Chapter Eight

"Now this is weird" I enter Jenna's house through the kitchen door, Lucy right at my back.

"I know right" Lucy says and grab a bag of chips.

"Whatever Jenna planned, I think it is for aging Americans" We actually went to Jenna's house after leaving the cinema, only to get here and realize that it was a beer party that Andrew actually planned.

"Andrew is an asshole" Lucy grumbles.

"Noted" I grin sheepishly at her and she gives me a look like she knows I am about to do something that wouldn't be funny at all. I snatch the tortilla chips right out of her hand and make a beeline to Josie's now deserted room, Lucy hot on my trail uttering profanities.

"Here here! have your chips" I throw it right in the middle of her face and she tackles me as we both flop on the bed. we both crack up laughing hard.

"I don't think I have laughed this hard this year" I say trying to calm my racing heart.

"me too" Lucy gets up from the bed and walks up to the vanity table where Jo's diary lies.

"I don't think I have ever held this diary up close before without Jo snatching it away" She says and sits next to me. I sit up and snatch it from her hand "well now I am snatching it from your hand in place of Jo" she glares playfully and takes it back. She opens it and rests her head on the headboard reading silently to her self while I stare at nothing in particular.

"Oohhh" Lucy coos making me open my eyes. We are still lying on Jo's bed. Lucy had been so engrossed in the diary, not saying a word since.

"What?" I question.

"This page is about Nate"

"And?"

"Don't tell me you forgot already, it's something you of all people should remember"

"What happened to Nate?"

"When Jo told us she liked Nate and..." I cut her off

"Yeah. I remember and I seriously don't want to remember that"

"Ohhh... because of what happened afterwards" she winks at me. Well that week was one hell of a week.

Two years ago

It was sophomore year, weeks before I started dating Jake. Lucy and I were in the library. We had an assignment to cover so we didn't join Jo at the cafeteria for lunch.

"We thought you were at the cafeteria" Lucy directed her question to Jo who was approaching us.

"Yes but I really need to tell you guys something" Jo said and sits down on the other side of Lucy.

"well I think I should excuse you guys right?" Jo's cousin who was a Junior asked.

"No. This also concerns you of course" Jo pushed her back down.

"Okay so what do you need to say?"I ask getting impatient. I was preparing for a chemistry test before she interrupted.

"Well the thing is I think Nate likes me" she says.

"So that's it?" Amanda her cousin asked.

"Isn't it big of a deal?" Jo asked completely serious making me scoff "what makes you think he likes you?" I asked her.

"Well apart from the fact that we've been partners in Biology since the beginning of the school year, we also kicked it off real well this summer"

"That doesn't mean he likes you" Lucy said chewing on a carrot.

"Lucinda you know you are not allowed to eat in here" I scolded her but she just rolled her eyes.

"well he would have asked me out on a date if Henry didn't interrupt"

"Who is Henry?" Amanda asked

"His bestfriend" Jo replied.

"Did he tell you that?" I asked her. She gave me an expression that says 'girl you are dumb'

"Dude, it's obvious they are bestfriends. They move together all the time"

"Okay" I raised up my hands to show surrender.

"And I love him" she announced with a huge smile on her face.

"Love?" Amanda asked.

"You don't even know this guy" Lucy stated biting a big chunk of steak. How did she sneak all those into the library?.

"I just told you guys that we sit together during Biology and talk for the whole time besides, we literally spent most of summer together"

"I beg to differ. We were together all summer Jo" I told her. Her face flushed crimson red.

"Well that's true but still we've got a connection. I can feel it"

"Since when did you start this love stuff?" I asked raising an eyebrow.

"Since Nate of course"

"Are you really sure you love him?" I asked just to confirm before I burst the big bad bubble.

"Yes. I have never felt this way about anyone before"

"I hate to break it to you but promise you won't overreact" I said. She gave me a curious look wondering what I was going to say.

"I swear on your Granny's grave not to overreact"

"Watch it bitch. Don't you dare swear on my grandmother's grave" I warned her.

"You do that also" she backfired.

