Quetsiya led Ayesha down the stairs towards the bathroom. Ayi got inside and washed her face to clear the exhaustion. Quetsiya watched her sister and could not shake the feeling of dread she felt inside. Why didn't her sister remember her or even her name? why was she saying she was on the streets when she clearly never left? All the questions were going off at once.
After Ayi washed up, Quetsiya took her directly to the kitchen. The kitchen was situated downstairs with a busy load of women working on the afternoon meal. They all stopped their work when they saw the two princesses entering the room. One of the them bought them two chairs to sit in the corner. Ayesha was dumbstruck at the hospitality. She never expected that she would be treated this way. The more and more happened the more and more curious she became. There has to be a mistake. Now that she thought of it, Ayesha couldn't remember her past. At least the entirety of it. She knew that her name was not Roohi. She remembers that she was never there in the palace until this very day. She knew that her mother was dead when she was young. But the specifities including where she was living or who she was with, who her family was or how they looked like, nothing seemed to click in her head.
The maids folded their hands and stood at their work stations awaiting for orders. Quetsiya spoke first.
" Is lunch ready? "
" yes ma'am. We were on our way to serve to your Majesty and the Queen. Would you like your lunch here your Highness? "
" Yes please. My sister will have her lunch right away. "
" Okay ma'am."
The maids hurried along to bring the food to the table. They apologized for the mess as they didn't expect the princesses to come down to eat. Ayesha was lost in thoughts but quickly came back to senses when she saw the food. The ceramic bowl contained chicken broth and some baked beans along with it. Ayi couldn't contain herself anymore and dived into her meal.
...
After finishing the food, Ayi let out a loud burp. Quetsiya rolled her eyes at her sister. Ayi saw the giggles among the maids but she didn't care. She got up and thanked them for the beautiful meal and left with Quetsiya catching up beside her.
As they exited the room, Ayi came across the corridor of the palace. She stopped and took a moment to stare outside the palace gates. Quetsiya stood right beside her and looked at her sister.
" Do you still not recall anything? "
Ayesha sighed and shook her head.
Quetsiya didnt know what to do. Her sister had caused major issues in the family yesterday and now she says she doesn't remember who she is. She could no longer recognize the person who she loved and took care of like her own daughter. The thought brought faint tears to her eyes. Her thoughts were interrupted when Ayesha asked her:
" What is my past Quetsiya? Can you tell me everything about Roohi? "
Quetsiya took a deep breath and began the story...
