CHAPTER 4

Quetsiya took a deep breath, closed her eyes and started the story...

*silence*

Quetsiya opened her mouth but all of a sudden her shoulders went stiff and she was tongue tied. It almost felt like her brain was freezing. Ayesha looked at her caretaker carefully not fully understanding what was going on. Almost immediately, Quetsiya took Ayi by her shoulders and stared into her eyes. Her eyes wide with fear.

" What is it?!" Ayesha was getting nervous.

"I... cannot remember.... beyond yesterday! I can't seem to recall anything...I...I am so confused..I don't know what..I am sorry.. " Quetsiya kept mumbling to herself and walked away from Roohi.

.....

The sisters sat by the staircase in silence. Ayesha had tried consoling Quetsiya but she seemed to be out of it.

Ayesha turned to the woman beside her and asked her gently;

" Can you tell me what you remember? You said you remember what happened yesterday, mind telling me what happened?"

Quetsiya rubbed her throbbing forehead and nodded.

" I remember there was a fight yesterday. Between you and our parents. Come to think of it, it was very stressful. They had arranged number of suitors but you rejected them all. You said you will not marry until you feel like it. Father was very angry with you and he forbid you to step outside. He said he was ashamed and left for his quarters. Mother was also very upset. She has not stepped out of her room since the incident. "

Ayesha frowned upon the revelation.

" Quetsiya, are you married? "

" Yes...yes I think so yeah.."

Quetsiya's voice trailed off shocked at how vague her life seemed.

The information didn't provide much scope for Ayi for now she was more confused than ever. Either she was having a very vivid acid trip or this was 'real' . Nothing made proper sense. Quetsiya, for instance doesn't remember her own story. She didn't know what she was doing here. Almost like she was programmed to remember the specific event but nothing else. Everything seemed out of order.

Ayesha stood up and looked down at her "sister".

" Can we go see our mother then? Perhaps she'll have some insight. "