"That's because she's my grandmother not yours" I explained.

"Can you guys please stop arguing about old Josette and let the old lady rest peacefully" it was Lucy's time to scold.

"Fine. Anyway Jo, you can't develop feelings for Nate" I advised.

"Why?"

"Because he's gay" I finally let it out. it was the truth, Nate is gay but nobody knows that. Well yet.

"shut up!" Jo exclaimed definitely not trusting me.

" I am dead serious Jo. Henry is his boyfriend and not his bestfriend" I explained.

"I thought as much. Everyone knows Henry is bisexual, so it wouldn't be news if Nate is gay"Lucy chirped in. Jo's face fell.

"I can't believe he did this to me. Why didn't he tell me?" She whined genuinely sad.

"Because he didn't know about your feelings" Amanda patted her hair.

"He knows. I mean he gives me the goo- goo eyes"

"No he doesn't. I guess he sees you as his straight bestfriend" I told her. She stood up grabbing her bag and matching away in anger.

"Where do you think she is going to?" Amanda asked.

"I don't know" Lucy shrugged opening another bag of food.

"I think we should follow her before she does anything drastic" I suggested and we packed up our books running out after her.

"I don't understand what you are trying to say Jo" Nate said to Jo. They were in the middle of the cafeteria with everyone eyes on them including Amanda,Lucy and I.

"You led me on to believe you actually liked me when in actual fact, you are gay" Jo said and the whole student gasped. fuck. Jo turned around realizing she had just revealed Nate sexuality to the whole school when he wasn't even ready to come out. His face paled "I am not gay. I have no idea what she is saying" Nate told everyone. Nobody was ready to believe it wasn't true but even at that Henry was disappointed that Nate didn't admit it so he walked out of the cafeteria.

"I can't believe you Jo" Nate said to Jo ignoring everyone's whisper. Jo tried to apologise but he just walked away and stopped where I stood at the cafeteria door "I can't just believe you would do this. you promised not to tell anyone but you ended up telling Jo and now the whole school knows" He said and turned away before I could apologize.

"You promised not to overreact but that's exactly what you did" I say as Lucy , Amanda and I walked up to Where Jo stood.

"Well as for you Jo, you've ruined your chances with Nate and now those LGBT lovers would come for you. Tatiana lay low and Amanda and I would just leave" Lucy said and dragged Amanda away.

"See what you've done" I blamed Jo

"I said I was sorry"

"It's not even like you actually like him. you just want him for those casual fuck of yours" I said and it was until the whole cafeteria gasped that I realized that was harsh and that they heard what I just said.

"Are you calling me a slut?"she asked.

"Your words not mine"I told her.

"Well if you weren't such a virgin, you would know how nice it is to be banged" Did she just indirectly tell the whole school I am a virgin? Not like it wasn't true but why here. She realized what she had said and tried to reach out but I shook my head "To be honest bitch, being a virgin is better than being a fucking whore" and with that the cafeteria went boom and I ran out of there. At least I got the last word and we all knew there was an unspoken rule that whosoever said the last comeback wins. But that was certainly not what was on my mind. I needed to fix things with Nate and clear the air before a bet on my virginity starts. Trust highschool guys to be so stupid.

I decided to skip school for the whole day and head home. Mom was making brownies when I got home and I lied to her I wasn't feeling so well and would really love to be alone.

It was 4pm in the evening when Lucy and Amanda opened the door of my room and I was not expecting to see Jo with them

"What's this bitch doing here?"

" I am only here for our project" she said. Why do we have to have it due in two days time. fuck you Mr Callaghan.

"I would rather have a D on my papers than have you sit in my room" I told her.

"suit yourself then" she turned and walked out. Let's make up already. I already miss her.

"You guys really need to figure that out" Lucy said grabbing a candy from my night stand.

"Anyway we've got a plan" Amanda informed me.

"what plan?"

"To stop everyone one from believing what went down at the cafeteria today" I was utterly and totally confused. if she was talking about clearing the air about me being a virgin and Nate being gay, then she definitely have her head up her ass.
