more but since this is an emergency, would you be okay to keep Miracle overnight? I've given you enough nappies and milk formula which should last until tomorrow."

"What exactly is going on Eva?" She asks curiously.

"Let's just say it's a family emergency at the moment. I'll explain everything another time."

Returning to the sitting room, I smile at Rose. Is George hungry? He is chewing his lip. Miracle does the same sometimes.

"Is he hungry? I can warm some water for you for the milk." I say.

Both Sam and Rose give me an odd stare. "How did you know he was hungry Eva? I didn't notice you were so good at understanding babies." Sam says.

Damn. I screwed up. "Uh, I've spoken to some mothers before about their babies." I lie, "My mum wants me to know everything before I have my own."

"Oh, is that why?" Rose smiles and stands up with George, "I usually breastfeed him. Is it okay for me to go into one of the rooms?"

I forgot that normal mothers breastfeed their babies. I've become so accustomed to bottle-feeding Miracle.

"Sure." I show her to my room and leave her.

The two brothers are watching some show on the television. I grab the remote and sit next to Seb.

"Have you eaten Sam? I made extra food earlier so if you're hungry, feel free to help yourself." I say, leaning my head against Seb as I sit sideways with my back against his side.

Sam laughs, "You sound like a housewife. I'll eat with Rose once she's done." He shakes his head as Seb flicks my forehead with his fingers. "You two are still acting like kids. When will you grow up?"

It's hard to keep my mouth shut but I will myself to do so. I can't spill anything about Miracle. He made me become more responsible and mature contrary to how I am currently acting.

"I don't want to be a boring old person like you." I say, sticking my tongue out at him.

Seb chuckles, "Eva and I will take our time becoming hags together."

"How can I get anything into your heads?" Sam rolls his eyes.
