Chapter 17

"My baby."

Both Gran and I turn in surprise to see Seb standing in the doorway of the room, his dark hair swept aside and his light brown eyes glancing around.

I thought he was really busy at work? Why has he come so quickly? And why the hell did he say Miracle is his? I want to facepalm myself. This misunderstanding is going to grow bigger.

"Gran, you never told me you were coming. I could have stayed home for you." Seb smiles and sits beside her on the sofa.

"Don't change the subject Sebastian." She narrows her eyes at him, "Eva's mother told me you two are a couple but she never told me about the baby. Did she miss it out on purpose to surprise me?"

Seb exchanges a subtle glance with me and I slowly shake my head.

"Maybe." Seb says slowly. "But Gran, could you not talk about Miracle to her or anyone else? Not until we are ready to tell everyone. Please Gran?"

Gran frowns, "Why not? Eva's mother is probably happy about her grandchild and I am pleased with this great grandchild too. He really has his mother's eyes."

I bite my lip. It's true that Miracle has a similar eye shade to mine but we don't look alike at all which is to be expected. I would freak out if someone else's baby looked like me when I had no part in creating it.

"Gran, why don't I drive you home? It'll be dark soon and it won't be safe for you." Seb says gently.

"I wanted to play with Miracle a little more." She pouts before turning to me, "I'll come back again another time dear."

I nod and smile, "Take care Gran." I am relieved that she is listening to Seb's suggestion. It's a good thing he came home but why is he willingly lying for me? He was the one who wanted nothing to do with Miracle in the beginning.

I wave them off, holding Miracle as Seb drives her home. Returning inside, I sigh in relief and relax onto the sofa. That was one disaster avoided.

"...even in the wilderness of the mountains and oceans, my heart will still find you, only you..."

The ringtone is a familiar sappy love song which Seb and I used to sing for a laugh back in our highschool days. I frown. It's not my mobile phone. Did Seb forget to take his?

"Hello?" I ask, picking it up.

"Who are you? Where's Seb?" A nasally female voice asks from the other side.

"Who are you?" I ask back. She is probably one of his women. Is he still playing around? I thought Carol said everyone knew he has a wife and baby.

"Bitch, answer me first! Why are you answering Seb's phone?! He said he never lets anyone touch it. Who are you? Are you a thief? Did you steal his phone?! I'll report you right now."

Is this woman crazy? She just assumed everything herself, not even asking me to confirm anything.

"He really likes to pick up the crazy ones." I mumble to myself, shaking my head.

"What?! How dare you? You just called me crazy didn't you? You wench! Wait until I find out who you are. Seb will definitely get you arrested for stealing his phone." She screams down the line. I wince at her loudness.

"Go ahead Madam." I retort, "Shouldn't you be worrying about how your face is made from such a thick layer of concrete that you are going after a man with a wife?"

I hear a loud scream and grin, placing the phone onto the table. She can have a full blown tantrum but that doesn't mean I have to listen to it.

After a while, his screen goes blank and I sigh. Why is he still messing with other women when he is acting as my boyfriend? Not that I care but if anyone sees, they will definitely doubt our relationship.

Hearing the key in the front door, I adjust myself and busy myself with talking to Miracle. Seb steps inside and walks to the coffee table where his mobile is.

"I forgot it. Did anyone call?" He asks, picking it up.

"Well, just one woman." I admit.

He scrolls through his phone and when he looks up, his brown eyes are frightening as he glares at me.

"Did you answer the call?" His voice is loud.

"Well, the thing is–"

"Tell me, yes or no, did you answer?!" He thunders again.

I nod guiltily. "I did. Why? I wasn't supposed to?"

"Don't you have any morals Eva?! First you pick a fight with Carol and now you're even answering my private calls?!" His face is scarlet with anger as he shouts. I have never seen him this angry.

"Carol?" I ask. Don't tell me she tattled on me about the cafe? But that was clearly her fault. She provoked me first.

"Stop acting innocent Eva. You even poured a glass of champagne on her." He says accusingly.

I gape in disbelief. Of course Carol would leave out that she poured water over me. "You believe her? I don't know what she told you but she's at fault too."

"Eva, why are you turning into someone like this? I never thought you could be so horrible."

He isn't drunk, he is just angry. But why does he not trust me? The hot tears of anger leak out of my eyes and I pick Miracle up and walk out of the house. I won't stand being accused like this. Does he really think I am the bad guy here? If so, why did he help me earlier with his Gran?

We have had arguments and fights in the past but it was never about others. He would never believe others over me in the past. What changed? Is it because I ruined his player lifestyle? Is that why he is angry?

"Eva!"

I sigh and smile in relief when I see Jason running towards me. I called him when I left the house. I don't know where I should go with Miracle.

"What happened? Who hurt you?" He asks worriedly.

I shake my head. "It's nothing. I got emotional over a tiny matter." I force a smile, "I need somewhere to stay with Miracle for a while until everything has calmed down."

Jason sighs, "I know you don't want to talk about it but I'm always ready to listen Eva. For now, you can stay with me."

My eyes widen. I wasn't expecting him to offer his own place. "Um, I don't think it would be a good idea." I say slowly, "A man and woman alone together..."

"Haven't you been staying with Seb?" He asks with a confused expression.

Touché.

"He's a friend so it's different." I mumble, looking away from him.

"Aren't I a friend too? Or is it only me who thinks so?" He says quietly.

Hurriedly shaking my head, I clarify, "I didn't mean it like that. Of course, we're friends."

"Then what's the issue?"

The issue is that I think I don't like you as just a friend. Is what I want to say.

"Hmm, fine then. I'll stay with you." I give in. I have no choice, I have to think about Miracle.

Jason grins and wraps an arm around my shoulders, "Let's go."

I smile, "Sure."
